>You want physical media of our stuff? Well good luck with that you fat fuck lmao
>>
Warner Bros. finally won in something
>>
>>153235991

Literally their only win compared to Disney's, bastards couldn't make their own merch stores work.
>>
Lol my HDD with all of their classic movies in the original state is my physical medium
>>
>>153235977

Are we surprised when Disney's been know to being a dick when it comes to physical media

>>
>>153235977
Jizzney sucked at physical media even when it was profitable in the 90s and 2000s
>>153235991
Universal is also shockingly good at putting shit on Blu-ray. I think they and WB made a distribution company together.

Looney tunes jeans jackets aren't selling anymore?

Don't worry, we are 7 years away from the public domain starting to eat it all away.

>Target got rid of DVDs and Blu-rays
>Best Buy near me has as well
>FYE closed in my city
>Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Movie Stop all dead
>Less and less shows are getting series box sets and if they do they're either standard def only, have the worst menus imaginable or have massive mistakes throughout
The death of physical media is unironically depressing.
>>
>>153235977
My only regret is not getting the 2-disc dvd edition of Lilo & Stitch.
>>
>>153236120
Trademarks make the public domain pointless. Since Trademarks can be renewed forever.
>>
>>153235977
Yo ho
>>
>>153236160
Maybe, but you can release those movies in high quality, like it is already happened to Mickey shorts
>>
>>153235977
Marvel's entire Visual Development Team was also let go. Coupled with what you posted, a bit of speculation on my part: Disney is planning to cut down on the amount of original content they produce, and will instead seek to funnel people into subscribing to their streaming services where their library of content will rather be recycled than added to.
>>
>>153236231
>>153235977
Do they realize this is gonna lose them even more money?
>>
>>153236231
It is a really bad idea with the unfrozen American public domain, each year more movies are being put in YouTube for free.

And Walt's death's 70 years anniversary is on the horizon.
>>
>>153236231
Disney is going to double down on their theatrical cartoons and remakes because children and autistic adults will never stop giving them money for endless reboots and sequels to Zootopia, Toy Story, Frozen, Wreck-it-Ralph, Moana, Lilo & Stich, and Lion King.
>>
>>153236231
This is how Disney dies.
By giving up trying to remain relevant, trying to create new properties future generations will get into, but simply just putting the company on autopilot and only making a few sequels each year as they increasingly lose interest with nothing to replace it.
By the time new gens do not care about Frozen or Moana and they have to make something stick it will be too late, everyone will have moved onto different content from different companies. The potential of them not even making new content is a death sentence
>>
>>153236283
>>153236330
I wonder how long until it becomes an full brow IP crisis.
>>
>>153236330
Disney will never die because autists and children will continue to keep them afloat by going out to watch every single one of their shitty sequels and reboots.
>>
The entire US media industry seems strangely eager to encourage people to pirate all of their IPs. I guess they're banking on general technical illiteracy.
>>
>>153236149
Dollar Tree and Family Dollar still carry them. Go nuts while you can. Be sure to raid all the local thrift stores too.
>>153236160
Trademarks dont prevent redistribution. Some random guy a decade from now can just get a hold of a collector copy of Snow White on 48mm film, clean it up, and dump it on youtube if he wanted to.
>>

The communist insurrection of corporate america institutions = companies dying on niggerfaggot hill. They would rather die than ditch communist policy. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

CN/AS are fucking insane for this. Who's going to buy a DVD box set of Venture Bros? Anyone who wants something like that is going to hold off for a Blu Ray version.
And don't forget the Aqua Teen "complete series" box still not having Shake Like Me because of Fentanyl Floyd.

Selling Blu-Rays of the entire Disney catalogue can't possibly be making less money than their comic book division. What is going on?
>>

It's going to be a sad day when there's so many appealing movies in the public domain that Night of the Living Dead doesn't have the same kind of kitsch it had for being THE public domain movie. I even played a VN that had a part where you watch a movie with the girl, and it plays the entirety of NOTLD if you don't skip it.

My FYE closed years ago because the mall kept hiking up rent for retail space. Eventually, the only places that could afford the rent were sneaker stores, and then the mall died because they developed a crime problem having such a high concentration of stores that primarily sold basketball shoes, and all of their attempts to mitigate it (dress codes, no unaccompanied teens, closing earlier in the day) just got them called racist and scared off the shopping families.

