Let us read every TMNT comic ever made. This is going to be a long one.
>>153162216Really I don’t get why #1-4 were the mega-hit they were. The Marvel comics of the time they were parodying had blood and violence, and there were enough out-there sci-fi comics slowly clogging up the LCS. Though TMNT brought out a lot more.
>>153162216Sweet! Reading Usagi made me want to read the original Mirage turtles.
This is the reading order I am using, btw. I guess Multiversity no longer exists.https://eliasrwrites.ghost.io/tag/so-you-want-to-read-tmnt/
I find the whole April has always been black narrative funny because here she is introduced with a black man (who is later White in adaptations) and is clearly not black.>>153162272Having the right timing is everything.
>>153162547It’s an (internet) pop-culture line. People don’t care enough to check it and it just sinks into the culture war swamp.
>>153162578That's all well and good, howeverhttps://www.target.com/p/neca-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-mirage-comics-april-o-39-neil-7-34-scale-action-figure/-/A-94264529
>>153162275>>153162278I remember this speech from the 2003 series and it wasnt until recently I found out it was lifted directly from the comics.
>>153162272Reading up on it, it seems like a lot of people wanted more manga type comics, the name itself grabs attention on the comic racks, and the low print runs meant sheer word of mouth was the main marketing method and when you have more spirited fans recommending it, it gains enough attention of Mark Freedman who then got them a toy deal that is really what started it all. Kinda weird looking up his name doesn't turn up much but it seems like he is a very key-figure but even he didn't know it. There is some footage of him talking to Eastman and Laird, saying in three years this toyline would be gone and that was the expected life of this IP and that was what he was offering them through working with them. Though I'm not a Turtle guy, I just looked a bit of this up.
>>153162365It is utter bullshit there hasn't ever been a DD crossover with them. Fuck Marvel.
>>153162849Man this guy was everywhere in comics in the 80's.
>>153162597this shit is hystericalby the same company
>>153162547Eastman has muddied the waters so bad people don't even think for themselves anymore
>>153162575Gonna do an Usagi ENTER here
>>153162275>I sense his body quivering with tense energy, waiting to be triggered into savage, slashing release!!Uh. Am I the only one...?
>>153162365wow, that young man was a real hero. I wonder whatever happened to him. hopefully his eyes weren't injured or anything.
We'll continue tomorrow.
>>153163923Thanks OP!
>>153162216I guess it's fitting to have this next to the Usagi Yojimbo storytime, but oh boy is it going to be a challenge to keep up with both simultaneously.
>>153163674Triceratons are so fucking cool looking.
>>153163711Man, if those are still around they must cost a fortune.Luckily Brother Vinni makes resin knockoffs
>>153162275Purple dragons this early? Wow, never knew they were OG enemies, no wonder they're shoved into basically every TMNT adaptation.
>>153162278Oh hey, the TMNT movie referenced this exact page.
>>153162302>Ow_the_edge.png
>>153162323There's something about the way Splinter drawn here that's very...off-putting. Like he's drawn in a more realistic way than the turtles.
>>153162329I will never get over this Splinter origin being the original canon version. Not only is it such a goofy, cartoonish element to an otherwise gritty comic, but it's also the origin adapted into basically every version of TMNT thay goes for a more serious tone. The more lighthearted adaptations stick to the "human turning into a rat through mutagen" explanation, which is significantly more reasonable than Splinter being the predecessor to Ratatouille. It's such a strange situation all around, though I'm not gonna lie and say I don't appreciate the irony of it all.
>>153162336Oroku Nagi? Huh, I wonder why his name was changed to Saki in adaptations.
>>153162309hilariously small manhole coveri bet their shells woudnt fit
>>153165135>>153162351Ah, Saki was the brother. So I guess adaptations merged the two characters into one as a way to smooth out the story, then.
>>153162365Lmao, this whole backstory is goofy as hell.
>>153162386It's interesting how this version of Splinter explicitly raised them as killing machines for the sake of revenge. Every other version is the exact opposite, where their martial arts was taught out of giving the Turtles a means of self-defense, and mostly to AVOID the Foot.
>>153162393...delivering a message to challenge the Shredder? You guys are assassins, what the hell. Just kill him in his sleep or while he's occupied, like how Shredder did to Yoshi.
>>153162438The goober brigade is here.
>>153162458>>153162463>throwing as many canon fodder students as possible to easily defeat the challengers while they're exhaustedAh, I see the traditions of Feudal Japan run strong among the Foot.
>>153162471Wow, surprised Leo actually got a hit in.
