Can't wait for this old fuck to kick the bucket so we can get a C&H movie by Illumination with Seth Rogen as Hobbes
This is me after I find you
>>153229726It's never going to happen
>>153229726I'd be funny to watch Watterson rise from the grave and burn Hollywood down for that.
>>153229726An Illumination movie featuring a six-year old bitching about the state of America? Really?
>>153229726Won't happen, Bill has put in his will that no one can ever make a cartoon based on his characters or utilize them in any way.
>>153231119in 2100 nothing can stop them
A modern Calvin and Hobbes movie would be a travesty no matter who made it.The time for anything related for Calvin and Hobbes to have been made would've been when the strip was still running since Watterson was a fan of classic animation, and might've still been able to be convinced to let something happen along those lines. So that being said, who would you have liked to have seen work on a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon in that time period? Personally my pick would've been Ralph Bakshi since he worked on one of the Dr. Seuss TV specials, a format that I think would fit Calvin and Hobbes better than a full blown movie or full series. He's an excellent animator, and I think his cynical edge that tends to bleed into his projects would actually fit the general tone of Calvin and Hobbes very well (Wizards honestly looks like something Calvin might imagine.
Kazu Kibuishi's Calvin-And-Hobbes-esque side strip from the Amulet days, Copper, is the superior comic to the original Calvin And Hobbes. Despite being nowhere near a fraction as long-running, it's better in every way that matters and had a much greater influence on me.Copper and Fred kind of have an inverted dynamic to Calvin and Hobbes, where the kid is the unflappably optimistic character and his animal sidekick is the paranoid, cynical one, but they're both really likeable. There's a ton of amazingly well-rendered environments and scenery that have the Ghibli quality of being fantastical and naturalistic without the accompanying moral crud and lack of intellect. Go buy the book if you can find it.
>>153231159Bold of you to assume that Illumination will still be a living studio in 2100EXTREMELY bold of you to assume Seth Rogen will still be alive in 2100
>>153231119I hope it stays that way. Calvin and Hobbes might be the one cartoon hit protected from unnecessary "franchise expansions." I like that it can just coast on its own as a completed work. That should be more common practice.
>>153231119>in his willLmao you really think that's going to stop them? Worst case scenario you get a bunch of internet articles crying about how the movie is disrespectful to Watterson's legacy during the leadup to release, only for the same sites to do a full 180 and write about how the movie actually does a great job portraying the characters and how (insert upbeat pop song written for the movie here) perfectly encapsulates the lighthearted spirit of the series once the movie actually releases and gets rave reviews because nobody gave a shit about the drama enough to vote with their wallets.
>>153231469This is awful.
>>153229726Is this the ONLY picture of him in existence??
>>153234303I know there's others, including a video but this is probably the most "high quality and iconic" one of him in existence. Honestly it's one thing for him to not want to continue Calvin and Hobbes but it's another just how secretive he is. Like think about it, are there any other /co/ creators that are as elusive as him. For all we know he could be dead right now but it might takes months for us to figure it out. I do know he recently made a book called "the mysteries"
>>153231225I could see it being adapted into a show that aired on a long forgotten tv network block. Animated by rough draft studios and cancelled after one or two seasons.
>>153234459He likes his privacy. He also apparently still talks to some cartoonist friends, so one of them would probably say something if he passed on.
>>153229726Kill your self
>>153234459What a fine sweater he has on :)
>>153229726You'll be drafted before then.
