Maybe because it was one of the early ones, but it is neither a slavish copy of its animated counterpart, nor an insulting political reaction to it. Unless you find the idea of Cinderella being a more active character insulting. It’s simply a grand fantasy for children with wonderful sets and costumes that feel real. If it weren’t for the cgi mice you’d think Kenneth Branagh brought an unrelated adaptation of the fairy tale to life.

>>153130047I enjoyed Cinderella, it was near the beginning of the whole thing and I thought the costume and set designs were pretty damn impressive. It expanded the story from the animated version in okay ways. To be fair, I was never a huge Cinderella fan, I had seen it a few times over the years, so any offensive changes probably passed by unnoticed. The rest were all varying degrees of garbage.

Also there's so many things like how her mother was killed by Dalmations because I bet at some point in the script some dumbass writer was trying to justify her killing dalmations out of revenge (she doesn't of course, if you haven't seen it). What an absolute clusterfuck of a movie.
