I always see people going on and on about how Susan (Invisible Woman) is the strongest member of the Fantastic Four, but which member would you say is the weakest one?
>>
>>153147213
Reed unless you count his mind as a power
Then it's Ben.
>>
>>153147213
Human Torch probably
>>
>>153147315
Jonny at the very least has mobility, Ben is a brick. If something can overcome his durability he has no escape.
>>
>>153147213
Probably Ben, he isn’t even that big a heavyweight and that’s his only shtick

Physically also Sue

But ability wise probably Ben. Johnny can fly shoot fire and burn as hot as a supernova. Reed can stretch far distances, shape shift, can spontaneously make himself smarter and has telepathy and pull people into the mindscape.

All Ben really has is super strength and durability and endurance. I know he can also make clones of himself but it’s involuntary.
>>
>>153147213
Ben is the weakest.
Reed has magic science powers
Torch is nigh cosmic tier fire user who could burn half of the earth to ash
Ben is just a low level brick whose greatest power is total immortality super healing and being able to survive in basically all environments.
I mean him canonically aging in his thing firm us a side effect of him turning into a human every once in a while.
>>
>>153147213
Johnny. In like eighty percent of FF stories he does nothing whatsoever except throw fireballs in the direction of an enemy, which aren't allowed to do actual damage because that would be too violent. Either that or he gets trapped and uses his flame to escape
>>
>>153147213
Probably Ben.

Sue has those uber powerful forcefields and the ability to manipulate the electromagnetic spectrum if she really pushes it. Reed is like, a single tier below Plastic Man in how wondrous his stretch powers are and all the shit he can morph into/how resilient he is. Johnny has flight and extensive pyromancy, to where he can summon nuclear-strength heat blasts or create fire clones.

Ben is just really strong and really tough. He is quite literally just a big giant rock, except not actually because he's still meat and bones underneath and thus can be fucked with in that regard.
>>
Sue is a glass cannon. She has incredibly powerful abilities, but if someone gets through them and just conks her in the head with a bat she's going down.

What? I haven't read very much (almost any) FF but that's a thing?

Fantastic Four: First Family. It's a mini depicting the immediate aftermath of the accident, before the first encounter with Mole Man.

Why does the Thing meal come with bacon? Are they stupid?

I was reading an old FF issue where Johnny would lose access to his powers if he burned too hot, they've done away with that of course but the idea it was ever a thing made him immediately useless.
At least with Ben and Reed if they lost their powers they're still skilled in combat, piloting and science, Johnny was pointedly just a hothead teen. In the story he was fucking throwing himself at Namor of all people who could have folded his spine backwards with so much as a dismissive backhand, I've seen more read anons stress how Johnny's matured since those days but it's a wonder he survived them to.

If Lee and Kirby were more edgy, and I'm glad they're not to be clear, he'd be the sort of character you just know was in line to die early on to make the others redouble their efforts and get defensive and overprotective towards any new recruits taking his place.

>Johnny was pointedly just a hothead teen
At least this has been brought back from time to time. Part of why Johnny hangs tight to his celebrity status is because unlike the rest of the team, he doesn't have much outside of being the Human Touch. Reed has his brains and he and Sue have a family of their own. Ben is a skilled pilot and he's also now a husband and father. If they we're to lose their powers, Johnny would be the one taking the hardest hit since he wouldn't know what to do next.

Funny thing is a major death wasnt something unheard of at the time. Wood did it in THUNDER agents.
>>
>>153147537
>All Ben really has is super strength and durability and endurance
This weirdly enough makes him the best/easiest to write, there's a reason Ben can always get a mini every few years
>>
Isn't Ben nigh immortal? He only ages one day every year when he turns human again

And he'll live thousands of years and grow old and keep Franklin company long after everyone else is bones and dust

You're talking about this story in Fantastic Four #605 where Reed and his dad look into the future and see Ben's life play out raising new generations of Fantastic Fours after even Franklin has left and Reed learns to appreciate the time he has with Ben.

I like that they put bacon/ham on the Thing's tie-in food both times

Ben probably doesn't keep kosher anyway. Pretty sure he's eaten fastfood from non-kosher vendors at least.

a depressing reminder of our illiterate future

>>153149529
Put it this way She-Hulk is weakest in character, She's always giving into hedonism.
>>
I feel like Ben's power would be more useful more often but it feels wrong putting Johnny last since Ben's secret power is to job.

Definitely Ben. They've taken Ben's role as the heart of the team and walking existential dread too literally to the point it's all he's good for, and his strength is just the bare minimum necessary for keeping up with the team and the rest of the community. It's not even necessarily a bad thing, it's just kind of fascinating how Ben's the only member whose abilities power creeped in the opposite direction, while everyone else's powers evolved out of the initial body horror concept.
