Who was the first cartoon villain to be "cartoonishly evil"?
>>153236537There is probably even older ones, but Dick Dastarly is definitely cartoonishly evil.
>>153236537You'd have to go back to the early days of cartoons for that. Say, Pete from the early Mickey Mouse shorts, Bluto from Fleisher's Popeye, or any of the mad scientist villains from the old Superman cartoons.Off-hand, I'd say the first character to _define_ "cartoonishly evil" wasn't even a cartoon, it was the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. Margaret Hamilton's performance was so over-the-top it set the bar for all future movie villains, animated or live-action.
>>153236647I mean, if we are going with movies as well, weren't there black and white silent movies with the cartoonishly evil character that tied damsel in distress to the rail roads?
Do we define "cartoonishly evil" as identifying as evil rather than mistakenly believing they're in the right?

>>153236589I have to respect that man's commitment to his art. Plenty of times he could have won the race, but chose to cheat, because he couldn't stand the idea of a clean win.
Bow down, you fucking extras.
>>153236722Yes, which is an outgrowth of Melodrama stage plays.

>>153238094Going strictly by cartoons, Oilcan Harry predates him by just shy of 10 years, and there's older examples before him.
