In all honesty I think it's very common amongst the usual totally-anti-heroes-but-actually-villains characters too.And in all honesty, I don't get why people think Moore intended for him to be the "villain". Moore's just a contrarian. RorShaq is obviously the closest thing the book has to a moral character. He's written as a supreme chud who, in the end, is the only guy willing to fight for all the "whores and politicians". The ending is Moore essentially deifying Walter in contrast with Manhattan shutting Veidt's delusions down. For me, Watchmen is sort of an exploration of the concept of the Ubermensch. Laurie and Dan are merely LARPers, normalfags. Comedian is a broken nihilist who, in his last moments, betrays himself. Manhattan ascends humanity. Veidt reaches for the stars but ultimately is all too human, wracked by guilt. RorShaqalacka lives by a moral code to end but is generally unable to go beyond the established rules of conduct. All of them fail to become something higher.
