With the film being leaks and the general consensus being that the plot is "ehh" at best, the question is now:>How would you have done it?Lets say that Bryke reached out to you specifically, /co/, to give you free reign to write an Avatar film with the Gaang as adults and that serves as a follow-up to the original series. How would you go about it?For added challenge to this, I have two rules:>While the comics are fair game to ignore, Korra is notSelf explanatory. While you are perfectly within your right to (and personally I advise that you) completely disregard and decanonize the comics, The Legend of Korra in it's current form must remain in continuity to whatever you write. Now, this doesn't mean things from Korra or things that lead into the stuff in Korra is required, but ideally nothing in what you write should directly contradict anything that happens in Korra (or at least not to the extent that it can't just be handwaved away)>Be realistic with what you includeThis is less a rule and more a guideline, and you're more than free to disregard it, but do at least try to come up with something that realistically could be approved by both Bryke and Paramount/whatever studio picks it up in this scenarioOther than that, no restrictions
>>153219998Finding Zuko's mom movie. Actually follow up the main hanging plot thread
>>153220028>Finding Zuko's mom movie.Lame.
>>153220028His mom went to bang her childhood friend.
>>153219998I wouldn't do anything. Because there is no reason to continue this series after it came to an end other than money.
>>153220028This with Azula, Mai and Ty Lee as major characters
>>153220130Me (30yo) banging azula (14yo)
>>153220130After everything that went down with Mai in the comics it's probably best she and Azula never interact anymore.
>>153219998Have it deal more with the rebuilding of the new world and Republic City. Ground the story with these new older versions of established characters. Maybe have them dealing with a group of Ozai sympathizers who still believe in Fire Nation supremacy or hell you have the non-benders from this movie which you can do the non-bender villains and just not fuck it up this time in the final hour like Korra did. We really didn't need an out of nowhere doomsday villain thats completely detached from the rest of the world.
>>153220083I mean Anon's not wrong, that should have been followed up around the time because the fact you leave a series on such a cliffhanger in having to wait for years in some comic which tv show watchers probably wouldn't know about at all to check unless they searched around in rewatching the show again years later. That said the resolution to it was frankly pretty lame won't lie. Real underwhelming conclusion. Should have just had her dead as people rightfully thought so given who Ozai is as to make things hush hush surrounding his father's "passing" as both the audience and Zuko initially thought back then if you're not going to deliver a good follow through plotline.
>>153220028This and something with Azula.I honestly don't feel like she got a fair shot in the show.
>>153220193Seriously again why the actual fuck would Ozai let her go alive when she could have told another living soul what she had done under the ultimatum he gave her in poisoning his father for the throne? Just sloppy writing.
>>153220182I didn’t read the comics but sure whether you want to write them together or apart, whatever works I’m talking about those character arcs being good material for another act like Zuko’s mom.
>>153220345While I agree its out of character for Ozai you could also argue it be pointless because who cares if she talks? Who would believe her and if they did what are they gonna do? Ozai's firelord and Iroh is the only person alive who could stand up to him and Iroh was in no shape to do it at that point.
>>153220396Even if Iroh was grieving, the Fire Nation is built on honor and lineage. A former Princess (and granddaughter of Avatar Roku) claiming the Fire Lord is a usurper or that the lineage is tainted is a PR nightmare. Ozai doesn't seem the type that would "hope" that no one would believe her, his thought to be dead consort of all people coming from at worse and at best just having it come from another source with her being the origin but coming around as a rumor in the Fire Nation.Ozai has everything to lose from it. And the man is vindictive as he wasn't pleased by the fact Ursa had done letters as a way to hurt him in trying to use that Zuko isn't his son. Him also not taking the risk would be calculated in seeing in part where Azula got her smarts from because else wise he just doesn't seem to at all throughout the show's run showcase any of Azula's smarts and just the brutality simply.
>>153219998Considering Korra is canon, having any story that revolves around the fate/restoration of the Airbenders and anything that puts the team Avatar in peril is downright stupid. This should have be a story about character development. Fill in gaps in 'history'. What happened to Azula? How did Iroh die? Have it be about Aang's struggle with transitioning from a "wartime" Avatar to a "peacetime" Avatar, have the world struggle with the transition too."Everything was mostly fine until this random guy showed up" is a dumb conflict. Especially because we know now that The Denied wouldn't have even been able to get close to the staff.
