Why wasn't the main Nick channel too fond of shows with adult protagonists? They even went on record before saying they preferred having kids as the main characters.
>>153166437Idiot executives can’t wrap their heads around the concept of children enjoying cartoons with adult main characters because they think kids are idiots who need idiot kid characters to relate to.Fuckers, I didn’t want to watch a kid be a Real Ghostbuster, I wanted to grow up to BE a Real Ghostbuster!
What would you consider Catdog to be?
It is strange if you also remember how Spongebob to be a (very immature and strange) adult.
>>153166437Ren & Stimpy, Rocko, Catdog and Spongebob all have adult protagonists
>>153166437>>153166487Fun fact, executives thought Power Rangers would fail, because they believed kids wouldn't want too see teenagers ad protagonists.
>>153166573yeah but nick wanted a lot of changes like having spongebob live with his parents and go to school, which they had to compromise on by making it be the boating school
>>153166617and even then, Nick preferred Doug to Rocko and Ren and Stimpy in the sense that unless one had the Nicktoons channel, Rocko and Ren and Stimpy stopped rerunning regularly before Doug did. They also preferred Wild Thornberrys, Hey Arnold and Rocket Power over Angry Beavers. The only reason Nick seemed to like CatDog was because someone at the network was pushing really hard for it to be a huge merchandising and ratings hit. >>153166676I don't believe that, because there's a ton of popular kids shows with teens as the protagonist. Just look at all the Disney Channel sitcoms that have aired over the years and even the Nick sitcoms too like Clarissa (which premiered before Power Rangers) and iCarly.
>>153166676They never said that kids wouldn't want teen protagonists, IIRC they thought it would flop due to the mix of Japanese and American footage looking weird or mismatched
>>153166437Because their branding was about being the first network for kids.
>>153166487execs are like the exact type of person and lifestyle who would leave their kids to get nannied in a fatherless upbringing, while the exec bangs secretary and sniffs blow off their arse
>>153166437So is there a reason Nick execs tended to prefer their shows about kids like Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Thornberrys and Rocket Power to their shows about adults like Ren and Stimpy (despite it initially being their biggest hit), Rocko, and Angry Beavers? I don't get it, especially since SpongeBob is their biggest hit ever and its about adults.
