y'know how people say Nickelodeon basically refused to let SpongeBob end despite what Stephen wanted and milk it dry for low quality merch? ...well they were right!, they just applied it to the wrong show.
...anon you might legitimately be onto something
>>153143779in all fairness, They had NOTHING after spongeBob. Spongebob was already bring in over a billion in sales. and in 2004 all the 90s nick shows are ended. and I mean all of them. without spongebob nick was DEAD. they already lost Nickelodeon Studios by 2005, and most of theor films were falling flat. FoP would have ended in 2004 too but they kept that alive for the network.Danny Phantom reached it's peak in 2005, and never got better after Unltime Enemy. MLAATR was a joke and never lived long on the main network for long. and jimmy was dead after the flop of antbully.
>>153143779Z, Rule!, Danced Pantsed, the Reboot, the NEW Reboot, ALL of these are just Cartoon Network not letting the series die due to how much BANK it makes them. and considering how people mock SpongeBob for it's weird mech? at LEAST most of it actually fit the shows theme, PPG merch I'd argue is more cashgrabby than SpongeBob merch, considering how much of it just disregard the entire point of the show to make fucking make-up kits and cheap dolls, like, does something like this REALLY fit what show PPG is? or is it nothing more than a cheap cash in that slaps "GIRL POWER!!!" all over the place despite the show MOCKING that mindset
>>153143779>>153143961
>>153143779y'know what, real.
>oh boy new merch for my ever-growing collection
>>153143779On the contrary, CN back in the day actually respected McCracken's wishes to end Powerpuff Girls when he told them it "felt right." Sure, there were those two anniversary specials along with that reboot everyone hates, but the original series as it stands got to end on the creator's own terms. And I'll always find that admirable on the execs' part.
>>153143779>>153143816Cartoon Network isn't milking the cow as hard as Nickelodeon though. PPG is their most marketable franchise, but they didn't keep the show running since the 90s like Spongebob or artificially keep it on top by shooting down any shows they greenlit after one or two seasons.
>>153143877What about Avatar?Where would have that went? Also one of the few nicktoons that developed a big following post 2004
>>153146779the ppg rule special at least had craig involved in the productionshould've been longer though
I have mixed feelings on whether or now I want a property like PPG to return or let it rest in peace.I think continuing a show like PPG either goes one of two major ways: a AU spin-off, like all the Scooby-Doo shows, where the premise is slightly different, OR a very solid idea for a continuation or reboot that justifies its existence and continuation. The first is much easier to do for longevity's sake, but the latter would be so much more exciting.
>>153143779You say this as if it isn't equally true in regards to Spongebob.
I still think the merch slapping girl power all over the place was a fucking dumbass move, just reinforced the statement of PPG being a girl's only show, which it absolutely fucking wasn't
