A funny one I like to mention>In the comics Agatha Harkness is an old lady ghost>MCU adapts her for Wandavision>Wandavision is a hit, Agatha Harkness is a hit mostly due to the song becoming a meme for a week>Comics "coincidentally" start using her again>But wait, Agatha in the MCU is a villainous younger witch woman associated with purple, not a dead old lady ghost!>We must synergize, we're out of sync>Resurrect Agatha and de-age her>Make her more crafty and with a meaner streak similar to Katherine Hahn's character>MCU then proceed to make her an old lady ghost>Comics are out of sync again
The thing about the Kamala being a mutant in the TV show is they never really fully say that she is. They say here genes are mutating and they play the X-Men theme but it seems her origins mostly come from the genie verse or whatever and the bangles she equips. Its just the comics went insanely overboard and killed her and made her a mutant.

>>153241326>To be fair, nobody cares about BarbaraWhether you like it or not, she's a character that has managed a level of audience-awareness outside of comics because of adaptations, where the average normie has a basic idea of who they are and what they look like. That just isn't a character DC should be trying to turn into a legacy character and replace, and it only happened because Batman editorial was run by people seething about the 60s show for decades. Of course the character editorial seethed about for decades doesn't have many solo runs, and nothing lasts long without getting rebooted now.Even if you were 100% right about Babs not being able to hold a comic and readers not caring about her, the comics are ultimately secondary to everything else, where the real money is made, and DC shouldn't be trying to replace or retire characters normies know just because some editors don't like them.

>>153241419Green Goblin worked because Norman Osborn quickly became an important character in Spider-Man comics in his own right, while the mystery wasn't that big of a deal, there were only about 3 or 4 Green Goblin stories before the unmasking. You can't run a mystery villain for years, and then act like Glub Xhitto is a big deal of a character who readers should care about because he's the man under the Hobgoblin mask.Unfortunately Spider-Man writers keep thinking they all have to do their own mystery villain because everyone else did, it always gets drawn out for too long (anything longer than 2 years or 25 issues is just going to be long than the reveal will warrant), and it's always underwhelming because there just aren't that many supporting characters who could be revealed as secretly being a supervillain and it would be a big deal.At least the Kindred mystery dragging on so long and being ruined by a last-minute swerve that didn't make any sense at all seems to have finally broken the fandom to the point where there's a refusal to get invested in later mystery villains the way they always did before, people seem to be finally done with this.

>>153241686In this case it's synergy working as a way to course correct. Kara losing her limbs in the first place was an idiotic decision. Who the fuck asked for that in what was generally a lighthearted cheesecake comic?
Going back many years but it still makes me laugh that DC literally blew up the modern Gotham skyline just to justify making it look like the Burton movies, because the Anton Furst type buildings were 'hiding' behind the buildings that got blown up
>>153239539Feels rather serendipitous that both are in a creative tailspin right now
>>153238450Because Warner Bros treats its separate divisions like they're wholly separate companies. In other words, from WB's perspective, the rights to Two Face, Ra's, and Scarecrow were purchased by their movie division, so the tv division couldn't have them. The Bat-Embargo even effected the DCAU. That's why only The Joker showed up in Justice League. Hell, Cartoon Network Studios had to pay for the rights to use Hanna-Barbera sound effects in OK KO, even though Cartoon Network Studios IS essentially Hanna-Barbera.
>>153241279And then the Thunderbolts* film's release date got pushed back and the closing twist regarding the team's actual name was sussed out, meaning they had to ANOTHER Bucky-led team book to synchronize with the New Avengers branding

>>153239520And years later, 616 Coulson became a satanist minion of Mephisto
>>153238376>most of Batman's not being allowed for use in DCAU Justice LeagueThat's not actually totally true. The Embargo didn't go into effect until about halfway through the second to last season (which is why "Task Force X" was only in one episode because of Deadshot) The reason Batman characters other than Batman himself rarely appeared in Justice League was just because the staff was getting sick of them after so many Batman episodes and wanted to branch out more. Even then several Batman characters did show up until about halfway through Unlimited. Aquaman is what really hurt JLU because they wanted him and Black Manta to be a big part of the final season but were denied.
>>153238450Because companies are afraid people will equate a potentially bad adaptation of a product with all of them, and avoid any further adaptations. It's why they were so strict with Batman when the Nolan films were coming out because they were afraid they'd bomb because people would assume they were like Forever and Batman and Robin and skip them. Arrowverse had a similar problem where suddenly nobody wanted their stuff to be associated with it when it became openly known as hokey soap opera crap for women.