>>153162488Oh shit. That was quick.
>>153162504I wish it was more clear that Shredder blew himself up here.
>>153162510>It seems the Shredder...has been shredded!https://youtu.be/7uW47jWLMiY?si=kCJlVpl8J9bo_8uMAlso it's really funny how that actually gets referenced in the later seasons of the 2003 series' intro.
>>153165280Wait, that's what happened?! I thought he just fell to his death. So they didn't even kill them like they were trained to, he was hoist by his own petard like a Disney villain.
>>153165295Yeah. In panel three, the gernade is falling with him, and that white splash in panel four is the explosion. Later, they'll talk about him being blown up, and I had to go back to check.
>>153162570Oh wow, I was not expecting Mousers in just the second issue. In every other version the Mousers are treated as an "oh SHIT" moment, and are always a tier above the usual goons they fight.
>>153163102>posting images during Storytime Come on now.
>>153162575Man, 80s news would just show anything on TV.
>>153162621I can't believe future interpretations of Baxter are somehow LESS cartoonish than this version. Like, this dude put Captain Planet villains to shame with how hammy he is.
>>153162667Realistic April jumpscare.
>>153162683>there is also Michelangelo, who was here at home>Hi!Lmao.
>>153162688>>153162697This dude LOVES being a stereotypical hammy villain.
>>153162705LYLE, LYLE. TURN ON THE TV THEY HIT THE REXTAB BUILDING! TURN ON THE TV IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT CHANNEL!
>>153162737Not gonna lie, Baxter getting his shit pushed in was satisfying.
>>153162792That first panel is gorgeous.
>>153162817Man, what a strange issue. You think issue 1 would set the tone for a grittier sort of TMNT, but issue 2 feels even sillier than the 80s cartoon at points. Reading the issues back to back is such intense tonal whiplash.
>>153162800Kevin and Peter were inspired by Frank Miller who in turn was inspired by Kazuo Koike who had a school and his top students include: Tetsuo Hara, Hideyuki Kikuchi, Yuri Horii, Keisuke Itagaki, Takayuki Yamaguchi, and a certain lass by the name of Rumiko Takahashi
>>153162688>>153162697I get that he's supposed to be black, but this is going a bit far, isn't it?
>>153165530Wait until we get to the Leo special. Might be the best issue of the Eastman and Laird run.
>>153163424It's weird seeing human Foot just get straight up murked, isn't it?
>>153162943QRD?
>>153164452Honestly if OP were smart he would've waited until after the annual UY storytime.
>>153165865The artist.
>>153165866I didn't know it was going right now. Should I stop and wait for him to be over?
>>153165968I'm not your boss (and you're looking at over two weeks' worth of storytime so it'll be a bit of a wait), but I think you probably would have gotten better uptake if you had started this afterwards. Now I don't know, it'll be weird to just jump in with the Triceraton arc.
>>153162504No one could have survived that.
>>153162365>daredevil (ninjas)>x-men (also mutants and some teens)>Spiderman (wisecracking hero from New York with animal based powers)TMNT teamed up with Batman but how has Marvel not done a TMNT miniseries crossover ? I'm sure it would sell pretty well.
>>153162351such is life in... late-showa japan.
>>153162216>Naruto meets the TMNT >TMNT meet the Stranger Things kids >Stranger Things kids meet the 7 Deadly Sins >7 Deadly Sins meet Fairy Tail Conclusion: https://files.catbox.moe/i2ei27.jpg
>>153162272>The Marvel comics of the time they were parodying had blood and violenceThen you didn't read 1-4, because the "blood and violence" reputation has always been extremely wrong and exaggerated.
>>153162575what the fuck
>>153162857They look so derpy with this Garfield ass artstyle.
After reading these, I can see why it was the cartoon that made the TMNT a household name and not the comics…
>>153165988I can redo this thread. I'm also doing Absolute right now, so it would be nice to finish that first. I'll wait.
>>153162365Maybe that kid should become a lawyer or something. He needs to sue the TCRI corporation
>>153162351Ya know, if you do the math here Splinter’s story completely falls apart.
>>153162344Feudal Japan is no more, there are worse things to endure than ritual suicide: living in New York...
>>153166131He doesn’t.
It's weird seeing the Turtles kill. It's one thing for them to gun for Shredder, but random Purple Dragons and Federation soldiers.
>>153163256completely unhinged
>>153163282I've always wondered but was Casey inspired by Sportsmaster?
>>153163897JANNIES AIIEEEE!!!!A NIPPLE!11!!!!
