I got the feeling Smiling Friends would be ending soon after seeing that episode with the mole man who's obsessed with the Smiling Friends and knows all their daily habits. That seemed less kooky or playful and more like they were hinting that this show was becoming too routine and too predictable for them, as if the format of the show itself was trapping them. They're both paranoid about not wanting to have this be "their show" forever like Matt and Trey with South Park.
