After years of seeing people talk about how bad the ending was I decided to finally finish Star Vs and...it's fine. It didn't blow me away or anything but it's hardly the dumpster fire it's been built up as.
>>153200992Manna
Marco deserved happiness not this whore chud
>>153200992weird to think that SVTFOE was part of my young adult life. That it was even referenced in Monster Prom 1 with the Marco being in his thirties technically and it being weird that he's dating Star.
>>153201045He shoulda dated someone closer to his real age
>>153200992Well have you considered that you watch a show decline in like a week vs someone who watched it over the course of a few years?
>>153200992This. So much this. It's refreshing to see someone else say it. Always been bewildered by the sheer level of hate for the ending, considering. And before anyone says it, I know 'she killed billions' is like a meme ad a recurring joke, but isn't that in actuality BS if you pay attention/has been addressed by the creator and crewmembers that that's not what happened? IIRC it only killed beings of pure magic/that were created by Glossaryk, which are just her spell creatures and the Magic High Commission, other than that, any other being utilizing magic yet not entirely composed of it would just lose their magical abilities, not be killed. So critics could sincerely say she killed the MHC and her spell beings, but the 'killed millions/billions/trillions' claims seem to be at best a tongue-in-cheek joke and at worst a fundamental misunderstanding of what actually happened in 'Cleaved'.
>>153201856(Should also mention that a large part of it, at least initially, is due to the sheer coincidence of SVTFOE and Game of Thrones ending on the exact same night. So tons of people actually watched them back-to-back. Leading to relentless memes of 'Holy shit they have THE SAME ENDING' and 'Wow the worst ending in history to both a live action series and an animated series happened on the exact same night'. Just that coincidence alone and the resulting memes greatly helped completely sour the public perception of the Star VS finale.)
>>153201027>MannaFor me, it's her.I love her so much, bros..
Jackie deserved better
She killed billions
>>153202227>filename Uh oh
>>153201964>>153202227It downright feels a lot of the time like the reason most people don't like the show or otherwise don't remember it fondly is entirely because of memes, which is a shame.
>>153200992The "we have to destroy magic" plan that Star came up with came out of literally nowhere in the last couple episodes with no meaningful buildup or foreshadowing before that moment. The way it was framed when it came up, it seemed like it would be one of Star's impulsive ideas she'd be talked out of, but then the other characters just unquestioningly went along with it. It was a bullshit plot point that gets dumber the more you think about it, and it shows that the writers had written themselves into a corner and had to come up with a nonsensical asspull to provide a sense of dramatic tension for the ending. It was a bad way to end the series and it gets shit on rightfully, even without involving the "Star committed genocide" meme.
>>153202134mexi-flip is a kino pairing.
>>153200992Destroying the magic is a metaphor for growing up, people got mad about it because media literacy is dead.
>>153202560It's a shitty metaphor that doesn't work when you put more than two seconds of thought into it.
>>153201063Eclipsa is only interested in Big Monster Cock
>>153202787surely
>>153202867>> No Urotsukidouji style comix involving her
>>153201856We dont even get confirmation that Hekkapoo dies.>>153202313Its rushed significantly I won't disagree. I wish there were more seeds of it prior to them deciding it was the only solution. But given the circumstance destroying the source of magic is a decision that makes sense.
>>153202484I genuinely thought it was gonna be revealed at the end that Janna was in love with Marco. She always seemed weirdly obsessed with the guy. I just assumed it was because she had a huge crush.
>>153202867>has spade symbols on her face>her defining character trait is being romantically involved with creatures that are a ham-fisted metaphor for ethnic minoritiesWhat did Nefcy mean by this?
>>153202560Stfu
>>153201856Some dimensions relied on dimensional travel to function. Some people had friends or family who lived outside of theirs. Do the math.
>>153200992The thing about the ending of Star is that it's a mostly incoherent mess. And "killing" a whole race of characters just to save another race really defeats the message doesn't it? I feel like magic itself was originally more linked to the monsters and we were to find that out through Ludo, Toffee, Eclipsa, etc... but instead we just got a slog of relatively uninteresting shipping episodes. I struggle to think of a single memorable episode where the first and second season had quite a few of them. Also, another annoying change is that they really stayed off of Earth in season 3 and 4, and the show lost its comfy "Springtime in Cali" feel. The Jackie breakup episode was probably the last time the show had this and it's coincidentally mine and other people's last real memory of the show. It just feel into the pits after that, though the lore with some of the queens was interesting. Mewni itself was just wholly uninteresting and not very well developed.
>>153203034Also, the fact that the Earth and Mewni dimensions got merged out of nowhere feels like they knew the end to dimensional travel was a big deal and they had to come up with some bullshit way that it wouldn't negatively impact the main characters.
