Genuinely, Oscar's character arc is probably the only thing that was done reasonably respectfully to the audience. He finds contentment with his life as a whale washer, came to a better understanding with his boss and Angie, etc. I think the end got accelerated very quickly but Oscar was good natured and never wanted to hurt anyone. Does that and the fact he learned his lesson make up for his dishonesty?
