Just watched this. The plot is like a video game plot or something, travel the five different worlds and defeat the bosses to gather magical shards that act as powerups for your quirky dragon companion. So strange, doesn't really work for a movie. And none of the characters barely get more than 30 seconds of development before it's on to the next thing.Sisu is a serious cutie though, I wish she had more screentime, or a bigger role in the climax. If there ever was a film that needed to be half an hour longer it's this one.I love dragons so fucking much.
>>153154848it should have been 90 minutes of Sisu and nothing else, it would have made billions
>>153154848This is a highly satanic movie because it prommotes the false religion of Buddhism and has dragons aka DEMONS
>>153154916Jehovah is a dragon in the bible m8.
Raya a CUTE
also is it ever explained why the dragon pearl brings back the other dragons the second time when it didn't the first time?I really don't like copout endings, but it is a disney movie so I guess it's to be expected.
this scene was so badass
This stupid blue noodle ruined my LIFE
>>153155675what did she do to you anon?
as half-baked as the story was, I think the theme of "you should trust people, but some people aren't trustworthy" was handled really well, they don't oversimplify it, even right up until the end there's trust issues that causes problems and it's only when they all fully let go of their issues that things get resolved. It leaves a unique flavour in your mouth, that spiritual idealism mixed with a tang of harsh reality. If they had smoothed out the pacing and characterization better this could have been a masterpiece.
>>153155802>what did she do to you anon? Not exist
>>153156002I feel you, friend.
>>153154848Yo I never seen this movie but I'd fuck the shit outta that dragon.
>>153154848Except most videogames would be ashamed of that anticlimatic garbage ending
I think part of what makes Sisu so appealing is that she is completely unwavering in her trust. She doesn't doubt herself or others, she doesn't have some low point in her arc she has to overcome, she just believes in people the whole time. It makes her feel elementally good on a spiritual level, like an eastern water dragon should feel.Maybe the shitty writing is the price to pay for that? A better writer would have tried to shoehorn some dramatic development into her and it would have made her not feel like a dragon anymore.>>153156358What didn't you like about it?
>>153156399>What didn't you like about it?Off the top of my mind, I remember the villains got away with barely a slap in the wrist after declaring war on everyone and almost destroying the world. There was even that infuriating line from a villain blaming Raya for trusting her.
>>153156399People just don't like Namaari.Trust is important, sure. But the movie forgets trust is a two-way street and having a character like Namaari, who constantly betrays you and you're STILL expected to give her more chances rubbed people the wrong way.
>>153156640There wasn't really any one villain? They all fought over the gem causing it to get shattered. They all hoard their shards. If anything Raya becomes the villain at the end. Sisu is very close to breaking through to the fang girl I forget her name, but Raya is the one who lashes out. Then she focuses on revenge which doesn't help anything.>>153156775That's her name. I feel like this is a good thing for the movie actually. It's exactly because the world is full of untrustworthy, deceitful people like her that the message begins to carry any weight at all. It doesn't paper over that conflict with some false message of friendship. It leaves a unique, sour-sweet taste in your mouth. You should trust people. But some people aren't trustworthy. Trust them even when they don't deserve it.It gives it a spiritual resonance, something like christ's command to bless your enemies. Since most people are spiritually dead they hate that message.
>>153156913The problem is, from Raya's perspective, an idiot that has caused nothing but problems is pointing a crossbow at her friend because said idiot hasn't learned a fucking thing all movie long and still insists on being a problem because taking 10 minutes to think is a bridge too far.
>>153157253The real problem is if they just trusted each other from the beginning there wouldn't even be a disaster to begin with. Or if she just trusted her there, Sisu could have put the gem back together right then and everything would be fine. The lack of trust is fully justified, but it's also the root cause of every problem they have. That's a special feeling for any movie to have. The ending feels like a kind of ego-death. They must give up their human failings to succeed.
>>153156913>There wasn't really any one villain?Bitch queen and her daughter were openly villains, though maybe not for the writers who are usually tone-deaf these days, specially when dealing with female characters.
>>153157397Antagonist yes. Villain, no.
>>153157378But the people who didn't have any trust in the beginning of the movie were ALSO Namaari and her family. There's a certain point where we just have to look at someone and say, "You guys suck and yes, this is all your fault."
>>1531576207x70
>>153155305It was the most memorable scene for me, too. Even without any dialogue spoken, there's a lot of intense emotion in it. Sisu intends to do just some scary posturing so that the bad guys will run away in terror. She doesn't want to actually hurt anyone for real. But her intimidation act fails to work on that woman. She's too awestruck to feel scared at a huge dragon roaring at her face. So Sisu just looks confused and unsure about how to handle that. The encounter leaves both of them with hope. Whats-her-face learns that there's still a dragon alive in the world, and Sisu wonders if the nasty backstabber lady might be nicer than Raya assumes. It's just a really cool and impactful scene.>>153155983>>153156913I thought it was interesting how the movie addressed whether to trust someone who has broken your trust before. Is it possible to fix past incidents with forgiveness, or is it naive and irrational to give them another chance? These posts remind me of something I once stumbled on, pic related. It's written from a religious perspective, but it discusses a mathematical model so it's applicable enough for secular people too. Here's also something relevant to play around with:https://ncase.me/trust/
>>153157991Yeah it sets up the cliff scene really well too, where they have a similar kind of confrontation again. Really makes you think she's just about to give in to hope before, well you know.
not enough sisu x raya
one last "I love Sisu!" post before I go to bed.
>>153154848I don't remember where I heard it, but someone said this should've been a series while that series set in future Africa (can't remember it's name. It was about a robot gecko or something?) should've been a movie because Raya's world could use the extra time to be explained
>>153159875I saw some posts saying there were like 20-30 minutes cut, that would probably have saved the pacing. Too bad there'll never be an extended edition or anything.Between having to cover 5 locations, each with their own new characters, and setting up the worldbuilding, prologue, finale, and various comic relief scenes there's probably less than 10 minutes for each location, it's just not enough.A series would have been even better, but obviously the animation wouldn't be anywhere near as good and I need my dragon waifu to look her best.
>>153160050>I need my dragon waifu to look her best.I can respect that. She is very pretty
>>153154848Good movie
OP's complaints are minor and really don't matter, compared to the elephant in the room. The moral is horrible, and self destructive>trust all your enemies>just trust everyone>throw away your weapons, just hug everyone>forgive everyone, no matter WHAT they did to you>just be willing to hug the whole world>complete, unflinching trust>then we will have world peace utopia
>>153154848boopable snoot!