>>153219998take comics out of canon like Disney did with old Star Wars's and I could tolerate Korra while writing this movie
>>153219998>ehhi liked it, it was good movie
>>153219998I can’t give direct solutions, but the issues with the film are pretty clear. The core conflict of the story should have been important and personal to all members of the avatar gang. This is a aang story, but it’s one focused on plot points that are borderline straight copies from LOK, both in villain and in themes. It has an ending with no lasting consequences or effect on the world. It’s just a beautifully animated side quest, where 4/5 aang gang have nothing to do.
Let me just remind you guys for a moment that in Korra episode 1, Katara is asked by one of her granddaughters what happened to Zuko's mother, and she responds "Well, it's an incredible tale" before getting cut off.
I have to say I really liked the movie. The only thing I would’ve changed is the final fight, where Aang defeats the monster as a normal human in the Avatar State using pure bending. I’m done with giant magical spirits.ps: katara sexo
>>153220028100% there should've been a sequel focused on Ursa, and Azula too. At this point I don't care about Avatar anymore, and it's sad. I was the biggest ATLA fan, but I can't bring myself to watch this movie or any future Avatar project. I have no trust in this franchise anymore.
>Azula breaks free >Rescues her dad>Separatist fire nation cell tries to put him back in power>Terrorist attacks and shit>Forty minutes of shenanigans as the Avatar team tries to stop them>Azula eventually gets rid of her dad after he goes too far insulting or or blaming her for his own failure>Zuko redeems her after a final fight>Credits roll>Zuko and Azula leave to find their mother>Also Sokka bangs Toph to inspire r34 artists
>>153224393Still doesn't satisfy >>153223851
>>153219998More Mai
>>153224564It satisfies me wanting to see Toph get btfo by Sokka.
>>153219998Embrace ATLA's anime influences and make it feel like a fun filler movie.>aliens invade, we get Ultraman up in this bitch
>>153219998A trilogy>The Hunt: The Search + small timeskip to Azula's group attacking Zuko and Mai with the movie ending when they discover it's her (mask falls or something)>The Cold Flame: We discover Azula is releasing prisoners from many different prisons and forming an elite terrorist group. One of the first one she releases is Ozai. Their objective is simple: to kill every current world leader and put Ozai back in the throne of the Fire Nation. A masked guy they released says he knows a way to kill or at least neutralize the Avatar, Ozai is obviously interested. Azula eventually goes tarded like in the show and loses control of the group which results in Ozai humiliating her, treating her "like Zuko" and leaving with most of the members. She seems defeated, like she is almost giving up in life, which eventually causes her to go after Zuko by herself, knowing that he would be prepared and protected this time, almost in a suicidal move. In the mean time, Ozai's group succeeds in capturing Aang, also pregnant Katara couldn't do much. End of the movie is Zuko vs Azula fight, this time with a previously injured Zuko and a calmer suicidal Azula. Zuko is put in a situation where he starts thinking he might have to kill her but eventually finds a way of dealing with her without doing so, just like Aang. Movie ends with her in a cell and Zuko trying to speak to her while the Gaang reorganizes to look for Aang.
>>153229300>The Tragedy: Focused on Zuko trying to naruto Azula, looking for Aang and dealing with Ozai's group, which is even more organized and problematic because they don't target just leaders, if they have to hurt bystanders to advance their plans they will. Eventually it is discovered that they are trying to force Aang's avatar state by bending fine sand into his body, so they can kill him and end the avatar cycle, however Aang is able to bend some of the sand away, delaying the whole thing. Shit happens, they fight, Aang gets freed but too hurt to fight. Zuko releases Azula, she helps. Then Sokka, Suki, Zuko and Azula fight Ozai and the masked guy, eventually they (allegedly) kill him while the other dude flees but Sokka gets poisoned in the fight and dies by diarrhea. We timeskip to Sokka's funeral, then Azula getting visited by Zuko, Iroh and mom in what seems like a surveilled area of the palace. She seems a bit more accepting of their presence but not yet fully open. The movie then ends with the masked guy recruiting new members, he takes off his mask and we see it's Zaheer, they call themselves the Red Lotus.Ou algo.
