The 12-18 months have been an outright humiliation ritual for marvel.>Slott confirmed that books are only greenlit for 5 issues unless preorders for #1-2 are great>you might only get #10 unless you sell amazing>and even then 11+ issues don't seem to be guaranteed (they relaunched Magik despite her book being top 50 until they announced the cancellation)>Spider books are an absolute mess and are having to rely on Paul being dead for hype>X-Men books are trash and are the worst offenders of marvel's constant relaunches>new Ultimate universe got bitch slapped by Absolute so they decided to kill it instead of trying to fight back>new cosmic line was cancelled before it really ever begun>all their crossovers and events in the last 2-3+ years have been horrendous slop>sometimes the crossovers/events even go on at the same time, increasing reader fatigue>they put out a press release on their own damn website bragging that Daredevil l#1 sold 300k due to blind bags>Absolute is kicking marvel's ass>DC KO was stupid but it was aware that it was stupid and it was the kind of stupid that a lot of readers liked for some reason>DC is at least letting their mediocre mainline slop continue on to try to get its footing and audience instead of cancelling after 5 issuesGenuinely how can marvel recover reader goodwill??
>>153165823Both One World Under Doom & Empire failed now we have this Queen in Black nonsense to deal with. Give us time to breathe Marvel!
>how can marvel recover reader goodwill?By initiating a manhunt on editorial, when you kill the editor you get to decide what happens to the books he pretended to work on
drop the fucking mutlibook events already. People were tired of this by Fear Itself. Give us more shit like Uncanny X-Men thats just a small group in a setting thats not fucking new york. Absolute works not just because of the writing and its lack of decades of canon to have to write around but because they focus on a single hero doing, shocker, heroic things and that isn't always just beating the shit out of people unless theres no alternative left.Fuck when is the last time you saw a marvel hero try to de-escalate a situation by talking first and not just quipping while attacking someone?
>>153165823By dyoing the exact opposite of what /co/ wants. This strategy has worked very well for Amazon cartoons.
>>153166087>Fuck when is the last time you saw a marvel hero try to de-escalate a situation by talking first and not just quipping while attacking someone? When Harras was EiC.
>>153166087>Fuck when is the last time you saw a marvel hero try to de-escalate a situation by talking first and not just quipping while attacking someone?Quite a lot, often to the detriment of the book, I remember there was a phase of time where every villain got talku no jitsued half way through the big climactic fight
>>153165823Hopefully into bankruptcy.
>>153165823Cebulski, Brevoort and Lowe need to go
>>153165823wow this is my first time seeing a pic of hickman.
>>153165823How much are they paying Hickman to stick around? Didn't he say when he was writing X-Men that the only Big 2 stuff he wanted to write after was at DC?
>>153166541He looks different than I expected but dunno what he should be instead.
>>153166596They've fucked him over twice with X-Men and Ultimate Spider-Man and he keeps coming back so probably a lot, even if GODS and Imperial War flopped.
>>153165823>>DC KO was stupid but it was aware that it was stupid and it was the kind of stupid that a lot of readers liked for some reasonthe term you’re looking for is “camp”
>>153166087it seems armageddon has no tie ins beyond capqueen in black has a lot tho, par the course for marvel
>>153165823>last 12-18 months have been an outright humiliation ritual*last 12-18 years
>>153166087>when is the last time you saw a marvel hero try to de-escalate a situation by talking first and not just quipping while attacking someone? It happened in the latest Dr. Strange book and it fucking sucked because it could’ve been a really good fight but they just skimmed over it to shove more Angela down the audience’s throats
It's just been odd how they've used or misused Hickman. A nuke in the age of jobber writers and they're almost ashamed to have him.
>>153167085He's either too successful and they want to milk his ideas for longer than he wanted or his ideas are so grand marvel has difficulties pulling them off in today's sales climate
>>153166599You probably thought he's be bald/balding like 80% of other comic writers.
NO ENDINGS
>>153167085This is why Hickman is trying to peace out of marvel and trying to move to DC or Image
>>DC is at least letting their mediocre mainline slop continue on to try to get its footing and audience instead of cancelling after 5 issuesContinuing to publish bad books is not good actually.Cancelling underperforming books is good actually. This is how the manga industry works. This is how Jim Shooter's Marvel worked, where they cancelled books that sold less than 125,000 copies a month (with a handful of special exceptions) even though the break-even was 85,000 because "slightly better than break-even" just wasn't good enough unless there was something particularly special about it that made it worth publishing.Cracking the whip like this is how they can turn things around. It's up to them to get better, make books that are interesting enough to not get cancelled after 5-10 issues.
>>153167191>they want to milk his ideas for longer than he wanted or his ideas are so grand marvel has difficulties pulling them off in today's sales climatesomehow its actually both
>>153168066>Continuing to publish bad books is not good actually. What bad books are you referring to? Because DC keeps a volume going and doesn't restart ever 5-10 issues but they have new writers + new status quos for easy jumping on points. They're using post KO to launch "Act 2 of ALL IN" and "Next Level"Emperor Aquaman retitle, Green Lantern now stars Kyle, Flash has a new writer, Nightwing has a new artist, Reign of the Superboys, plus the launches for Lobo, Batwoman, Deathstroke, Deadman, etc. These are ostensibly new chapters/new jumping on points even if it doesn't say #1 in the upper lefthand corner
>>153168066Most of their mainline shit isn't even bad, they're just bland and mediocre.King's Wonder Woman is probably their worst book, followed by Harley and Catwoman. Spurrier's Flash and Layman's Titans were pretty bad but the former's been replaced by a bland and safe North and Brombal's first Titans issue was too busy satirizing the franchise to really do anything so jury's still out on that one.In comparison most of Marvel's output is just genuinely horrendous and unreadable. Each major group of books (avenger, X-Men, Spider) have like maybe 1-3 readable books with the rest being outright shit.
