He was also fighting a Mark variant across the globe over the course of the day and it looked like he had the advantage until he started losing. Immortal has what it takes to hurt viltrumites but not the endurance and durability to keep up and win. He can provide decent support. Zoe hasn't shown she can damage non-Mark variant viltrumites. While it's true that she can recover from any damage, if the viltrumites get through her suit, she's dead, so they need to take extra care to protect her. They don't need to worry about Immortal dying.