>>153200992I feel like I've seen this thread like ten different times at this point. Almost like it's the same person just trying to force discussion on a long dead show or something.
>>153203034>>153203168I thought Glosserick's vague idea that the magic will work out a solution kinda implied that other dimensions, not just Mewni and earth were probably fused.
>>153203155Pic made me remember how they redeemed Solaria while demonizing Mina; completely ignoring how it was previously established that the Solarian warrior spell completely fucks up people brains and gets rid of their conscience. Or how Solaria was the most racist bitch alive and is singlehandedly the reason why the war even got that bad in the first place because she stepped all over her brother attempts at a peaceful outcomeAll because she found out her granddaughter is a half-monstergod what a shitshow
>>153203155Having read the queen lore, I hated that none of it mattered in the end. Solaria accepting Meteora with no struggle at all while condemning Mina was hard to watch.
>>153202955That would actually be sensible
>>153203155It was super retarded too. The knights wanted the monsters out of Mewni. Star has interdimensional travel. Just move them elsewhere and both parties are happy?> NO BUT THE MONSTERS LOSE THEIR HOMELANDS!!They lose them in the ending that we got already with the merger.
>>153202955>I just assumed it was because she had a huge crush. It was. That much was obvious. I don't think it needed to be directly stated at the end because he/everyone already knew. One of the last things she says to him is to call her when he and Star get a divorce. Lol.I do agree though that she should have kissed him or something in that final scene they have together just before he runs to Star.
>>153203616>One of the last things she says to him is to call her when he and Star get a divorce.Anon that was in season 2 after he scored with Jackie
>>153200992this show feels like it came out yesterday but when it came out life was good and now im homeless shooting dope
>>153203437>send monsters to alt dimension Mewni with no Mewmans>tell MHC to restrict travel between Mewni and that dimension>conflict endedMagic can do anything, but most queens use it like a caveman uses a sharp rock.
>>153202955>>153203616>I do agree though that she should have kissed him or something in that final scene they have together just before he runs to Star. This should have happened. Exactly this.
>>153203745sorry to hear that, anon
>>153203745Dang. The ending hit you that hard, huh?
>>153200992The ending really was just that shit. You have to keep in mind we had been watching it for years, we were far more invested in it than you are.
>>153203800The mewnians knights already couldn't do dimension travel on their own (and they had no reason to chase after) so the plan is even simpler, but yes.
>>153201027>>153202955>>153203801I strongly feel like Marco and her should have at least had a fling. Particularly because the exact opportunity and place to do so already exists in the story, the 'Breakup Buddies' arc that Marco had with Kelly. If Janna were his Breakup Buddy and rebound instead of Kelly, I think that'd have been a major upgrade in the narrative, and even the more obvious choice considering like the Anon said there was already an established history of her liking him and hitting on him. Kellco kind of just comes out of nowhere and spur of the moment, I mean I like it for was it is and it was cute and enjoyable to watch, but a Manna fling would have been a million times better.
>>153202227>Commits genocide.>Proceed to look at you like this.
>>153204242Nah. Love me some Manna but Janna not being involved in any love drama was a blessing in disguise
>>153203292Solaria really was the worst person in the show's lore. Pretty much everything she did was shit
do you think the rumored new Svtfoe takeover and tiny shorts could make fun of the series defects and bad finale while still acknowledging the good things the series had?
>>153200992>Finally a star vs. thread.>I literally go into the army tomorrow. It's not fair. I want to draw Eclipsa some more.
>>153205098she's royalty, genocide turns her on.
>>153203168>the Earth and Mewni dimensions got merged out of nowhereReminder that this was a longstanding fan scenario representing an apocalyptic bad future. More monsters probably died in the first minute after the merge than Mina would have threatened.
>>153200992Star sacrificed her peoples tradition for social justice, its fucking retarded. She also killed more people than there are protons in our universe by erasing magic at the multiversal scale.
>>153206471>She also killed more people than there are protons in our universe by erasing magic at the multiversal scale.didnt happen
>>153207116It's weird how a lot of people these days deny what happens explicitly on-screen because they don't like basic, obvious implications. The Anne Boonchuy cloning is another one. Is it that both that and the genocide came out of nowhere right at the end of the series, so expectations were violated in a way that can't be retconned later?
>>153207487Exactly.
so any one a have stuff form the star vs booru?
>>153207729>so any one a have stuff form the star vs booru?I saved a lot before it went down. In general a lot of stuff that was on there is spread out across the various still existing boorus though. Honestly the main bulk of the stuff that got 'lost' was the SFW stuff, since sites like Paheal and most major boorus are exclusively for lewds, that stuff wasn't really uploaded anywhere else other than where it was originally posted.
