STEPS is a film that follows Cinderella’s evil stepsisters who are actually depicted as kind & misunderstood.Releasing later this year on Netflix.
>>153139798First look at Cinderella.
>>153139798>>153139808Wow this Cindy is cute...but there has to be a catch. Any more characters I can see?
>>153139798I.......... didn't expect the main characters in a non-Disney adaptation of Cinderella to look as hot as they can be. It's like with Happily N'ever After where the main villainess in that movie looked too sexy. They made the stepsisters Laika tier designed.R34 of these designs when?
>"These villains aren't actually villains!" movie #50063I'm tired boss
>>153139968I'll never be tired of cunny
>>153139808Chinese face filter phenotype.
>>153139968Don't watch it then
>>153139798To be fair, the stepsisters really would be a case of victims of a bad upbringing. If it wasn't Cinderella there, one or both of them would get that treatment instead. With a reality check and someone else to guide them other than their mom, they could be redeemable. Even Disney pulled that off for one of them with the straight to video sequels, long before "villain is good actually" was overdone. It's if you try to make the Stepmother misunderstood where you've messed up.
>>153140446yeah just like Draco Malfoy
>>153139886>>153139912Revolting Rhymes Cindy was cute in a sticc way.
>>153139798I could just say "that sounds lame and gay" or "what's even the fucking point" but let's go even further and see what happens. Maybe this will be Disney's Ruby Gillman and we'll all have a good laugh over it in the end.
>>153141700Not Disney
>>153141717Does that increase or decrease the odds of this being hilariously backward and idiotic?
>>153140446True, the child being used by the parent to bully the scapegoat child is also being abused. Usually “enabler recovery” in such an entrenched dynamic is not the focus either, it could be an interesting story. >It's if you try to make the Stepmother misunderstood where you've messed up.I think they did a satisfying job in the more recent live action with her. Not misunderstood but understood as how and why she is that way. That approach could be compelling with the stepsisters too, although the redeeming angle sounds more satisfying.
>>153139798What a novel concept.
>>153139968You will enjoy the shitty deconstructions of fairy tales
>>153141960I'm sure we can find more examples of this concept.
>>153140446>victims of a bad upbringingNo such thing.
>>153139968No see anon they’re women so they can’t actually be villainsEverything a women does is always justifiedThis is why you get Cruella, and Maleficent, and Wicked, and this - but will never see a Frollo, or Jafar etc.
>>153142135Nope
>>153139798>What if Cinderella >But it was actually Asian diaspora literature Ban Asian American women from writers room
>>153139798ZAMN, Cinderella's stepsisters look like THAT?!
>>153139798Didn't Disney already do this with the dtv Cinderella sequels?
>>153139798>>153139808So far, the character designs for this movie look nice. If anything, the fan art could be interesting.>>153143094Edit or not, seeing a chestlet mogged this hard is based.
>>153139798>>153139808Looks cute enough. Just a little generic, like all Netflix original animated films.
>>153139798We had this already with Cinderella 3. Can't they come up with something a little more unique if they're going to "subvert" a famous fairytale? Also, why are we making the evil stepbitch a sympathetic character? The point of the original was that Cinderella worked hard and lived with family who hated her, but got a prince in the end for staying good.
>>153139798STOP IT STOP IT RIGHT NOW
>>153147926Someone at Disney marketing department came to the conclusion that boys could watch princess movies if they hide they are princess movies with a single word and add a male companion having more or less the same screentime of the princess
>>153142341>This is why you get Cruella, and Maleficent, and Wicked, and this - but will never see a Frollo, or Jafar etc.Which is funny because unlike those other examples where it was added as a retcon, Frollo literally does have a tragic backstory in the book. His parents die of plague and he has to raise his infant brother, he pursues a career in the Church (even though it's against his nature) to better provide for them. The experience of being orphaned himself is what leads him to save Quasimodo, in the beginning his intentions are entirely good. His brother turning out a total shit is really what depresses him to the point he gives up on humanity.
