Hell, if anything watching it felt like the animation was more elaborate and complex than in previous seasons.I'm gonna guess that what happened is that Saerom Animation (who animated Regular Show S1-S7, as well as Adventure Time and other 2010s CN shows) didn't work on this season and they had to go with a crappier animation studio.

>>153083881There actually are a couple expressive/naturally loose moments that don't come from shit vectors or fucking something up, but they're going to be very hit or miss. When Mordecai's punching himself there's a smear frame, which is akin to the type of inbetweens the old episodes have. But then compare to the luau cart scene where there's only one rigid head turn while he's singing, which makes him snap between keyframes, and you can already see it's going to be a rough inconsistent time. Instead of something more uniform and cohesive like the original hand drawn series, it's just going to be if there's a good animator trying a bit harder in a scene they're given. Not even a quick head turn is guaranteed a smooth loose movement (like what people want from these old designs, expecting animation like the old episodes with it) judging from these 2 shots.Mordecai in this scene was animated pretty well, for as far as this style goes. But most other scenes were fucking bad, even the silhouette shots of them off in the distance felt cruddy in motion despite being grey featureless blobs. What I'm predicting is any time a scene isn't demanding (which is a large portion of each episode) they will look like shit 90% of the time because they can just slap something together. Then if a scene does involve unique motion, it's gonna look like shit 80% of the time in some way outside of a few good efforts.

For as bad as a lot of these shots look, this promo would've probably worked better as the one they officially released at the con. It has some actual humor in it. "I'm sorry I forgot you were allergic to eggs Rigby" made me chuckle. "We gotta take this pazass to the da-dump to lu up down and around to luau town, luau, luau" did not. Them doing that shtick is usually fun but it's not "funny."

Surprised they come back after 10 years for a special occassion, continuing off after Pops died, and one of the episodes is just "mordecai and rigby want to find a place to nap." Not out of the ordinary at all but it feels like this should be the time to be doing more fun or out there concepts, not something on par with needing to fill up a seventh season after half a decade of producing the show nonstop.Is Pops really gonna find a lost tape and say "this was the time mordecai and rigby wanted to sleep, how wonderful"
