It’s a solid rough draft of a movie but they need to trim the over the top dialogue, extend the epilogue, and some other small tweaks.As for the plot itself I’m not saying they took the wrong approach but ultimately they could have simply made a 2 hour slice of life and people would’ve eaten it up. Avatar was known for its organic and unique plot structure whereas here it’s a plain 3 act big bad. I wish the did a little more but I suppose a “little more” can be done in the next movie. I still appreciate the characters here as much as I did back then even if the VAs were subpar.

Movies overall okay, works a lot better if you see it as an Aang movie with Katara as a major supporting character and the rest as side characters rather than a real ensemble piece. The weakest aspect is Taga and the Denied, they just feel like reheating the Nachos of all 4 Korra villains and smashing them together, Taga is very well voiced tho. Early Republic City is pretty damn cool.

Guess he didn't have time to think but he used his bending way more creatively as a kid than he does at any point during the film. Speaking of the Denied, they were terribly underdeveloped and basically just exist to give the team someone to fight at the end. I don't think we ever learn any of their names. Though it is funny to know now that there was some extreme non-bender resentment building globally back when Aang was still pretty young and he did jack shit about it. I also don't think he should've needed the magic staff, especially since he already learned spirit bending which conveniently never comes up. I guess if he could grant people bending as well as take it away it would completely undermine the plot of the film and would bring up lots of questions as to why he didn't do that prior to Korras time. Still, you'd think that if he thought that was a good idea AND already fucked with someone's bending in dealing with Ozai he might try to learn how to bestow airbending on people on his own? On the whole, it's fine. Lots of nice looking action but writing wise it was, so so. If it was a standalone film that didn't have the series backing it I think it would have been a lot more underwhelming.
