Is Atlantis Science Fiction or Science Fantasy?
>>153197406Fantasy Fiction.
Historical fact.
>>153197441.......I guess!
>>153197406its HG wells/jules vernes type science fictionit has not-so-subtle references to 20,000 leagues under the sea
>>153199275I can tell. I still kinda like the film though.
>>153197406Both
Now I'm wondering how the Atlantis Cartoon would've played out.
>>153197406Science fiction, very much akin to early to mid 20th century pulpy sci-fi stuff.
>>153197406>>153201721Well apparently the Atlantis Cartoon would have crossed over with the Gargoyles Universe at some point. So magic would have definitely been a thing.
>>153202036Wasn't Greg Weisman part of Atlantis too?
>>153202036>>153202395Only for the tv show where the Praying Gargoyle from the season 2 finale of Gargoyles is revealed to be an Atlantean Artifact with Demona guest starring and the Hunter of the era pursuing her. Apparently also Kida knows about Garogyles and is deceived by Demona befor realizing the Hunter was right about her.
>>153202505Huh.I'm not really a fan those 2 universe's being in the same universe.
>>153202036The ancestral avatar and magic crystals didn't count?
>>153202505I do know the sequel was supposed to be a tv show. It shows.
>>153202036>So magic would have definitely been a thing.Did you not watch the movie?
>>153197406Pulp science ficiton. The difference between science fiction and science fantasy is that science fiction is interested in questions like "how does [technology] influence society? What would it be like to have [tecchnology]?" While science fantasy is only concerned with things like "what if we had fantasy but in space and with robots?" There is nothing wrong with either approach, they have different interests.Atlantis isn't science fantasy because while it is about Atlantis and magic crystals, it is concerned about the consequences of having those magic crystals both in Atlantian society as well as in the wider world. "What if the Kaiser had magic crystals?" is the main problem of the latter part of the film. And the first half of the film is pure science fiction, all about using early 20th century tools to solve various problems encountered by the expedition.
>>153197406Science Science.
>>153197406Yes.
>>153206190Apparently they recorded 20+ episodes before production was shut down.
>>153197406I liked the sequel that was just a bunch of failed pilote episodes
>>153201721Probably something similar to Hellboy.
>>153208194I fucking hate Disney, release the damn show.
>>153197406I honestly don't remember, do the Atlantians use magic or is it a case of>Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. If it's straight magic, then it's fantasy, if not it's science fiction.
>>153208898Both, it's magi-tech essentially.
>>153202505That's a pretty weird crossover, not gonna lie. Jackie Chan's adventure would fit Gargoyles better IMO.
>>153197406It's Haggardesque
>>153197406Science Fiction Fantasy.
>>153201721>>153202036>Atlantis Cartoon
>>153211142Cute
>>153206539See that's the thing, its never stated that it's magic, just a power source. Remember that whole "Tech so advanced its akin to magic" thing? Yeah, we never got a full on definitive I think.
>>153197406yes
>>153204744Atlantean science we don't understand
>>153211142Good show.
>>153211142One of these someone should draw Helga dresses as Grandis and Vinny and Mole as her 2 henchmen. Its long overdue.
>>153214255Yeah?
>>153211125A largely unexplored genre. Atlantis deserved to grow into a bigger franchise for that alone. Screw Disney.
>>153219290It's crazy how Milo would either get praised as 'positive masculinity' or shat on as a 'incel fantasy' with no in-between.
>>153219530He may be a skinny and awkward guy but he's not entirely cowardly.
>>153220655Dudes got guts he just can’t physically back it up. He was ready to fist fight Rorkue even though he probably knew he’d get thrashed