>>153219998>>While the comics are fair game to ignore, Korra is notThis is why a lot of old franchises have multiverses or timeline splits Buddhism has different realms so I feel satisfied in doing it anyways. I just have a completely different view of a 20th century Avatar than what Korra gave us
>>153228027>Embrace ATLA's anime influences AtLA's main anime influence is Ghibli >and make it feel like a fun filler movie. That's kinda what this felt. This is some stuff that you don't hear about in Korra and if the movie did anything right, it did had a bit of an adventurous feel>>aliens invade, we get Ultraman up in this bitchnahand ultraman kaiju battles is basically what dark avatar shit is
>>153229346>I just have a completely different view of a 20th century Avatar than what Korra gave usfeel free to spill your spaghetti, i'll hear it
Is there an actual reason Aang had to break the staff? It seemed perfectly capable of making airbenders without the whole "connect it to the temple and go mad with spirit power" part. What if he just... didn't do that part of it?
>>153219998By not making it about the Gaang.>movie is about Jin as a member of the White Lotus>she's infiltrating a local Triad gang that has risen in Ba Sing Se>investigates a number of their collaborators, one of whom is revealed to be Azula>integrates herself to Azula -who is in disguise and under a false identity, of course- to find out what she's doing in Ba Sing Se>it turns out the former princess isn't plotting anything particularly nefarious. she's just broke as shit and needs money so she's pretending to be a high-class thug>it comes to light that the Triad gangs are just a symptom of a bigger problem... one actually caused by Iroh>the White Lotus was never intended to be the peacekeeping force he's been trying to make it into, but observers who gather knowledge as students of Wan Shi Tong>Iroh rallying the Masters and retaking Ba Sing Se revealed the Lotus to the world, and now there's an internal civil war within the organization between the purists and multiple other factions (such as the Red Lotus, who wish to use the knowledge of the WL to incite global change), some of whom are using the Triads as intermediaries to do their business without tipping their hands>Jin and Azula get their cover blown and have to fight back-to-back against armies of street toughs, corrupt police, and marital arts masters, forming a kung-fu broship along the way>Iroh joins them at the end for one last glorious battle against the head of the Red Lotus and his men>he reconciles with Azula, but dies (and goes to the spirit world)>Azula and Jin leave Ba Sing Se to have adventures and shitThe whole thing would just be one big love letter to old Bruce Lee Hong Kong chop socky films from the 1970s. Like 90% of the runtime just being balls-to-the-wall high octane kung-fu action.
>>153219998The issue with all Avatar media past the original series is that it doesn't expand on what made the setting or characters entertaining in the first place. Avatar only gotten to be as widely beloved as it is because its scenarios constantly offered new perspectives. By new I don't just mean different, but organic and layered enough so that everyone else is able to learn something new from it they couldn't before. The problem with this movie's conflict is that it's repeating a lot of plot-points already over with in TLA and Korra. The conflict isn't new even if the character and his story are different. In the world of TLA several years after the original show, there should be countless different ways to write new struggles that come with age and the changing state of the world. Just spitballing a few amateur examples here but non-benders forming their own ideology, "faction", and culture over that many years, with rising equity, could have offered something new. The formation of Republic City itself could have been its own story. So on and so forth. It just feels like they glossed over that to focus entirely on action for this movie if you ask me.
>>153229905Good excuse to make more airbenders the old fashion way with katara
>>153229597I wrote some wall of texts but felt it was too spergy. I'll make an ao3 or fanfic or whatever account one day so I can spew something out there.
Canon Suki NTRing Sokka.
>>153219998it's workable, but>just aang and katara, remove sokka/zuko/toph who don't do anything>remove the denied guys, since no longer needed (only there to give the side characters someone to fight)>no spirit world teleport, the bison are living on those island>aang being nerfed is dumb, so just make him unconscious and the final battle is katara vs taga>no glowing demon king super saiyan stuff>trim back the member berries to a single "my cabbages" during the final battle>aang awakens and basically talk-no-jitsus taga into destroying the staff>taga is "punished" with house arrest on temple island, basically becoming the first caretaker>end with katara giving birth or something, maybe it's years later and it's tenzin's birth
>>153230467>>aang being nerfed is dumb, so just make him unconscious and the final battle is katara vs taga>>aang awakens and basically talk-no-jitsus taga into destroying the staffyeah, it should have been like a more extreme version of the zuko vs katara fight during the siege of the north. like aang is off in the spirit world, trying to learn something about taga to actually do that talk-no-jitsu properly. and he's defenseless in the real world.
>>153219998>general consensusWhat general consensus? You're just pulling that out of your ass. Pic related, it's op's ass.If the movie was 10, maybe 20 minutes longer, they could have set a few things up better. The plot was good, it just needed a little time for one or two things to feel less contrived. 8/10, would watch again.
