What are your latest pick ups?
What have you been reading lately?

Is anyone else tempted by pic related? Expanded Swamp Thing omnibus set with more than the Bronze Age Omnibus, period appropriate paper and an Alan Moore Omnibus with original colours coming soon too?

no, never buy books this big in hardback
alot of the pages require you to nearly tear them out trying to read
>>
>>153080792
It is two volumes though in a slipcase and they aren't that big.
>>
>>153080805
600 pages is pretty fucking big, im guessing the 1135 is split int two books.
>>
>>153080648
Kingdom Come, Justice, The Dini/Ross books and New Frontier as well as trying to reread the 2000's DC stuff I missed back when I first started reading DC.
>>
>>153080828
600-800 pages is a good size for an omnibus to be honest and doesn't cause the problems you're stating. Approaching 1000 is where things really get retarded and the DC stuff that hit 1500 is awful.
>>
>>153080648
Pisses me off that you buy one omni and then they eventually just make something objectively better with more material just to spite you.
>>
>>153080939
i could be getting my numbers wrong. last omnibus i read was garth ennis hellblazer and i remember it being a fucking farce to read without tearing at some points.
i think thats like 700 pages but i could be completely wrong. could be 2000
>>
>>153080986
>garth ennis hellblazer
1352 pages
>could be 2000
Don't think there are any.

DC got retarded with the size of some omnis because they were so worried about people not buying whole series they decided to stuff things all together. Hence why we got Mike Grell Green Arrow in two volumes at 1512 and 1480 pages each rather than three volumes with like around 1000.

I personally find 600-800 pages to be pretty decent. 1000+ has issues.

>>
>>153081064
They're all 1000+ pages the compendiums but I don't mind them either.

I ran out of room on the shelf I put my trades so I put together a quick shelf in my basement for omnis and a couple of other things. Not pictured:
JLI Omni volume 1 (lending it out right now)
Amazing Spider-Man Omni volume 1 (reading it myself right now)

>Dini/Ross books
First time hearing about these. Are they any good? I'm a big fan of Dini's run on Detective Comics.
>>
>>153081261

BND up to and including Origin of the Species/Grim Hunt is an enjoyable read and is significantly better than the last half of JMS' run preceding it.
I also picked up O'Neil's run (pictured, it's the Epic Collection) because I liked his work on Batman and The Question and was underwhelmed by that as well. BND is overhated and not nearly as bad as Big Time or everything that would come after that.

I thought they were pretty good, I do recommend giving them a read for yourself though.

It is weird, I completely forgot about The Gauntlet and Grim Hunt yet I remember enjoying both of those at the time. Volume 3 coming out in June collecting all that.
>Amazing Spider-Man #612–647, Annual (2009) #37; Dark Reign: The List - Amazing Spider-Man; Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Black Cat (2010) #1-4; Many Loves of the Amazing Spider-Man; material from Web Of Spider-Man (vol. 2) #2-7, 12; Spider-Man: Origin of the Hunter; Spider-Man: Grim Hunt - The Kraven Saga
>>
Bought the 23rd volume Marvel Masterworks of Mighty Thor, because I wanted to read through Simonson's run again. I just wish I didn't find out that they stopped doing the Masterworks after the next volume.
>>
>>153081480
I have all of The Gauntlet as well as Grim Hunt/Origin of the Species in the original TPBs/Hardcovers so I probably won't be picking it up. I don't think the Web of Spiderman or Black Cat + Many Loves was in those trades though so I may try to read those online at some point.

Gauntlet is hit or miss in my opinion. Hits (Rhino, Mysterio, Vulture) are fantastic but some of the others (Electro, Sandman) are just 'okay'. There are very few issues during the BND era in general that I think are outright bad though which is why I'm such a BND apologist.

I'll check it out. Surprised that this was back in the late 90s and I hadn't heard of it before.

See, that can be true and all, but they're generally cheaper than trade hunting, and you're also getting something that's brand new without cum stains.

Listen, it's not a terrible idea for some series. Could you imagine having to pick up a 4th or even 5th omnibus for Geoff Johns' JSA? I'm pretty sure each current omni is around 1400 pages.

There was a thread here about a guy who got a lot of comics from a dead /co/nnoisseur and he storytimed Hulk 368 when the news the came out that Sam Keith died.

I stole that comic

Honestly, 150 dollar sticker price for these isn't that bad, a lot of the sticker prices for the Conan omnis I've been getting are 150 for just a single omni. And you should never actually pay that price, they're usually massively discounted.
>>
>>153081261
They're good, I especially like the Justice League story where they prevent the spread of an alien virus.

I haven't bought much this past month or will be anytime soon, gotta make more paper to buy more paper, but this is what I got
Picked up Lobo and Mieruko-chan at Barnes & Nobles. Saw that "Next Level" Lobo storytime thread and decided to pick up this book of his.
After finding out about the animated shorts, i ordered Tim Burton's book that inspired them
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpBGNxCoQnIhu55adhfskjU7eg3dHs-Pi
Going through Book-Off i saw these Hip Hop Family Tree knowing they're Ed Piskor's. As much as inspiration he is to me i didnt want to pick them up at first. Im not that huge into hiphop culture so i felt like i'd get lost but then after flipping through it and seeing
>I DEDICATE THIS TO YOU FOR BELIEVING IN ME.
my heart dropped and i bought both second hand. Poor guy he really didn't deserve the ending he got
Always happy to see a new /shelf/ thread

There's tons of comics I buy that are about things I have no interest in but that are worth reading simply because the creator's interest and skill make them into works of art that surpass the subject matter, (like all the sports manga I read about sports I'd never follow irl), Ed's Hip-Hop Family Tree Omnibus is one of the nicest books you can buy, really well put together. One can only imagine the things he'd have done with the rest of his career.
>>
>>153083527
Oh sweet, you got that artist edition, too? It the first one I've ever bought, so cool to look through.

>What are your latest pick ups?
Tomorrow is fleahmarket, so I will get new floppies by 1$ and maybe some TPB or hardcover for 5 or 8 $.
>What have you been reading lately?

Currently re-reading: Secret Six by Gail Simone and Nicola Scott 2010 urn

I read Flash with Bart Allen: quite average-mediocre. And Uncle Sam and Freedom Fighters (Acuña's run)
