Murderanon is taking today and tomorrow off for some inexplicable reason so Enmanon will be filling in for today with a short filler storytime. Previously, on It's Always Sunny in Jigoku: >>153062764
First up, Usagi's Ark.
>Nobody's thereWho gives a fuck about that Ninja Turtles reject?
>>153076675>I was caught up at work and in traffic.I get it Enma, souls to judge and the massive amounts of random killers on the road to meifumado are a bitch and a half.
>>153076684Sweet merciful Buddha, behave yourself or you will get a taste of my geta.
This is now a Turtle Thread.Remember who beat the rabbit? That's right: TURTLES!!!
>>153076695>You are too cowardly to fight me one by one!Imagine a time when Usagi was struggling against multiple opponents.
>>153076728Nice space kitty
>>153076741Kitty's kittys!
>>153076695I love it when they just make Yojimbo his actual name. >>153076709>Oriental MisfitI do appreciate the use of Japanese characters to show the language barrier. Anyone know what the fuck he's saying thereOh boy we getting spicy right off the bat
>>153076728>Bottom panelHey I heard about stepping on peoples lines but this is ridiculous.
Usagi's Ark was first published in May 1990 in Issue #22 of Usagi Yojimbo v1 (Fantagraphics). The Usagi standalone story in this issue was Blood Wings pt. 2.
Next up: Usagi Yojimbo meets Panda Khan
Usagi Yojimbo Meets Panda Khan was originally part of UY v1 (Fantagraphics) #34, the issue with Gen pt. 1 (Lady Asano's Story). Panda Khan appeared earlier in UY v1 #21, the issue with Blood Wings pt. 1 that immediately preceded his cross-over story with Space Ark.Even though Panda KHAN's name doesn't really suggest it, I think PK is supposed to be ethnically Chinese. Could this be the mysterious Chinese person that Stan hinted at in his Letters To Stan column?
Next up, Usagi's last issue published at Fantagraphics. I won't be posting the whole thing, just one story in particular.
Those anons with a sensitivity to artistic license and eye colors are advised to take necessary precautions.
>>153076682>samurai sword <mint>ror, rmao
>>153077011>We have to PAY you!? YAAAAAAAAA*runs away*
Ocho looks like a gender-bent Hikiji
The Usagi Yojimbo Color Special(s) were three issues long. Besides this recolored earlier issue, the Color Specials also included Tomoe's Story, The Doors, and Fox Fire: all three of these stories were re-illustrated and somewhat re-written by Stan when he moved to Dark Horse. Besides these Usagi Yojimbo stories, there was also a standalone Space Usagi story, "Under the Same Sky." All four of these stories will be storytimed eventually as part of our annual.
Now for something more recent: Stan's contribution to Comics For Ukraine.
Anon was kind enough to share pictures of this story from the paper copy he had purchased before we had a proper scan. This spread has been resized 40% to allow it to fit within the 4mb file size limit.
You can see his dumb little himbo braincell working overtime to try and piece it all together.>War...is....le bad???
That's it today from old mate Enmanon. This one page comic is from SDCC 25. Editfag (more liek REDDITFAG trolololololo) had a story he was planning on sharing too.
>>153077200Thanks Enma!My story won't be a long one, but it's set a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

>>153077236
>>153077253
>>153076661Does anyone else have internal voices they read the character's lines in? I struggle to find a good one for Usagi. I think somewhere between the 03-12 TMNT voices fits best for him. Yet when he talks about honor, he turns into Lo Wang. https://youtu.be/phitdexy3YI?si=n9WaeXca1ytphMR2

>>153076682Nothing against Mr. Fields but seeing Stan's Art with someone else's lettering feels off.
>>153077294
>>153077310>jobs to ROCKSHah, classic Stan. Truly there is no escaping Feudal Japan no matter what media franchise you're in.
>>153076709>Who za fakku are you carring orientaru?
>>153077310Urchins was first published in Star wars Tales #14 on December 11th 2002, with Tom Luth as colorist and Stan handling pretty much everything else. That was all for tonight folks, thanks for reading.
For the anon who was surprised Jeff Smith was a Stan Fan."Hey, Usagi FREAKS" still hits after all these years.
>>153076945>"You're my guest, go ahead.">"You are a most gracious host."Hehehe.It would be funny if Usagi and Panda Khan did tea ceremony together while Tomoe is sitting on a cushion watching.Hehehehe Right, Usagi-freaks? Right?
I can do one more mini-storytime today. The Art Of Usagi Yojimbo, Volume 2 (Radio Comix, 1998). Not to be confused with the bigly Art Of Usagi Yojimbo (Dark Horse, 2006) murderanon storytimes every year, which is large enough to warrant its own thread.
I don't know where to find Volume One.
Some of these pages, like this one, gets reprinted in the bigger Art Of Usagi Yojimbo 2006 collection, but some are unique to this edition.
>the ol' Sanjuro Special
>Hebi was always in the cards
>early, much more elaborate clan mon
>>153077591You gonna "acthually" any of these claims, Enma?
>>153077591That little toony Usagi in the last panel is great!
>>153077679What do you mean? He spitting facts here.Source: Sakai, Stan. "Usagi Yojimbo," 1985.
>>153077713Stuff like only Hatamoto being expected to be loyal to death to their lords (lesser samurai could leave their lord and seek employment under a different lord),Or how bushido didn't used to exist until 1800s, with its origins lying partially in older codes of conduct samurai would subscribe to, but just like chivalry, got romantisized and flanderised to hell and back.
>>153077753But you've just hit all the main points. The circle is complete. The student has become the master. I can teach you no more