If they were still the place with FYE, books-a-million, and the Disney Store, they'd be fine. Maybe not as profitable short term but fine.
>>
>>153236650
Oh you can bet your ass that Marvel comics is on the chopping block as well, the only reason they're keeping it going is because they need material to adapt for their movies. If the MCU shits the bed Marvel comics will be gutted as well outside of maybe Spiderman and Xmen.
>>
>>153236679
Walking through your old local mall feels like going to an old war reunion where you're one of the only guys left.
The Borders, KB Toys, Gamestop AND EB Games, Disney Store, all fucking gone.
>>
>>153236650
They likely want to kill physical media to focus on streaming
>>
>>153236705
I think they will pivot to licensing their character to other traditional book editorials. Marvel Arts is an example of them tiptoing the concept.

Why does this attempt to kill physical media by companies feel like it's gonna bite them in the ass long term?

There's a reason but I can't put my finger on it.

Warner Bros closed their online store last month

you can't even buy their old boxes of unsold The Dark Knight size M tshirts now, at least not from them, I'm sure somebody's squatting the domain already

>Told Shout Factory to fuck off when it came to produce more Gravity Falls complete series DVDs/Blu-Ray
>Disney Afternoon shows where starting to be part of Disney Movie Club before shut-down

They want to force you to subscribe to Disney+ to watch their shit.
>>
>>153236881
Death of cable.
Loss of passive revenue.
Streaming is a money sink.
The unfreezing of the public domain eating their catalog.
Rise of a new age of piracy.
Possible rise of new forms of watching these works, that aren't as monetized.
>>
>>153236120
People have been saying this for 60 years
Disney can modify copyright law indefinitely
>>
>>153236102
WB let the Looney Tunes IP fall into irrelevance in ways Disney never would allow Mickey Mouse and Goofy to fall into. Disney parks all over the world do a lot of heavy lifting keeping their old cartoons relevant in ways WB couldn't because the theme park rights for WB properties like Looney Tunes and DC, were tied to the sinking ship that was Six Flags. They only just recently got the rights to those back.
>>
>>153236944
They lost their political weight, Mickey of all characters, already entered the public domain.
>>
>>153236963
kind of crazy their only response to this was to merchandise the retro designs more instead of making something with the last living mickey mouse animators on earth
>>
>>153236963
Only the Steamboat Willy version, the Sorcerors Apprentice era Mickey onwards can still get you sued.
See also John Carter Of Mars being public domain but the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate suing anyone who tries to revive the IP without giving them a slice of the pie.
>>
>>153236987
They can't do anything else, and the Winnie-the-Pooh situation will get worse next year once he hits in the life + 70 years countries.
>>
>>153236963
Only the early versions of Mickey, and he still can't be called "Mickey" because of the trademark.
>>
>>153236149
I hate that the EEE complete series not only misses specials but the fucking series finale movie. The Regular Show set finally brought the whole series (and previously released film) to the states, but with UK censorship of thomas being from "druznia" and the discs themselves are stacked and come mangled, even the cover is like bootleg paper. They didn't even put a clean ending of the theme on the main menu, it has the cartoon network bumper shit at the end.

Just unbelievable garbage all around. The only people who got vindicated were the Ben 10 folk who bought it and realized it was missing 50-100 episodes so they made a big outcry and got re-releases.
>>
>>153237021
The trademark only affects the naming of a product. DC doesn't have the "Captain Marvel" trademark, but they can still call Billy that in the comic.
>>
>>153237021
You cannot call him Mickey Mouse, but one of the horror parodies circumvented it (Mickey's Mouse trap)
>>
Matt Damon was right about the death of physical media's effect on the industry
>>
>>153236650
does disney+ get you a digital subscription to marvel comics?
>>
I wish they'd at least sell hd/4k video files of their movies and shows with some special features. Tired of this streaming/only watch on a website shit.
>>
>>153237087

They actually renamed it as "The Mouse Trap"

Not necessarily. They will probably just outsource the release of the physical disc to another company.

They already outsourced physical media production to Sony. People who got canned probably were in charge of prepping the scans, doing layout for the menus, and setting up bonus features. So they're probably either outsourcing that to Sony too, or hiring somebody else; which honestly might not be the worst thing with how fucked up some of Disney's re-releases had been.