>>153207807SFW stuff is what i was looking for. Thanks none the less
The ending is still far and away the worst one for a 2010's show. Out of all the ways you could've wrapped things up, why go with removing any kind of spin-off potential?
Ending was fine liked every character except Star >also moon was wasted
>>153207874iirc Nefcy admitted they were caught on the backfoot when Disney gave them more seasons. No matter what the writers may say now, it was obvious that they were tired of the show by the end. I feel like depressed, suicidal Hekapoo just wanting it all to be over and disappear at the end was their mouthpiece.
>>153208006I need Eclipsa in a swimsuit.
>>153202227I mean, she has for me. Just not in the way that you're talking about.>>153202560It doesn't work because Magic itself was never shown to be the problem. Mina was stuck in the past when Star was trying to stop monsters and Mewmans from beefing finally. It would be different if it was a last resort that we see them get forced into doing, but it isn't.Also Moon suddenly being a traitor was incredibly fucking stupid.
>>153206471How and who did she kill? Outside of the magic council who are made of pure magic (basically living spells) and Glossorick it feels like nobody else died? Where does the "she killed billions" thing come from? Like Princess Ponyhead is a magical pony and she's fine. So is Tom and he's a literal demon. So it seems like for the most part everyone's fine.
>>153209375>Where does the "she killed billions" thing come from? The body count in Los Angeles in the first day would easily be in the thousands. Global economic disruption on Earth (if the situation in Los Angeles is typical) means that billions would die within a year. Global economic disruption on every inhabited world in existence would be rather more. Star is likely vying with Tarkin (~3 billion on Alderaan) for the #2 body count in Disney properties behind Thanos.
>>153209375>Where does the "she killed billions" thing come from?Exaggeration but also offscreen implications of Star destroying all magic. IIRC the creator did clear up that it wasnt the case on a reddit AMA, but the damage was already done. There's also the collateral from fusing dimensions together. It'd be one thing if it was a end to a Season with another one coming, but as an end to a show, there are a lot of implications
>>153209373Gerph made a big titty star? Nice.
>>153209719>IIRC the creator did clear up that it wasnt the case on a reddit AMAAs something not in the show or other branded property, this is of course not canon.
>>153209624>>153209719It's a work of fiction. It's not real life. Saying basically 'well if this were done in real life, this would certainly happen, and it would kill billions' doesn't mean shit if in this fictional story the creator/writers just say in this case in the story it didn't kill billions. It's like looking at those classic Superman comics where he messes with the rotation of the Earth to stop a supervillain and saying like 'Do you have any idea what doing that to the Earth would cause? The natural disasters, the tides, the toppled cities. By doing that Superman just killed billions.' And being sincere and acting like the comic writers meant to imply that.
>>153209375>So it seems like for the most part everyone's fine. That's what's so annoying is that it's just a meme but a shocking amount of people seem to take it completely at face value. It's like people saying 'Jack could have fit on the door with Rose. What a fuckin dumb ending. That's why I don't like Titanic.'
>>153209935obviously it's fiction but based on how the setting worked it's extremely obvious that no real thought was put into what ending magic and then merging a dimension actually meant. Just from a logistics standpoint the complete loss of magic would be devastating. The author can word of god it til the cows come how but it won't stop the memes
>>153200992I also think that the plot of our world would be well-concluded by launching nuclear missiles at everyone.
>>153209935>Saying basically 'well if this were done in real life, this would certainly happen, and it would kill billions' doesn't mean shit if in this fictional storyIn order for fiction to have stakes that real people can understand, it has to operate like real life in some ways. So when we see monsters threatened with harm by Mina, we are supposed to interpret that as being a risk to their lives. And when we see people and monsters threatened with harm from a dimensional merge, that same reasoning would suggest that they're under risk to their lives. And unlike with Mina, the show just ends with monsters rampaging around Los Angeles with viewers left to draw their own conclusions about what happens next (this is a scenario which had already been explored in fanfiction). And we do see the corpses of the Magic High Commission, as well as flesh melting off unicorns to leave skeletons.>if in this fictional story the creator/writers just say in this case in the story it didn't kill billions.Saying this IN THE STORY ITSELF is one thing. Saying it personally on third-party media after they no longer work for the company that owns the media is another.>It's like looking at those classic Superman comics where he messes with the rotation of the Earth to stop a supervillain Except we can see later installments of these comics where disasters like that did not in fact happen.>And being sincere and acting like the comic writers meant to imply that.We had multiple episodes treating the living spells as people with their own lives and activities. We also had shots of monsters rampaging around Los Angeles. Those weren't accidents.
