To play devil's advocate, RGB and Mr Puzzles both have a very distinct effect on their TV faces. Both of them have multicolored bars that represent their mouths and the colors are in the same order too. This goes beyond "inspiration".

Dumbass author, ignoring a lawyer's letters is like signing your own death warrant. See if they ignore a court summons, and if they do it's automatically in your favor.

They're the SMPTE bars. Standard test pattern for NTSC.

I'd focus on clothing and mannerisms instead, though I don't think there'd be much ground to it regardless: it seems plausible that looking up what kinda clothes people wore when tv was new and dressing you object-head donut steel the same way could happen independently.
and that's pretty much the only common thread to their clothing, barring the fact both wear a hat

I wouldn't mind seeing some youtube grifter taken down a notch, but I doubt that's happening without calling daddy 'tendo
>>
>>153085614
I thought the idea was stolen from Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Dolts.

>>153085614
Those are two very obviously different characters. Classy suit vs wacky clown, even down to how the tv is used to display the face. Hell, the left one has more resemblance to Tenna from Deltarune(who is himself a deliberate reference to another tv head character from a 2009 game) than the right one. These character are only superficially similar in that they have a TV head and use the SMPTE bars(but even then they use them differently).
Sounds like the artist is being a dumb bitch.

Eh, it's not *just* a guy in a suit with a TV head though, it's specifically that they both wear 1920s fashion, have almost identical looking TVs for heads, and both use the SMPTE bars for their mouths.

But the puzzle dude isn't 1920s, nor is he wearing a suit, he's a clown. The suspenders, the bowties, the poofy sleeves and slacks, oversized shoes, puzzle buttons, ect.
Also, I'm not a menswear expert, but iirc 1920s suits were more restrained in color, with straight slacks, not tapered. The cut of the jacket doesn't seem like a 1920s cut either, nor the popped shirt collar. I think the most 1920s thing about him is the two tone shoes.
They are not at all alike in terms of fashion.
>identical tvs
It's a very generic, old school tv. If you google "old tv" you'll see a bunch in the search results. Even then, it's not identical - puzzle's in taped and more cartoony, with a bent antenna to show he's WACKY. There's also other minor details, but it's really just old tv stuff.
>SMPTE bars
Not really an original thing, and really the only really arguable point.
>>153085614
>Dumbass author, ignoring a lawyer's letters is like signing your own death warrant. See if they ignore a court summons, and if they do it's automatically in your favor.
The lawyer probably wisely advised them that they were likely to lose in court. Similar characters predate TPoH(King TV Dinnah from Little King's Story) and other characters are much more visually similar(Tenna from Deltarune) but apparently get a pass. The only point of contention can really be the use of the SMPTE bars, which have been used by other characters as well(Tenna displays them as part of his death animation) and are thing associated with old TVs. It's really a big nothing burger being blown out of proportion by internet fuckos.

Is he getting hatemail from the fans because they think his creation is a ripoff of the YouTubers? Or is he getting hatemail because he's been trying to get the YouTuber to take that shit down? Show me a character that also uses it then

The main issue is that all of these elements on their own doesn't mean munch but they have a cumulative effect where it's hard to not argue he isn't a ripoff.

> someone is getting more attention than me and they're using one idea that's similar

Isn't this the person who got famous for drawing Donald Duck fancomics? They're great Donald Duck comics, no shade there. I'm more scratching my head because, like, why is it heartbreaking when a fraction of someone's idea looks like a fraction of yours, but when you're doing hundreds of pages of copy-pasting someone else's characters it doesn't break your heart?

>Spats, gloves, bowties, and suspenders are pretty 1920s
Again, they are more "clown" than 1920s, and the other guy isn't really specifically 1920s outside the shoes. The tapered slacks, the cut of the jacket, those are all modern.
>Same general shape, same dials
Like I said. Generic. A billion tvs had that same shape and layout - hell, my parents and grandparents had ones like that. and the details are different - the speaker holes are different, the vent placement, the large base on the one, puzzle's has extra buttons, the overall shape - they are reasonably enough different while still being old TVs.
>Show me a character that also uses it then

>(Tenna displays them as part of his death animation)
>The main issue is that all of these elements on their own doesn't mean munch but they have a cumulative effect where it's hard to not argue he isn't a ripoff.
No, it's not. The design of the characters is completely different, and the only similar points is the head. If you take the heads out of the equation they're nothing alike. A boating pleasure outfit and a clown getup are not the same by any means. Clown shoes are not oxfords - and those are not spats, by the way, spats sit on top of the shoe, while RGB's clearly are a part of the shoe(pic related). They don't even have similar color schemes. The vibes of the characters are completely different, with one being much more calm and the other overtly wacky.
It's ONLY the the SMPTE bars that's the same. A single element is not enough to build a lawsuit on, and be assured, lawyers would much more vigorously tear this down than I have. If Mr Puzzle didn't have them, no one would say a thing.
And again, other characters are more similar. Tenna doesn't have the SMPTE bars, but he is wearing a much more similar outfit(jacket with odd slacks). The habzin guy is also more similar, by virtue of also wearing a suit with two-tone shoes and a bowtie.
And King TV Dinnah >>153088351 predates all of them.
>>
>>153089359
Nah they’re right. Plagiarism in art is about the choices made in aggregate in comparison to contemporaries. There’s a point cumulatively where being able to come up with an alternate explanation for each one individually is not counterevidence, just plausible deniability.

That's what the argument is over? Oh for fuck's sake there's like fifty characters that are variants of the TV-for-a-head character. Why does every cunt with a comic or a YouTube channel automatically assume they're the first to think of an idea?

I do think part of the appeal of getting litigious about this, esp. with all the recent bantz against nonhuman sexymen always fitting a very particular mold, is that the primary alternative is admitting you just didn't make a very unique or interesting character and probably need to develop more distinct sensibilities. Scary business.
>>
okay, now that i've gotten my jeering out of the way
the artist needs someone close to them to gently hold their hand and tell them that they do not own the concept of a tv man with rainbow teeth, comparisons be damned
what's going to actually happen is people with suicidal empathy egging them on to actually attempt a lawsuit

Does Tenna specifically use it for his mouth tho? That's a very specific usage that as far as I know hasn't cropped up with any other TV head character.
>>
>>153090644
are you the webcomic author? seek professional counseling, not legal letters over a concept you don't own
>>
>>153090654
Are you some Glitch shill then? You keep trying to sidestep the valid points everyone else is making and concoct a straw argument that it's somehow specifically about the TV heads.
>>
>>153090688
valid points including "these characters have tv heads" and "they have rainbow signal teeth" and "i'm sorry you were wrongfully harassed and sent death threats, regardless of credibility. this means you are right in your delusions, somehow!"
>>
>>153090718
Nta but you’re doing it again
>>
>>153090718
>they have rainbow signal teeth
That's a pretty specific thing that hasn't been replicated elsewhere which you tried to brush it off by generalizing the usage of the SMPTE bars period not the way it's used in that specific instance. And as >>153089440 said it's about the cumulative effect, not the individual design components in a vacuum.
