Was Black Hat a product of the time? His whole crossover gimmick just makes him seem like a mary sue.
What is that supposed to mean? He was not interesting even at the time
He is, this came out only a few years after the Onceler
No wonder the show flopped
Dementia is literally just Power from Chainsawman with a crush innit
>>153246128I liked the original characters in this but the crossover aspect really sucked and I dont think the show had any chance to ever get off the ground because of it. Im glad the whole "crossover" phase is dying, people dont really enjoy seeing their favorite works being shit on by anpther one or you have to create some sort of convolted "everyone is equal" nonsense to keep all fans happy. Its just not good writing
>>153246128Apparently his creator was so butthurt at the idea he was petrified in the OK KO crossover that he went out of his way to say that it wasn't the REAL black hat in that episode, right?
>>153246128the weirdest thing about Villainous is that they released like 3 episodes where there was absolutely no crossover stuff and they were genuinely good and the type of thing that should have been able to be stretched out into a full show, but they just never did.Black Hat being an all powerful being who never actually DOES anything would've been a perfect twist for the premise as well. His ego would have him consider his entire business model as "beneath him", and you could probably fit in some little thing at the finale like "I'm just doing this to pass the time, a hobby for an immortal like myself." Similar to that Doorman character from Deadlock except Black Hat does everything half-assed because he's not as into it as he was originally, but he's already done all the work setting up the company so he may as well follow it through until he really gets fed up.IDK, I guess characters like him are technically open to anything so it's hard to come up with something concrete that works on an episode-to-episode basis.
>>153246128Brown hands made this meme.
>>153246128I usually hate these potential man memes, but its justified here. Watching him kill random CN characters in fun, but having all the other villains bow down to him just feels kind of lame.
>>153246128This show seemed to have the potential to be THE breakout show like TDZ or Hazbin but it didn't. Is it because it was Spanish only?
>>153246128Dude, we've had this discussion way too many times. The thing is, people take crossovers and orientation videos way too seriously, seeing them as a way to belittle other villains and series when they were just parodies of the tropes and mistakes writers had to use to make their heroes beat the villains from other shows.Besides, many of the creators of the parodied series collaborated on the crossovers, giving their approval and supervising them, like Ian Jones and Tom Warburton.
>>153247673doesn't Dem predate Power?
>>153247897The thing is, that's exactly what Black Hat is; he is evil itself, not a person but a concept personified in a body. His existence is also the existence of all the bad things that happen in his world. He doesn't need to do anything to be evil, just entertain himself.
>>153246128didn't he show up in the OK KO crossover special where he was one of the characters who was defeated and turned into stone, but then later on they handwave it as "that wasn't the real Black Hat, that was a clone so his undefeatability still stands!"
>>153247746>people dont really enjoy seeing their favorite works being shit on by anpther oneThis is what I don't understand about this damn discussion: Robot Chicken, Mad, and anything else you see on the internet does exactly the same thing, and in many cases in more aggressive ways, but you don't see anyone complaining about it.
>>153248192Because unlike Villanous, they are actually funny.
>>153248234So that's the problem? They just don't like villainous, and they have to make such a drama about it?
>>153246128Black Hat is basically a lovecraftian outer god by design. Flug is more the protagonist with Black Hat being "that thing you DO NOT fuck with that sort of influences shit" like in Lovecraft stories
>>153248192It's because those shows are inherently comedic (debatable if they succeed on that) parodies that don't take themselves seriously or expect you to take them serious. Villainous despite being a comedy takes itself seriously enough where having the ooky spooky big bad curbstomp every other popular character reeks of lame wish fulfillment.
>>153248107>OK KOBlack Hat duplicate that was a statue. They confirm this double had no actual power and they play around with the other doubles (especially Buff Hot) in later canon material>Victor and ValentinoSends Demencia and Flug to their world in a crossover ep. They capture the hero squid kid and leave where Black Hat presumably devours him. He also shows up as an easter egg in other eps including newspaper clippings of weird happenings and as a cosmic shadow when they are in space or some astral plane in one episodeThere's also some other mexican show where pictures of Black Hat and Demencia show up on some wall board at a bar or something.
