>>153154410It's gonna be interesting seeing more and more industry vets flood the indie market with kickstarters
I'm watching old shit on Tubi and lamenting how by the time I got into the industry, it was at the tail end before the collapse. I got to experience only a little bit of working on a TV show before long-term unemployment became my career path. I now watch things like Donkey Kong Country and go, "Fuck, I'd love to work on this shit for eight seasons if they'd let me" whereas when I was in college, I had viewed this as unfulfilling, uninspiring stuff to work on. I will gladly work on Family Guy and be on-model, draw a bunch of crowd shots, and basically trace model sheets if it means a steady job for 10 years. I get to re-use assets to get the storyboards done faster? They encourage me to just copy and paste backgrounds into the boards? Easiest job of my life. Hire me, FOX, I'll work for 1/3rd of an LA-based artist.
>>153154526Seth seems to be hellbent on propping up western animation. Family Guy, American Dad, the upcoming Ted cartoon, the Stewie spinoff
>>153154457Who's next I wonder
The future of animation is as follows:>Kid's movies and AIslop for young children>Indie for tweens, internet autists, and theater kids>Shonen anime for hoodweeb adults and Hispanics>Euro movies and deeper/more pretentious anime for pseuds>Horny anime/OVAs for horny otakuThe American kid cartoon for 6-11 year olds is dead and will remain dead for the foreseeable future.
>>153155082I've been working on a cartoon that would tradionally hit the 6-12 demoShould I adjust it?
>>153154410I blame CN from backing away from their TV-PG direction in 2010 to toddler slopIn fact, I genuinely believe they should have gone further and introduced mild swearing like hell, ass, damn, etc
>>153155124If it's indie then it may have a chance to attract the autistic internet dweller audience even if it's mostly made for children.

Everything you think of as media and the entertainment industry is barely 120 years old at best. Paintings, live music and plays are older, but everything else is barely any older than the oldest man alive.Even Alice in Wonderland is from 1865 and is probably the oldest English book you've heard of that doesn't need to be re-translated without its meaning being completely lost on most people. And written language itself is over 5,000 years old. And almost all of it is gone because almost none of it matters. All the ways people wanted and expected technology to advance in the past 100 years hasn't come true, but technology has and will continue to advance in every way regarding media-related technology and it won't be very long until there is no point in pursuit of it at all. The writing has been on the wall for a long time but anyone that actually cares doesn't like what it has to say.
>>153154526>>153154548Based Seth giving out animation jobs like it's nothing
>>153154526I don't see a point in working in the arts if you're making slop like that. might as well be an accountant. I don't look down on people working on that and I would do it. But only as a means to do something worthwhile.
>>153154457Will they receive the same treatment John K and Hartman got when theirs failed, or will the usual lefttard shielding be in place?
>>153154410You posting the same thread again
>>153154410Anons ITT will perform the most convoluted mental gymnastics to say he's wrong because they've already concluded the reason the western animation industry is collapsing is because of "wokeness" and not that the world has changed and the way these cartoons used to turn a profit doesn't work anymore
>>153163354Your refusal to acknowledge the fact that wokeness actually is an issue is funny. If it weren't an issue it'd be collapsing at the same rate foreign animation is collapsing, not faster.
>>153154410>>153155147The shift towards younger demographics was literally done because CN was greedy and not only resented the fact that Toonami was taking away eyes from native programming, but also because they constantly failed to double-dip in terms of appealing to young girls (it's not a complete coincidence that Regular Show and Adventure Time became more drama/romance focused). Part of the reason why Ben 10 was constantly getting fucked over was because it was a pure boy's action show with no real pettiness or domestic squabbling. It's what they DON'T tell you about Green Lantern getting screwed up and the suits going "I guess girls don't wanna watch boys stuff/boys don't wanna see girls stuff" while then resenting the girls who DID show up to watch boys stuff for specific reasons (like with Young Justice or for the romance subplot in GL)Streaming fucking up the traditional cable model, and price gouging + inflation + lack of accessible merchandise.Japan is eating us alive because they're not afraid to spend money on merchandise in order to make money. Even with the 8-9 episode seasons we're stuck with thanks to budget cuts stemming from the transition to streaming, the big cartoon companies REFUSE to push out merch that's not only easy to access, but of acceptable quality.I work at a school. I see plenty of kids with anime t-shirts and keychains and stickers and action figures and hats and general knickknacks but hardly any swag for American cartoons UNLESS it's Vivzieshit or Glitch stuff. The golden age of boys' cartoons is over because the companies are hungry for girls' money, but get pissy because the boys won't show up to watch stuff made for girls unless the girls are sexy/cute (potential girlfriends - see moe anime for proof of this), while the girls won't show up to watch boys' stuff unless romance and social drama become a BIG part of the premise (which ends up driving away the boys as time passes).
>>153154410the only reason you dont get picked up in any industry is either, youre not gay enough or paedophilic enough
>>153163486All of that should be painfully obvious to even the most sheltered shut-in. It's only the "woke" aka gay-race-communists and their DEI crap that refuses to believe that refuse to acknowledge objective reality.
Well, we can start with Disney giving the green light to both The Owl House and Amphibia.
>>153163601Both sides of the engineered culture war REALLY do not want to reconcile with the truth that luxury goods in the Anglosphere are dictated by corporations trying to enforce certain behaviors or failing to capitalize off of parallel demographics (ones at odds with the main customer base) rather than focus on the customers who actually show up to consistently buy the product. In America, corporations believe they are entitled to not just your money, but other people's money and they'll compromise what YOU buy in a vain and foolish attempt at getting ALL the money. The combination of the 08 recession, OWS (distract from the class war, read the Epstein files) and misinterpretations of Obama election exit polls has resulted in everything revolving around chasing the highest spenders and biggest debt slaves (women, queer Anglo women, and African-Americans).

>>153154526In my teens I misjudged Seth, believing his work was only for fools, but I realize that without him, animation would be dead in America, and I also rediscovered his comedy (something I hadn't done since I was a kid).>>153162937But Anon, those who make garbage are the ones who keep art alive. If people had to wait for the next Picasso or Mozart to be born, art would have died a long time ago.

>board driven shows are deadThank fucking God. I know this won't instantly fix anything, but storyboard artists staying in their fucking lane is a step in the right direction at least.
>>153166771Nope, corpocuck
>>153166771You realize that shows like SpongeBob, Dexter, Powerpuff Girls, etc. were board driven, right?
>>153168373Not him but episodic comedies work much better for storyboarding compared to other things.I was talking with a friend about this the other night about why animation struggles so much with actual scary horror and the core reason we came up with was simply that horror works best when its an actual human face with the expressions of an actual human face on the receiving end of the suffering to create a realism to the violence.I say this because the specific artstyle these shows incorporates is great for wide range of expressive faces but is absolutely terrible when you're trying to capture more complex emotions and expressions that rely on the sum of various subtle details.
>>153154526at least you got to work on shit, I'm still going to art school after an animation degree I know is worthless and building a portfolio in the chance even one opportunity pops up in the next couple years