I want Pengu and Jagan to pin me to the ground and take turns brutalizing my helpless, tender asshole with their massive dragoncocks.
Would you “co-star” with Sisu?
>>153154848I wanna touch Sisu's fluffy derg chest and feel her ribcage underneath as I drag my hand downwards.
Her voice is a bonerkill

He is Risen, and Sisu loves you!
This movie settled in my mind the idea that many homeless people are dragons watching us and how we treat them

>>153154848Personally I thought it seemed like the setup to a tv show more than a video game. Also a little bit it gave me the vibes of trying to come off as some kinda young adult novel. But you have a good point with the video game comparison too.Whatever it was, it really felt like it was trying hard to be something that is not a disney movie. But it completely failed at it. And then also consequently failed at being a good disney movie.
>>153166363they literally have the final bossfight with namaari and after her health bar is depleted the ending cutscene begins playing
All the side chatting about vidya makes me wish Disney Interactive Studios were still a thing...
>>153166442>killed both DIS and LucasArtsa crime on par with EA shuttering Origin.
only thing i remember about that movie is the "evil" white hag queen with the sidecut, unf
>>153166465Don't remind me... A Raya action-adventure would've been fucking sick.
>>153166513Even the half-baked platinum ATLA one was decently fun, switching the different bending styles.
>>153166580Yeah, that's kinda what I had in mind too, albeit with different playable characters.>playable Sisu never...
>>153166666nice digits, satanunderwater exploration with Sisu would be so neat....
>>153166387Yeah I don’t play the vidya.
>>153166705Probably would make for some of the more tolerable water levels in vidya depending on how well the gameplay's designed.
>>153166513>>153166580These days it's easier to dream about a fan mod for an ATLA game or something.
>>153160732That's the whole movie, ya dingus. People bought (or didn't buy) tickets to see the dragon. Who cares what the moral is if the journey to get to it sucks? The movie didn't fail because of the moral, it failed because of the poor pacing and too little screen-time with Sisu.
It is definitely an odd movie. Great setting and general story and good characters, just the whole movie still felt kind of rushed and unfocused.Noodle is cute though.
>>153169727another victim of constant interference, rewrites, changing out directors, scrapbooking that disney has been murdering their creativity with for the past decade or so.
Awoo
>>153170266Just looking at the amount of writers it's obvious that production was a complete mess.
I will not permit the TADC announcement to slide the noodle thread.
Movie should have ended with Raya turning into a dragoness with Sisu
>>153171663why? makes no sense.I would have liked to have seen Sisu going around unstoning people like Aslan. Could have been a very emotional scene with the dad. But I guess she was too busy being dead.
>>153171087Fuckin’ shame. I would’ve liked to see a sequel with Sisu’s siblings playing a more prominent role.
>>153171804Yeah it's really strange they don't even get one line. You'd think the reunion would have been a major scene.
>>153171819I still wonder if they all were supposed to have raspy chainsmoker voices or was it just Sisu being the weird one
>>153171742Because more dragons are always needed
Would have been better if Sisu was evil.
>>153174056This look actually matches the raspy voice perfectly, probably was cast for it
>>153171663This.
>>153174056No, she's so cute as a goodie naive little force of trust and joy.
>>153154848I kind of agree tbqdesu, it kind of felt like multiple individual films smashed together and none of the concepts really developed well. Even the main antagonist didn't really get enough screen time to actually justify her whole deal and so you just get this sense that things are sorta just happening because they need to happen for the movie to end. Anyway, just imagine
>>153155675>ywn throttle a sisu to deathWhy even live?
>>153160314Ywne climaxing in her as in the afterglow, she wraps around you, the shared warmth and love, she hums you to sleep in safety, peace.

>>153176151That's so beautiful.... I think I'm going to cry.I had some pretty serious heart break lately, felt like I was going to die. I decided to randomly watch this movie I had been putting off for years. And Sisu made me feel at peace again. Now you're telling me an angel helped me.no idea who the OC is but the picture was nice
>>153176294 The OC's name is Missia; she's a Seraphim drawn by 'lizardseraphim' on Deviantart, and is intended to literally be a depiction of their Guardian Angel who helped them through a hard time way back when.
>>153176806sorry I meant the little furry critter riding sisu in the pic I posted, but that one is really cool too!
>>153176820Easy enough. The character is Magenta by Magenta7 on Furaffinity; he's a Fennec Fox.

>>153174430Raya having to "sacrifice" her humanity to save Sisu and turning her into a dragon as well would have been the best ending
>>153182260would have made her into an even more boring mary sue. her giving up and leaving it in the hands of the apparant villainess actually saved her character.
>literally ALL movie staff wanted Sisu dead permanently>saved only by one producer's interjectionWhat a bunch of sadistic freaks holy fuck.
>>153182549I can kinda see why, but then her smile at the end is what really ties everything together and the film would have been hollow without that.Based producer protecting her smile.
