Hanna-Barbera was quantity over quality for a sizable chunk of its history, along with a lot of "same shit different show (or straight up different talking animal)". How did it survive so long?Imagine if they focused on a few shows instead of releasing what seemed to be a new show every three months.
Half the time the "same shit different show" was the network's idea. Scooby-Doo is a hit? Do 15 like it. Have a hot live action series? Make an animated spinoff. And lets bring the Flintstones back every four or five years, since they pulled good ratings in 1960.And Joe Barbera just nodded his head, took the money and kept his studio afloat.

The most played out tired HB criticisms act like they forced these shows onto networks. Thats not how animation works in America. Artists aren't given grants from the government to take their time to develop a refined passion project. This isn't France.

>>153234839I was born in 77, and by the time cartoons from other companies started showing up I was tired to death of Hanna-Barbera shit. Ruby-Spears, and even Dic's inconsistent quality was a breath of fresh air.