>>153248269I find that whenever bitching about Villainous and Black Hat comes up, its usually from powerfags who hate the idea of him stomping <insert their favorite character here>
>>153248353>Black Hat duplicate that was a statue. They confirm this double had no actual power and they play around with the other doubles (especially Buff Hot) in later canon materialSounds lame as fuck, would been more easy to just take the hit and move on, no wonder people are shitting on Black Hat.
>>153247994Nah it got a dubs and is also pretty big in Japan. It just got fucked by Warner shit. Then they went pseudo indie while releasing books and doing that spinoff based the Heist comic protags. Now there's supposed to be some Villainous announcement in about a week and a half
>>153248428I mean considering he already no sold medusa stare before that was even a thing it kinda tracks.
>>153248454Will they re-edit the first season to remove the crossover aspect?
>>153247956Green hands argued this meme
>>153246128He's better than the two ugly dyke thieves who have no personality or chemistry that Ituriel keeps shoving in our faces
>>153248014Yes but that f/a/ggot has no idea
>>153247897The bit where Flug finds out there's a ripoff team was gold
>>153248353>Black Hat duplicate that was a statue. They confirm this double had no actual power and they play around with the other doubles (especially Buff Hot) in later canon materialNOOOOOO MY SUPER POWERFUL OC WOULD NEVER JOBJesus Christ, grow a fucking personality, Villainous guy.
>>153248353Lmao this is even faster than starlins thanks clone robots that only have 0.000000000001 percent of the real thanks power.its fucking pathetic like a kid at recess going now I have all the powers and can do anything and you can't stop me haha
>>153248555Buff Hot is best boy
>>153246128He's Pibby but villain tumblr sexyman therefore good
>>153248192Theres a differnece between a joke and a show that occasionally tries to take itself seriously and then says things like AKU and the greater darkness he spawned from are just pussies compared to this totally canon character made by some.mexican 5 years ago.
The people complaining about the show haven't seen a single episode. There's dark comedy, interesting storylines, violence, and none of that gay drama or preachy speeches. And above all, there are some really, really hot girls. If you watch all this and you're still focused on complaining about something as insignificant as a non-canonical crossover, then you're either a faggot or an idiot.
>>153248800To be fair Black Hat casually popping a planet does put him way above Aku even back then. Now it's not even a question with those books that got storytimed way back.
>>153248800To be fair, AKU was one of the villains who was treated with the most respect in the orientation videos, with the added bonus that he wasn't humiliated or tortured at the end of his episode.
>>153248862Dude, what the hell, we start our sentences in exactly the same way.
>>153248862That is the kind of shit that is annoying about Black Hat. He's literally an outsider who was never part of certain "something" before when he shows up everyone falls on their knees to not be ass kicked by a dude who TOTALLY existed before he appeared, despite that certain "something" is like a decade or two older than Black Hat's inception.
>>153248882>>153248862Brown hands typed this
>>153248353Frankelda had a Black Hat sticker on a character's theremin.
Always funny watching people seethe over this character for essentially being One Punch Man but Villain
>>153248945>One Punch Man but villainGood to know Popeye fodderizes his lame ass then.
>>153248787More like a choose your poison kind of thing
>>153248384Judging from the thread so far this seems about accurate
>>153247746Fortnite is biggest reason why crossovers are so lame now, they're just ADs not genuine attempts to make stories or fun fanservice
>>153248492Maybe. Frankly the crossover cameos was just fluff. The setting already has plenty of fun OCs
>>153248960I like these two as enemies. I don't like pissy and I don't like blackhat's smug aura. And their crossover nonsense. These two deserve eachother.
>>153248954Nope. Book gives him (Not) Dip so Popeye loses too :)
>>153248850A morsel of poop spoils a milkshake. It found its audience, the fans enjoy it.
