Before you say anything, no, i'm not shilling this guy video (i just thought this thumbnail was good for the thread), i wanted to ask, do you consider Daredevil an A-list character? What does it take for a character to become A-lister? Is Iron Man an A-lister?
I’d consider a character an A-lister if they consistently sell books, are first on the list for adaptations, and are easily identifiable by someone on the street. By that metric? Yeah, Daredevil’s probably gotten there. Ben Affleck movie, Netflix show, and has officially been in the MCU since 2021. If not, he’s at the very top of the B list.Iron Man is now A-list purely by MCU hype.
>>153244575I thought he already was. He's had multiple adaptations, with his Netflix series being quite popular, and critically acclaimed comics to his name.
>>153244575He’s been A-list for a while.
Probably Flash, Iron man tier.Sometimes is in a good moment and sometimes not so much.B+ player I guess
He's B-List.The only A-List characters Marvel has are Spider-Man, Wolverine, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and The Hulk. MAYBE some of the other X-Men like Cyclops, Jean, and Prof X.Some characters that have been A-List at one point in time but are not currently A-List include F4, Punisher, and Nick Fury.DD is B-List but probably above Hawkeye and Black Widow.
>>153244575B-list
>>153246635I mean this depends on what we're about. Culture penetration, comics, movies/adaptations, merchandise, media. Spider-Man, Wolverine and Iron Man, sure. Deadpool could even be added to the list considering the strength of his movies and cultural penetration. Cap, Thor, Hulk, probably slightly below this. The MCU was a very large Iron Man and the rest type thing, Incredible Hulk did quite badly and Hulk because of the Universal rights issue never really got his due. X-Men used to be Marvel A-List up there with Spider-Man but I dunno, I feel like they have that cultural penetration but not the same level of popularity as they once did.
>>153244575The Frank Miller run made him an a-lister, then he kind of fell back to b again until the TV show. So, yes, it's been off an on.
>>153244575>>153246582>>153246202Only if you're using some sort of retarded scale where the actual A-listers are all being promoted to "S" or some shit.
A list to whom? I resent the notion that a character is only A list if normies know them. Any comic reader will know horn head
>>153246202No, Daredevil was only popular when Miller was writing him, then got a push in the 2000s because Kevin Smith wrote the series for a while so between that and Miller he became seen/marketed as a sort of prestige character who normalfags would like and who elevated Marvel. This is where you start seeing people unironically parrot the shit about how "Daredevil has never had a bad run" even though the entire reason Miller was able to do whatever he wanted was because nobody cared about the character and Smith was brought in specifically because interest in the character had plummeted; I've heard people talk up the Kelly and Kessel runs, I'm not a DD guy so I haven't read them but Smith brought interest and "prestige" back to the character so he got a push.
He was A list when Miller was writing him like 40 years ago but has slunk down since then
He's hit the B-tier ceiling.Don't get me wrong, Daredevil definitely has a lot of adapted material, all of which are of consistently high quality. It's just that he's lacking... something. Something that has to elevate him not just from public consciousness, but into actual pop culture. Iron Man and Captain America have already hit that milestone thanks to the MCU. Daredevil needs something more than just the MCU to get him there. Maybe an Insomniac game could finally give him the push that's needed.
Daredevil is the gatekeeper of the B list, you don't make it to A unless you have a more consistent run of writing and artist talent than himThe only character that's been able to break past him and stay past him is Wolverine and the last 10-15 years have done a number on him
>>153247681>>153247857Exactly. DD has been A-tier thanks to Miller, fell down to top of B-tier afterwards, and got back into A-tier again thanks to the Netflix show.As >>153246635 and >>153248914 have said, DD needs like, 1 or 2 cartoon shows and at least a good console game to put him on a solid A level. The problem is that he's been hovering between A and high B for years, but if Disney or Marvel invested just a little bit more into him and gave him his own cartoon and game, he'd actually be permanently elevated into solid A-tier for it.
>>153248961>a good console gameShame they cancelled his PS2 game.https://youtu.be/9hkz_XFKchA
>>153248952It's funny because Deadpool got elevated into an A-lister in less time than it took Wolverine to get there. And that guy only started out as a generic villain-of-the-week for The New Mutants.
>>153247857This
>>153244575We don't have sales data so there's no way of knows who is an A, B, or C-lister. That is what determines status. It's a bit skewed given Tv show = sales boost but the standard is still the standard. And I don't see Daredevil selling Batman numbers.
>>153248992Wolverine wasn't around for under a decade when he got his miniseries at a time where Miller was undeniably one of the top 2 artists in the industry along with Byrne. That was basically saying he was an A-lister as he was the most popular character on the most popular book. Deadpool farted around in C-list status until the Reynolds movie which was a full 26 years after his debut and even then he's had trouble keeping a series going.
>ctrl+f>bendis>smith>zero resultsNo one is being honest itt because he was an a-lister then.