>>153241119>>153241303>>153242820Its always distinct lack of communication between movie studio and comics studio. >>153241364>I thought the idea there was just proto-Joker who hadn't taken on the name yet, they really weren't allowed to use the name Joker in a Batman show full of Batman characters? Weird.Yeah even right down to the finale when he's full Joker they couldn't use his name but they could say shit like "He thinks he's playing..a JOKE!" to drum it in.Also the Gotham producers had to fight hard and scratch and claw to be allowed to show the Joker outfit and Batsuit in the finale. Which DC allowed, but they weren't allowed to say Batman and Joker. But they've always been allowed to use Bruce Wayne. SUPER weird rules. >>153238376>Black Adam Black Adam-ing everyone in Dark Crisis and having his face morphed into Dwayne Johnson because of the latter's egoThat wasn't because of the Rock, it was because DC wanted to cash in on the movie, and because capeshit artists are garbage and actively trace peoples looks. Ultimates had Nick Fury specifically be Sam Jackson (there was even a scene where the characters discuss who'd play them if they became a movie), Kyle Rayner was repeatedly drawn as Keanu Reeves and there was even an in-universe comment how he is a Keanu-looking-motherfucker, and at one point, I think in one of the Illuminati meetings, Namor looked like Jean Reno probably from The Big Blue where he played a professional freediver.

>>153241769>>153242954Unironically this is quite synergized because campbell knows his shit over supergirl story over the silver and bronze age.Because Cyborg Kara was her last arc as a heroine through the 70's til her death at the crisis, which in fact thanks to doctor starfire removing her powers, made her vulnerable thus her death. If Kara had her powers, she would had survived, but she didn't, she was more machine inside her skin than a woman and all to continue her duty as a hero, even her eyes and eardrums and lungs were replaced for her to fight in space, plus the super strength bracers and the rocket boots. And later when matrix appears post-crisis, her first adventures were in space to prove that she was supergirl. From the looks of it Kara is Dying here but getting brought to life by the S-Matrix, Lesla and Black Flame probably dies and kara blames herself for all that happens and leaves to space for synergy for a while and returns at the end of the year, because it is obvious that Kandor will clone her and make Galatea canon but have her assume the name Linda Danvers

Black nick fury, black xmen outfits
That ONE time, they introduced a potential new Batgirl that went nowhere.
>>153238491Is that a hot take now? Yes, there should only be one live-action version of a character at a time. Separate concurrent live-action continuities IS confusing. When has it ever been done well?

Is what happened to Kamala not an obvious enough warning for you about what happens if those characters were turned into mutants again? The mutant books are literal Satan-tier evil these days, why would you even want that for anyone? If you can remember how the X-books abused Firestar for being an Avenger for a few years, why would you ever want to let those clowns near Wanda and Pietro ever again? And with the MCU in a death spiral, they're being blindly optimistic if they thing they're getting a whole 'X-Men saga' and not just a reboot movie that performs about as well as every other X-Men movie without Jackman did.

>>153238376>Synergy hall of shameDoes anyone remember that time they tried to make Magneto not-Jewish? In the 90s they were thinking about adaptations and they got to a point where they panicked about Magneto being a Holocaust survivor for any potential adaptation, so they had Legion read Magneto's mind to basically say he lied about his identity and was a gypsy. Then there was backlash and they undid it. Then when we actually got to an X-Men adaptation, the literal first scene in the movie is Auschwitz.>Kamala KhanOriginally intended to be a mutant, then made into an Inhuman because of that whole thing, then retconned into being a mutant. Some others:>America ChavezOriginally a lesbian from the lesbian dimension, so essentially an alien. Then some people pointed out that she was essentially cosplaying a latina then and culturally appropriating Latin culture. So they decided to retcon her origin story so she was Latina but there was some experimentation and wiped memories. They did this because they wanted a cleaner origin story for her adaptation. Then they use the original origin story anyway.
>>153238376>Synergy hall of shameThere is a theory that all the 2010s Marvel diversity push was a result of MCU synergy/needs:>Originally the MCU discussed recasting superheroes ala James Bond, change the actor when you needed to.>This worked with some course correction stuff, like Warmachine and Hulk.>RDJ's popularity massively changed this approach.>Bendis was on the Creative Committee providing input to the MCU, famously he was also kicked off of it for stealing ideas for his GotG comic. Rumour has it that he saw which way the wind was blowing on adaptations and this massively influenced the creation of Miles, amongst other things.>Feige instructed a diversity push of, new younger heroes and replacement heroes.>Younger heroes = younger actors who could be in more movies; replacement heroes = people to replace current MCU heroes.>2010s created a bunch of new heroes (Ms Marvel), replacement heroes (FemThor, Sam Cap, Riri Iron Heart, Amadeus Cho Hulk) and also pushed some previously made heroes (Young Avengers, Hawkeye Kate Bishop).>2010s saw a massive sales decline until in 2017, Secret Empire and all the replaced mainstays caused comic shop owners to shout at Marvel representatives at a convention.>In response David Gabriel, VP of Publishing, said diversity didn't sell, but then almost immediately back tracked these comments the next day.>So why did we have this big diversity push, which was also a sales failure? Just politics? Or something more?>Post-Endgame all these new characters became massively pushed in MCU media with them originally a much bigger part of upcoming movies like the upcoming Avengers movies. So it honestly feels like the trash of the 2010s was entirely about creating IPs for use in the MCU rather than actually making good comics.
>>153238376>Kamala KhanSynergy Hell is the whole Kamala Khan push. No other character, besides Miles, has had the push she has had:>Her first trade paper back was majorly pushed in the YA book market with HUGE ordering incentives.>The trade sales figures people use for her first series are almost all weighted to the first trade paper back because of this.>Sales everywhere else with her have tanked majorly and yet she has been in video games, cartoons and the the MCU.>This convinced a bunch of people are Marvel that their comics would sell if they crashed the comic book market and sold exclusively in the book market even though this character flopped when the sales incentives ended.>Even when they threw the character a bone via going back to her original mutant intended origin it did nothing for her.

