How is the 80s Superman cartoon? I feel like it's not talked about much.

Anyone?

Didn't know this existed until now

No one talks about the 60s-80s dc shows other than Super Friends cuz they're kind of bland kiddie filler. They probably have their niche that will spurg here, but its not as big a during and post-DCAU DC animated stuff

I've mentioned it a few times and rather like it a lot. It's very in the spirit of the 78 movie.

I like it a lot, but for a cartoon that came out in 88 it really doesn't have much action.
It looks kewl because it's done by toei but supes doesn't really get to punch much so it's mostly just wresting.
It doesn't have many EPs and is heavily inspired by the movies but still is a nice show.
60s filmation Superman has a bit more action and 40s Fleischer Superman has a lot more if we're talking pre 90s stuff.

It is extremely strange that it exists and is from when its from and so few of us have seen it etc. A collective memory hole.
i guess the easy answer is it just never played on the teevee/was never syndicated after first airing? Had anyone ever just happened upon it as a wee lad changing channels?

I knew about it but never saw it due the local affiliate not showing it in favor of local programming. The same thing happened with Wildfire.

It's probably the first cartoon where the Byrne era stuff started to seep in. IIRC Marv Wolfman was involved with this.
>>
Never heard of it, feels like a mandela effect thing

As I recall there was one and only episode that had Japanese animation and it really stood out.
I enjoyed it when I watched it, it has a classic sparkly feel to it and the Family Album segments about Smallville were actually pretty funny.
My verdict: comfy shit.

>It's *that* special episode about Toyman and Cat Grant's kid
This one always freaked me out

>Byrne era stuff
It’s just Luthor being a tycoon which Marv Wolfman allegedly came up with, even though we think of it as a Byrne thing. Elliot S! Maggin claimed that idea was stolen from his Superman novels.

>I feel like it's not talked about much.

It's mainly because it lasted for one season and I think it maybe got reran once after but not enough that it would get an audience

If this show had been released in like 1986 or earlier, it might've gotten rerun a few times

It's basically a Sunbow Superman cartoon. I dont know why it's so obscure.
>>

It only really ran for it's one thirteen episode season. I forget the reason but they more or less set it up to die. Which is a shame. I found the family album segments charming.

It wasn't exactly stolen, but he did come up with Lexcorp before Byrne, but his characterization is basically just a more sour version of bronze/silver age Luthor, not Byrne/Wolfman's yuppie tycoon version of Lex Luthor, which is a major difference

Me neither, lmao. I’m assuming it came out too close to Batman:TAS and then got superseded by DCAU Superman