>>153076908>>153076828It's kind of a jumpscare seeing him with a rabbits skull structure after so long of him having a a perfectly round steamed dumpling as a dome
>>153077862What an awesome channel. Thanks for sharing this with us. Thanks to you, Nakamura Koji aka Bushido Hombre has an authentic Feudal Japan period appropriate theme song now.https://youtu.be/24JTCu1E1Zk

>>153071019>he ignored itFujiwara no Hidesato was like the anti-meddler. No matter what, he wasn't getting involved.
Page 31 (here: >>153077937) is VERY interesting. Will need to investigate further.
>>153077026Between thet and Hebi, I wonder if that wasn't foreshadowing. Like if at their oriignal big showdown, Hiki would turn into some Sci-Fi Nué-looking Alien.
End the Art of UY, Vol 2. I can't think of anything else to post that won't be covered in one of murderanon's storytimes.
>>153078237Thanks for storytiming Enma, guess we'll be taking tomorrow off.Until then, HEHEHEHEHE

>>153077124Good bye, Uncooked Hot Dog Colored horse. Rest in Power.
>>153077169>As for us, we can only lose.Pretty sure that's anwuote from Seven Samurai, when Kanbei and another samurai were ruminating over their comrades graves. Though it might have been somethig a villager said too, Kurosawa was all about those "War sucks, man." Vibes.

>>153077979>page 34>>153077985>page 36Seems to be missing a page
>>153077840Cute rabbit !
>>153077026It just occured to me that Stan's drawn her very much like an Osamu Tezuka character, and Tezuka's ladies were always turning into snakes and cats and things.
>>153077985>>153077999>>153078034really digging the more fantastical stuff here
>>153078255Might be just me, but does UsaJei seem a bit Evil Ernie-ish?
>>153078410And yeah, Stan says in >>153078195 that page 35 was another beach scene, with an homage to Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji
>>153078474>>153078410I have the Hokusai beach photo somewhere if someone doesn't post it first.
>>153078442>and Tezuka's ladies were always turning into snakes and cats and things.Truly a man after my own heart!
>>153078410It is indeed missing, and it wasn't in the collection I'm pulling this from. I think it's this picture, though.
>>153077200Usagi why would you fight your old friend?

>>153077200Thanks Enma
>>153077510I have Volume 1, but it will take some time to process. If this thread lives long enough, I can post it
>>153079584The yearly storytime continues to give. Since tomorrow is a free day, we don't have anything topical to eat up post count, I'm sure there's enough time to get it all posted.
>>153077884Is this a rejected page from Kaiso?
>>153079813Yes. See the notes here: >>153078195>unused page from "Kaiso." Though it was a good joke, it came down to a matter of space and I decided I could not afford to devote a whole page to the geta-stilts gag.
>>153078894I'll clarify a little bit on the conditions under which I add to the totals.>is it part of the storytime?>is it from a distinct/identifiable UY publication?>did Stan draw it?If all three get hit, I'll add to the count. As to this thread (which will clarify further):>Usagi's ArkStan contributed the Usagi parts, so it definitely counts.>Usagi Meets Panda KhanStan didn't draw it, I don't count it either for Usagis or Panels. For the same reason, I ignored the backup story from an earlier storytime about the giant tokage.>UrchinsIgnored totally as I will 47 Ronin when we get to it.>To The VictorsDefinitely counts>Meets GodzillaDefinitely counts>Color Special/Art OfIMO the duplicate pages are transformative enough to be their own thing, so I counted them. Art pages that can be traced to a specific book, I also count; I would these random one-offs as well, like >>153079238 lovely Tomoe, if we could trace them to a specific publication. And I'll update the count for Art of V1, thanks to this lovely anon >>153079584Since the Hokusai one was already posted, here's another Usagi swimsuit from the another beach special.
Good news, I found someone selling the special edition on eBay for a not horribly bad price. I'm able to finally get a hard copy of these comics!
>>153077011I'd also be scared if a human suddenly appeared. That ain't natural.
>>153079997Hooray!
>>153079887>I would these random one-offs as well, like >>153079238 lovely Tomoe, if we could trace them to a specific publicationI've been trying to find an ISBN-compliant source as well, but I think they are as you say, just one-offs. The explanation pages of the "Art of Usagi" posted above marks a lot of these single subject illustrations as either commissions or convention sketches, and Stan's personal website has a b/w portfolio page with this text:>These pieces located below are no longer for sale, but they are now preserved here to showcase some of the amazing original artwork that has been so masterfully created over the last 37 years.
