As you'll see in the days ahead, I tried REALLY HARD to make sure any new additions would work with the overall existing monsters, especially their original designs. And while they are very different from each other (and, in fact, very different from themselves in every new appearance) there are a few common bits of design language: they are LOOSELY based on classic monster designs OR the well-known horror actors. most of them have fairly round eyes with eyelids. They are based on traditional breakfast foods/flavors. The designs feel like a cross between Rankin-Bass puppets and vintage Looney Tunes. And the names are puns or alliteration incorporating both monster and food, with the name referring to the CHARACTER, not the food per se (i.e., "Creature Crispies" doesn't work.)>So I tried Key Lime Creature, Citrus Creature, Crunchy Candy Creature, Lemon Creme Creature...I wasn't feeling any of them and not making him green in some fashion takes away a lot of his appearance. Then I realized that his flecks of gold (shown in the rediscovered Life Magazine pics, that were restored by my buddy @KerryGammill) could be cinnamon sprinkled all over him! Problem solved! I also liked making him a laid-back surfer dude (he HAS been known to hit the (sea)weed!) Zinc on his nose might be going a bit too far...
