It's more comfy instead of the pretentious, nihilistic, self-referential style of writing which it's been heavily criticized for.They've had a few wonky episodes and moments but there's been a noticeable change since season 7. Keep in mind, S6 is when Beth had incest with herself, and Jerry nearly had incest with his Mom. So they really needed to pivot.

He's a lot more honest with who he dates or what he screws. Space Beth also is a character on paper I thought I'd hate but really I appreciate her as her own character. Meta wise I no longer look at Rick and Morty as this high standard or even a standard on itself if it's gotten worse or better. If it's new I'll watch it, and that's as far as my personal intrigue goes.

Most guest voices don't do that, so that gives me hope Ridley might even come back on as a writer or co-producer at some point.