Physical media for film and TV has been dead for ages. Unless you're into specific niches like Criterion or anime, where they can sell their works as premium products at an upmarked value compared to what Disney would typically sell their stuff for, companies don't see any real value in physical media.
Hell, even with anime that's iffy. Sony has been consciously killing off the physical side of that since they absorbed RightStuf. Since then they've done the following.
>Killed the Sunrise partnership RS had, which means that despite nearly every Gundam series being on BD, they're now OOP
>Killed Nozomi Entertainment, which resulted in many titles going OOP and entire planned releases to turn into nothing
>killed off longrunner releases presumably to get more interest in streaming (One Piece backlog DVDs are going OOP and never being rereleased despite having been on the market for well over a decade, Dragon Ball OG is OOP for good, etc.)
>Creating new regulations for the CR storefront (the replacement for RS) that limits what can be sold to popular home video with no room for R18 releases
It's honestly baffling, but companies clearly don't get much from these products.
>>
>>153236231
>Marvel's entire Visual Development Team was also let go.
They're likely just gonna externalize that function to some third party. Like they'd contract it to some Canadian art development studio who'll subcontract the work to some Indian sweatshop.
>>
>>153235977
>media corporations need line to go up for shareholders
>stop releasing things on physical media and force people to use your streaming services to lock them into a subscription model that provides a constant income stream
>by forcing them online to use streaming, all the normies who used to buy physical discs also learn they can just pirate
>cost of living increases caused by corporations making line to go up for shareholders mean they cancel their subscriptions and just pirate
You get what you fucking deserve.
>>
>>153241052
BD sales of an anime stopped being the gauge of success in Japan around 2017-2018.
It seems that mid-2010's is the period DVD and BD stopped being profitable. But I think it has more to do with home video companies ditching DVDs completely for BDs for new releases, when they were still 2x the price of DVDs.
>>
>>153235977
>he doesn't burn his own cds
lol
>>
>>153236149
There is a physical media store near me where I bought Berserk on blueray from. The shitty thing is they never update sale prices, so some shit that was 60 is still 60 dollars there. It's great for CD and Viynals, along with horror flicks, which is thriving for physical media.
>>
>>153235977
The logical conclusion of streaming is for everyone to switch to Pluto and Tubi and shit. Let them grasp for straws. It will only hasten their reckoning.
>>
Disney always had the "vault" where they rotated what physicals were available at any given time to artificially create scarcity. They were always the worst company for physical media.
>>
>>153236149
I have the new releases tab on blu-ray.com bookmarked and there's still a surprising amount of shit getting put out every week. It's just gonna be less and less of these "media giants" going forward.
>>
>it's disney's fault that nobody buys dvds anymore!!!
bro
>>
>>153238395
It could be worse, like how Toei and Funimation treat Dragon Ball in Physical media
>>
>>153243952
>so some shit that was 60 is still 60 dollars there
These days, people scalp a lot of anime related stuff. The moment its out of print its immediately RARE OUT OF PRINT! and the price gets jacked by 20, 30, 40 dollars.
Count your blessings.

His video on Hoppers was kind of off, specifically when he was talking about it scaring children. Because 1) we live in a post FNAF world were kids are EATING that shit up, and 2, there have been scary scenes in kids movies before, so why complain now?
>>
>>153244984
People have been getting weirdly moralfaggy concerning kids media these days
And many of these same people will complain about said shows and movies being overly sanitized or that kids today are too sheltered

Sony took over all marketing, production and distribution of Disney’s home video projects like two years ago. These were layoffs everyone knew were coming
>>
>>153235977

>>
>>153244984
>His video on Hoppers was kind of off, specifically when he was talking about it scaring children.

This was a bizarre complaint that certainly existed so he would have something to complain about. The movie wasn't even all that scary and frankly if there wasn't anything in there they'd surely be complaining the movie was too safe.
>>
>>153235977

>>
>>153245065

>>153245211
Hoppers wasn't even that bad of a movie, despite the clear environmental bent, it wasn't preachy, and it clearly show almost all of the main character's decisions backfiring on her, to the point she almost got a crowd of people killed.