>>153248469>It was a good thing in hindsight, since it gave her time to breatheI would argue both choices were bad. Honestly, given the huge push she got, making her connected to either the Inhumans or the Mutants was a mistake and if they had kept the YA focus and some just some connections to Carol they may have been able to establish her more. Ms Marvel fans are pretty adamant they like her lighter slice of life type stuff whilst events and other things bogged her down. But then again, making these sort of connections is in Marvel's DNA right back to the start.
>>153248453Both posts are conspiracy bullshit.
>>153248262>So it honestly feels like the trash of the 2010s was entirely about creating IPs for use in the MCU rather than actually making good comics.I thought this was obvious? Even if they didn't get marching orders to make stuff for the MCU, they would have anyway in the hopes of them somehow getting adapted and the royalties that would come with it.
the iconic Wondering Commandos
>>153248542Ironically enough, Carol did more damage to her than the inhumans ever did.The two events that tanked her were civil war 2, and Hickman's secret war.CW2 heavily damaged her and her side cast.
>>153248566Most people just focus on the wokeness for the sake of wokness and not the IP farming aspect.
>>153247645Hence why Babs was introduced in the comics as a full grown, PhD having, working woman who used her expertise to figure out crimes at the same speed as Batman.
>>153248590>Ironically enough, Carol did more damage to her than the inhumans ever did.Sure, but I am more talking about an alternative scenario with light Carol interactions and not stuffing her in events or connecting her straight to Inhumans/Mutants. To be honest when you look back in Marvels history, stuffing B, C and D listers into stuff, is Marvels bread and butter. But the stuff people actually seemed to like is the lighter aspects of her which were completely overturned by all that other shit.
>>153248566>they would have anyway in the hopes of them somehow getting adapted and the royalties that would come with it.Ms Marvel has five listed creators and one of these creators is Sana Amanat, an executive at Marvel and currently Executive Producer on shit like Daredevil: Born Again. (She claims she is the reason Born Again moved to a more Netflix tone and yet I have it on good authority she is the one that originally wanted a more swasbuckling Waid inspired Daredevil for the MCU.) I very much believe she probably has a good sweetheart deal with Marvel when it comes to shit like Ms Marvel. Same thing with Bendis and the characters he made.
Are we just talking about terrible production company and licensing decisions? Because if we're talking about any snafu then you can shame far far more adaptations than you can venerate. Honestly kinda hard to criticize licensing decisions because mostly that's just particular people/companies looking out for themselves rather than one executive being a retard.

>>153249161I am pretty it was made to bury him so he would never again usurp Barry's spot.
>>153249178>She-Hulk was created by Stan Lee, who wrote only the first issue, and was the last character he created for Marvel Comics,[6] until his return to comics with Ravage 2099 in 1992. The reason behind the character's creation had to do with the success of The Incredible Hulk (1977–1982) and The Bionic Woman television series, both from Universal Television. Marvel was afraid that the show's executives might suddenly introduce a female version of the Hulk, as producer Kenneth Johnson had already done with The Six Million Dollar Man.[7] So Marvel decided to publish their own version of such a character to make sure that, if a similar one appeared in the television series, Marvel would own the rights.[8][9] Kenneth Johnson later said the plans for season five of The Incredible Hulk was to have Banner's sister suffering from a disease where only the blood of a sibling could save her life, which would turn her into a "woman Hulk who was crazy and scary and dangerous". But six episodes into the season, a new boss at CBS decided to cancel the show with immediate effect, ending the last season with episode seven.[10]

>>153249368Court of Owls was originally meant to be a Dickbats story, like Scott's previous Dickbats story The Black Mirror (which was well received).>Lincoln Marsh was very Bruce like, taking Dick under his wing. This was going to give it more meaning. Lincoln also claimed connection to the Wayne family. >Batman being beaten to a pulp in the maze was meant to be Dick thinking he couldn't make it as Batman. >The Talons connection to the Grayson Flying circus and how he could have become a Talon.>Why the Court decided to strike now.The reason why that story feels so unsatisfying is because the New 52 was made in such a short creative turn and his Dick story became a Bruce story. The mystery wasn't the point, it was how the character was Bruce like, the connections to the circus, Dick not feeling like he was good enough, so much so that Gotham wasn't even something he fully knew. But we lost all that.
>>153241629>At least the Kindred mystery dragging on so long and being ruined by a last-minute swerve that didn't make any sense at all seems to have finally broken the fandom to the point where there's a refusal to get invested in later mystery villains the way they always did before, people seem to be finally done with this.Reminds me, wasn't Whor really supposed to be Rosalind Solomon, but that was totally guessed so the writer (Vince) Russo swerved to Jane Foster?
