Jeez, this didn't age very well
>>
What? Yes it did. Because it never tried to look realistic it avoids the dated CGI problem. The movie is about planned obsolescence and corporate greed. It hits themes that feel more modern now than in 2005.
>>
Ratchet and Gasket are such one-dimensional villains
>>
>>153154821
Literally how?

>>153154988
What makes them one dimensional?
>>
>>153154988
So? They're still better than the vast majority of modernslop twist villains
>>
>>153154988
How so? Ratchet isn't just greedy, he genuinely believes that efficiency equals progress. He sees himself as improving the world, not just taking over. Gasket follows Ratchet’s orders but sometimes shows nervousness or doubt. That shows that he's not just a mindless henchman.
>>
>HIT ME BABY ONE MORE TIME
>>
So why did Bigweld leave the company in Ratchet's hands in the first place? And why did he seclude himself on his workshop to play with dominos for who knows how long?
>>
>>153154821
it's just rust. still good
>>
>>153155939
He was forced out by Drek’s influence and the corporate greed overtaking the planet. And the domino thing symbolizes withdrawal from a world he can no longer control. Visual metaphor for emotional stagnation and escapism. Just that scene alone has more depth to it than most of the animated movies we get today.

Being the first movie to have janny representation was really brave of them
>>
>>153154821
On the contrary, it aged amazingly well. The commentary on consumerism, medical aid and corporate greed is more relevant than ever, even if it's extremely unsubtle about it.
>>153154988
I used to think that, but honestly, Ratchet is no worse than some real-life CEOs. The only unrealistic thing about him is that he tends to say the quiet parts loud for the sake of comedy.
>>
Someone on /co/ pointed out that there's no "revealing the conspiracy" plot because the chop shop is public knowledge, and that the climax and turning point is just Rodney and his gang exhausting every possible nonviolent solution and instead going to the bad guy's house and killing him as quickly as possible.

I think about that a lot.
>>
>>153158143
>the chop shop is public knowledge
It's not public knowledge in the sense that the high and middle class didn't know or care what was happening with the poor bots.
There's a "vanishing middle class" theme to the movie where average bots like Rodney's family were oblivious to the state of things until the rising cost of living (expensive new parts and no spare parts) was threatening to make them destitute as well.

It's one of those films that triumphs at a specific and unrepeatable moment.
Just like Shark Tale; they belong to another era, when the industry wasn't imaginary bankrupt.

What did I say? Ok, maybe I was exaggerating somewhat but it's a really good example of "show, don't tell" that you don't really get today. The fact that you had to ask about it leads me to believe that you must not be used to this form of subtle storytelling and therefore must be a zoomie.

That should really be plan A.

I have a working theory that whenever a talking point like this pops up about how a nostalgic nerd movie “didn’t age well”, the critic is trying to make it seem like they’re implying something about the movie’s politics, but they’re secretly seething about the inclusion of a fetish character (Aunt Fanny, in this case).

I know I'm responding to a bait thread by sharktalefag but Robots is probably the movie that aged the best out of any of the 1995-2005 era animated movies, hands down, at least graphically. The art direction played into the weaknesses of animation at the time and it looks almost timeless in a way 3D movies almost never do. It's fantastic.
Some of the humor is a bit dated but the planned obsolescence storyline aged pretty well too.

"Oh wowy wow wow, there was adult humor in this all audiences movie all along guysssss"

Well neither did my penis, but you don't see me posting about it every fucking day, do you?
>>
>>153164739
... I just wanna talk about Robots, ok.
>>
>>153154821
It's still pretty good though
>>
It certainly aged better than, say, Osmosis Jones
>>
I have jerked off to THAT scene more times than I'd care to admit.