>>153249144I found the faggot
>>153249207It’s good that you don’t see things the same as everyone else
>>153248960At least one managed to be something more than an OC
Black Hat loses to Goku because he was made by a Mexican and no Mexican would ever create a character that humiliates Goku.
What is it with Latin/South American CN and crossover cameos? They get to have them happen with their original shows. In contrast, the US shows only ever do crossovers when they're a big event and never for short gags/cameos anymore, and when they do it's only ever with shows that are currently running.
>>153251657Mexican shows like having more fun
>>153248850I hope we get more G-Lo. She is cute and I want to see her corrupted to join team villain
>>153246128Keep in mind in universe those videos are Black Hat's sponsored commercials, is in his best interest to appear strong.
>>153248912This. And the sad part is that it’s not even necessary. It’s got the exact same energy as those old Deviantart OCs where the tartlet makes their villains basically more eviler than Itachi and Freiza combined out of our 13 year old energy. And from what I’ve seen of the show, it’s basically unnecessary since the show more or less stands on its own without the crossover elements. Could have gotten the same point across of Black Hat being the ultimate evil by having like old-timey depictions of Black Hat casually starting the black plague with a sack full of threats or sinking the Titanic or casually dropping an apple in the Garden of Eden or so on.Mind, I get at the end of the day they’re gags, and only autists seriously try to argue this one show’s OC is more powerful and evil than Aku considering Aku never so much as thinks of him in his home series. But it does feel rather superfluous and gave me the wrong impression of what the show was going to be about until I gave it a proper chance, which is a shame.
>>153248850There IS no show. There's like 2 episodes and you have to scour the Internet to find them.
>>153247897Honestly the heist comic was exactly the kind of story this series needed. Blackhat is a terrifying otherwordly force that we don't even meet, we just follow a couple C and D listers getting into trouble.
He was never interesting, even back then he was the>"guys look at my cool edgy mega powerful oc"Type of character and the proper term for the male characters is Gary stu
>>153246128He was the least interesting part of his own show and the new bit with him just beating everyone came off with about the same tone as the strong bad sketch from robot chicken or pretty much anything from flashgitz that isnt space kingExcept its even shittier because it acts like you are legit expected to take it seriously instead of just being dumb comedy>>153252738>Deviantart OCs where the tartlet makes their villains basically more eviler than Itachi and Freizahonestly with how that short was blackhat fell further than dumb deviantart ocs and is more like on the level of that one clown who was way too into his own xenoverse 2 character, you know the "king of natural selection" or some dumb shit that just looked like bojack dressed as jiren
>>153253486I did like they still brushed with that aspect of the setting though near the end and it was appropriately portrayed as terrifying beyond the pale shit
>>153246128i wanna what happened to this show did it got cancelled? it was super popular in 2016 but then it was just gone
>>153253675Got screwed by the Warner and cartoon network shit that was/is going on. Though Alan was smart enough to retain the rights to the IP and characters and since then had to adjust course to uodate and remove the CN stuff due to that (some of the supplementary comics and books had to be postponed to fix em on this front since they are tied to his planmed story and the ongoing Heed arc). They went sorta indie since then but there is supposed to be a big announcement on the 26th so we'll see what comes of that.Since the 6 episodes of the show there's been a couple of books released as well that Heist comic (which the spinoff series will be based on which takes place after Heedious Heart) and I think some ARGs. A few of em got storytimed here awhile back
>>153251657Companies do it for marketingSouth Americans do it because they are genuinely autistic for animation to an insane degreeIf it was up to them then Pibby would been a thing
>>153254037This. Its also why their lineup (both for CN and Adult Swim) is way better than in the US
>>153247673There are these things called Archetypes
>>153251657Because mexicans actually love cartoons and anime
>>153254037It makes sense because in some South American Nations they straight up ran marathons of cartoons with 8 hours per day every weekend to the point that even people without access to cable are able to watch A LOT of cartoons The Simpsons in Argentina and Woody Woodpecker in Brazil are great examples of this phenomenon
