Watching this for the first time and it's actually really funny and charming. I thought it'd be like the Mario Bros Show where it's only funny because it's so cheap-looking, but nah, it's got a lot of good comedic moments.

Remember checking the IMDB of the guys who worked on the Mario cartoons, The Mario board artists were usually born around the 1930s-1950s who worked on shit like Rainbow Brite or Kissyfur while the guys who worked AOSTH also worked on Ren & Stimpy and Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat, There weren't really any wacky cartoonists working on the Mario cartoons
