Nah, I watched it when it first aired and it was great for about 3 seasons. Its style, ideas, and characters were very fresh at the time. Ironically it's "nostalgia blindness" from young'uns who only watched it 10-15 years later that makes it look stupid, zoomer, reddit and cringe.

I feel pretty smug for never having gotten gaslit into watching something that was so clearly terrible from looking at any given frame. The only reason anyone cared about this show was waifus, which eventually got replaced entirely by lesbians, and eventually by tumblr SJW garbage here and in every other show. Good riddance to that entire era.

I never saw The Matrix as a kid, but I saw Shrek and a bunch of other kids media parodying bullet time and stuff, and so years later when I finally watched the The Matrix it seemed corny and unimpressive. But that's no fault of The Matrix, it was doing cool and original things, I was just tainted by the things it influenced downstream.

Exactly. Exciting original ideas get copied and parroted endlessly and then decades later they look tired, stereotypical and unoriginal, but they were still amazing first time they came out.