>>153209935When Brainiac shrunk the city of Kandor to microscopic size, if you applied real world logic and physics to it you'd say "Well he just actually killed all those people. Because theoretically if humans were shrunk to that size oxygen molecules would now be too large for their hemoglobin to take in and they'd all immediately suffocate. So by doing that he's killing them, he just killed an entire civilization."But no one's doing that, because in the story it just didn't, and people just accept that, yet they don't accept that in the case of SVTFOE.
>>153200992It's pretty retarded honestly. It didn't blow me away either but I still knew instantly it was shit.
>>153207487The Anne whos a reptile scientist is a copy of the real Anne thats a god
>>153210267Herpetologist Anne was the one who got the job offer. Anne 1 did not appear after crumbling to dust and blowing away.
>>153210267>The Anne whos a reptile scientist is a copy of the real Anne thats a godIt's kind of like the Star Trek thing, where every time someone uses a transporter it's actually killing them and what appears on the other end of the transport is actually a copy. And you're just not supposed to think about it. Haha.
>>153210199>yet they don't accept that in the case of SVTFOE.Because there's no continuation of the story which shows that the reasonably expected consequences of events in the story did not actually occur. And in the case of Kandor, Brainiac did that specifically to preserve the city and its people, with the implication that he had the technology (or magic or whatever) needed to make it work.
>>153210293Not exactly. It's specifically pointed out in the show, and Anne mentions she'll probably think about it later.
>>153210293>And you're just not supposed to think about it. Haha.Anne did say it'll probably cause an existential crisis later on in her life.
>>153207874>>153210200I can totally accept the view that it's a bad/dumb/poorly written ending. But I tend to think the seemingly common view that it may be the worst ending to an animated series ever and that it makes Star one of the most villainous characters ever is somewhat silly and hyperbolic.
>>153210337Yeah my bad I was mainly referring to the case of Star Trek tech. You're right that when you call attention to it and you're meant to address that aspect then it becomes an issue.
>>153210349well barring some kind of reset button it did kinda irreparably wreck the setting in a way that's not often seen and Star is an insanely selfish and shortsighted person in general which on the wrong day can seem kinda villainous. It's a case of unintentional stuff and expected consequences stacking up
>>153210440>which on the wrong day can seem kinda villainous.Keep in mind that Star destroyed her dynasty and her kingdom.
>>153210367>I was mainly referring to the case of Star Trek techAnd despite the usual practice of glossing over it, it does come up often enough to be clear that it really is killing the original and building a replacement.
>>153208041>I feel like depressed, suicidal Hekapoo just wanting it all to be over and disappear at the end was their mouthpiece. Why was she so ok with it, anyway? It's fully implied to have killed her, right?Hekapoo is a case where I think she was particularly underutilized. I think she should have had a much more obvious and pronounced kinship with Marco. Since he has literally known her for 15 years, it stands to reason she knows him better than anyone and in key ways would be closer to him than anyone. After all their time together in the Neverzone I feel like she could have been like a mentor to him, she's a wise old demigoddess, she could be who he goes to for advice, his muse, someone who he understands knows far more about the worlds and magic and the nature of all things than he ever could and he relies on her for that. There is particularly that one scene where Marco spills his heart to Eclipsa about Star, and she gives him advice and a pep talk, I have always *strongly* believed at very least that scene should have instead been between him and Hekapoo. If he were going to unload his feelings and seek advice like that from any adult, it by all means 1000% would be Hekapoo, probably while they regularly meet up and drink together at the Tavern, as it showed they do.
>>153210528>And despite the usual practice of glossing over it, it does come up often enough to be clear that it really is killing the original and building a replacement.IIRC there is also that early TNG episode where Pulaski is being killed by some virus or something and Picard is just like well we have her transporter backup in the computer, let's just replace her with it and then she'll be fine. And it's like um, what, if you can do that then why don't you just do that all the time?
>>153210615>It's fully implied to have killed her, right?Yep. The other High Commission members' corpses were shown on screen.>Why was she so ok with it, anyway? Keep in mind that time is greatly accelerated in her dimension. She's subjectively billions of years old, even ignoring clone memories. She spent most of her existence devoted to her job, and that was enough for her. But when she sent an upstart on a wild goose chase, and he actually succeeded, she found a reason to live rather than just exist, and someone she cared about in a way that gave her life meaning beyond duty. So she let him go live his own life, and saw him every few thousand years for a shared adventure, and that was enough. But Marco couldn't commit to even those brief times, so that stopped. Hekapoo couldn't go back to her previous existence, so she tried to find similar relationships with other people, chasing superficial trappings of what she had with Marco. When that fell through too, she lost hope of regaining what she had, and by the later part of the show she's about ready to give up on her job too and check out. And so she grabbed the only people who still mattered to her, took them to the edge of the universe, and convinced them to destroy magic. Hekapoo's arc is one of the darkest parts of the show.
