Just imagine if this show had had an actual narrative structure without the podcast shit. That 10% of the show with an actual legit story gets me blueballed just thinking back to it. Pen Ward is an ideas man but he can never keep shit coherent on his own. The best of AT and Bravest Warriors had Muto and Breehn running the show
>>153156843>crazy shit happens on screen>they just calmly talk about boring mundane stuff that has nothing to do with what’s going on
>>153156896Sounds kind of ass, didn't see it but I always assumed that's what happened
>>153156896could dub the show like an anime with completely new dialogue relevant to the animation
>>153156843i was excited for an adult version of adventure time and they fucked it up
>>153156843I have no idea how it would turn out but animation set to the sound of wet meat slaps and babies crying would be more appealing than listening to Duncan Trussel stumble through meek acceptance of total horseshit.

>>153156843>new isekai every episode>each world is in the middle of their own apocalypse>god comes down to visit>he casually tells you he just simulated your whole world’s existence 5 minutes ago and your universe is ending because his simulator is bootlegged and jailbroken>god doesn’t give a shit about the doomsday he just wants to hang out and chaton paper this sounded awesome
it's sad, for a second I thought this might be interesting. I'm all for crazy introspective hoopajoopbut it quickly becomes clear that, like all LAliens, he doesn't actually have any real thoughts or beliefs. Just a pallative tone about everything, omni-acceptance. And if everything is exactly as cool with you, then that means nothing is.
>>153156843I thought it was a cool concept. The show is kinda vapid but not any more so than contemporaries.
>pendletroon ward made some dogshit slopwhat else is new
>>153157714Stfu, you projecting troon
>>153157725sneed
>>153156843wasted homo design
>>153157857Stop looking at the screen
>>153157881youre right because midnight gospel is on the screen
>>153156843I think they could have done something mostly the same, like having two voice actors roleplaying as characters with a loose script, and kept the show the same, while having the overall plot and feel of the show be better. It kinda strains against itself when you have these simulated characters talking about shit that isn't actually in their fictional little worlds, and then Clancy, who is likewise from a far stranger world with A LOT OF WEIRD SHIT GOING ON talking about mundane real world shit like fighting with his printer or going to parties. They try to make it work by recontextualizing things, but it would be better if it were just some clever improv actors riffing on the themes of the episode, and then refining that script before working on the episode.
The mom episode made me cry
>>153156843I liked the podcasting
>>153158174ipad babby
>>153158166Same, I don't know anything about this show but I stumpled upon that scene with his mother and I was failing to choke back my tears because I just lost my mom to fucking breast cancer too.
>>153158476>>153158166This is going to sound very harsh, but you fell for crass and cynical emotional manipulation. The illusion crafted by that episode shatters when you picture the reality: an aging manosphere podcaster shoving a microphone in front of his dying mother to monetize her state and the accompanying sympathy.
>>153158166that ep is the show’s legacy because it’s sentimental i think
>>153158596Congratulations anon you've discovered the secret to all art.
>>153158596Far as I understand, it was her idea (might be completely wrong on that) but even still, I don't think it was a good idea to try and make an event out of something so morbid and personal for either of them. I think they were going for something like how it's important to actually confront death and face it in a healthy, constructive way... But it just came off as exploitation.
>>153158734Shut up
>>153158734Both the purest intentions behind it and the cynical material conditions its made under are equally true parts of the artwork.
>>153156843cute feet
>>153157042just watch the clip with him talkiing to his own mom that is dying of cancer or some shit like that and you don't have to watch anything else.
>>153156843>Midnight Gospelhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGE381tbQa8
>>153156843>Muto >The best of AT I'm a fan of the later seasons, but don't even play. Pen's influence those first 4-5 seasons still made for some iconic television with infinite rewatchability. Plus I'd argue Midnight Gospel proved his writing sensibilities are more in-line with Muto's than many of you assumed.
>>153162092Elephant too
>>153158752Eh, if it was her idea I don't see how it's exploitative. I wasn't all that affected by the episode even after I lost a parent to a similar situation but the intention behind it seemed pure enough.
>>153157725Gtfo, you deflecting toon.
test
>>153162229Yeah, that whole thing was very artsy and introspective, but it also confirmed that I'd love to see more original stuff from Pen. Despite hitting it big so early in his career, he's never tried to stay tethered to Adventure Time and is always experimenting. LET HIM COOK (preferably without Duncan Trussell)
i oddly see Common Side Effects as an improved cousin-show to this
>>153162092Kys
>>153156843>imagine if this show was something completely different instead????????
>>153164305You're good bro
>>153156843That pink twink needs to get fucked.
>>153166002he’s 44 years old
