WB main mistake was giving Phillips free reign. When he cast Gaga and said it was going to be a musical they should have gone, no, and gotten a different director or script.

Even if Joaquin bailed, that's what they should have done. It's not like they really needed him, especially as firing those three (including Gaga here) would have saved about $40-50M from the final budget.
