Congrats, anon.
The lego company is attempting to reboot Bionicle again, only this time instead of trying to gain a new audience, they're pandering to the old with overpriced sets. And to promote the new toyline, they're funding an animated series, and they want (you), for some god forsaken reason, to head this massive project. But, you must follow these rules:

>You can reinterpret events and perspectives but no hard retcons
>You can only use the core books and movies as the bases for this reboot
>You must rename or recontextualize key terms in ordering to not offend the Polynesian and Māori people
>You're allowed to incorperate one web story into this reboot
>You cannot have tribe be exclusively male or female-coded

So, how are (you) handing this?
>>
If the point is appealing to the original audience as much as possible, then just do a straight adaptation with priority of comic>book>other media, having the characters look exactly like the toys in the show, and have one minor character from each group be voiced by someone of the opposite sex of their majority. Male-Female distinction was not important to begin with. Not sure why renaming is needed since they already settled that early on with renaming.

please just rerelease old bionicle sets for the next anniversary. the plastic in a lot of mine have cracked and degraded.

>then just do a straight adaptation with priority of comic>book>other media
Incorrect. the primary source should be MNOLG.

The sequel is better.

everyone loved MNOLG, everyone hated MNOLG2

I would try to recapture the original feel of mystery and adventure that the initial animations had. Probably by having the toa initially ignore the matoran and eachother and not talking much. Which also means that the more social toa would initially have less focus.

>You must rename or recontextualize key terms in ordering to not offend the Polynesian and Māori people
I would rename and replace them, using the story to give context and weight to my new terms. I would strive to retain the tribal islander tone but I would also try to replace the...maoriness with a new culture of my own. Like how the guys at Bethesda created a new culture for Morrowind instead of just going "desert japs" back in the day.

>You're allowed to incorperate one web story into this reboot
No thanks, I'm good.

>You cannot have tribe be exclusively male or female-coded
I am okay with it. I would introduce new male and female matoran to all the tribes as background characters and also I would imply romances here and there. If the series continues or has a spinoff and I am allowed to introduce toa of my own, I would absolutely introduce a female red or brown toa. And one of them would have a straya accent. Just because I like australian girls.

One thing I never liked was the tonal whiplash of the shift from tribal island to modern metropolis. Another was that everything happened in a single generation. I would have to decide early if the original toa are the only toa or not in the setting.
If they are the only toa in the setting then I would repurpose the Metru and Hordika stories into a new story about the Toa Nuva exploring Metru Nui to make sure it is safe before the matoran are allowed to repopulate it. In this idea the Turaga are old matoran reminiscent of the G2 Protectors.
If the original toa are not the only toa in the setting then I would have a prequel about Toa Lhikan having gone missing after descending to Metru Nui and the matoran Vakama & co going down to look for him, then continuing his mission.

MNOG 1 is pretty obtuse to complete, even with a walkthrough.
>>
>>153251075
buddy i honestly think you're misremembering and mixing the two games up
>>
>>153251052
Are you that one guy from HypnoHub who brings up how much he hates Metru Nui literally every time we talk about it?
>>
>>153251075
Imagine not being able to complete a point-and-click game made for children
Did you also have trouble with Freddie Fish

Another thing I'd do would be to rewrite Sidorak's character. I'd write him as a brute instead of a simp. Sidorak would have the hots for Roodaka, who would manipulate him by feigning approval and disapproval towards his actions. He'd still get one-shot by Keetongu though. Just to show how simping can bring a strong man low.

>>153251082
No. I think Metru Nui was inferior to the original saga and it was a jarring change but I could never bring myself to say I hated it. I wish I had Vakama Metru and Matau Metru.
What is HypnoHub anyway?

It’s been the most popular hypnosis booru on the internet since it went up in 2014 and there’s one guy there who always interjects in discussions about Bionicle to say that 2004 was the year he lost interest because bringing a futuristic Mass Effect city into a story about tribespeople was le stupad. He’s done it three times that I’ve known him, and he always thinks it’s the first time he’s doing it. Ironically, I felt similarly about Ninjago.

>>153251155
So he can adsept that there are just living robots (biomechanical beings technically) roaming around on a island but not a futuristic city?

Btw for those who haven't heard. The May/June wave of CMF will include a Tahu minifig.

>It’s been the most popular hypnosis booru
Never heard of it. I'm not big on hypnosis.
I see his point. I understand why they did the change but I am not a fan of it either. One of my issues was that they didn't take the time to flesh out the city itself as a setting with side material. If it were me then I would had made a tour guide detailing miscelaneous locations and fun events on the website.
I think 2004 and 2005 were heavily carried by the toa's personalities.

>I felt similarly about Ninjago
All I know about Ninjago is the movie and from what I understand it butchered everything about the franchise. Fun movie though.

I was told by the guy that builds all the cool shit at Legoland Kansas city that Lego actually plans to put out more bionicle sets this year
>>
>>153249464
I opened up a Bionicle thread and know next to nothing about it, so I guess the first thing I'd do is just retell the existing canon but make it a high-budget mini series for streaming like Arcane. It should be animated like The Lego Movie but the tone should be serious

>they're pandering to the old with overpriced sets.
>You can only use the core books and movies as the bases for this reboot
Fuck that. I love Bionicles but the longer the the plot went along the worse it got.

I don't know the rest but Bionicle hooked me more for the aesthetics that the plot, the Toa are the cool toys you buy but their story is just a set up for you (as a child) to make up your own story and collect other robots to fight with.

But the way they presented that story is quite interesting, the setting of robot living like primitives in an island is a weird but fascinating idea, Its like those fantasy and science fiction illustration that give you a sense of wonder like you are seeing but a glimpse of a bigger unknown world.

Most kids would have experienced though the website playing a point and click game were you explore the island solving puzzles and trying to understand this strange world.

Look, 2004 is my favorite, so it peaked early for me too, but it didn’t “get worse” as it went along aside from some of the fuckery during the Waffle-Eye and Mad Max arcs that were mostly just down to production constraints. The ending was great despite the planned two more years ever entering production. It seems like you’re just doing the Dunkey thing where you scream about removing depth from something to come into compliance with your low INT.

Early Bionicle wasn't so concerned with narrative as much as establishing a mysterious tone, settings, concepts and characters. This worked in its favor because it created a unique atmosphere and world, and the details of the story weren't that important. It felt like a myth or legend being told in multiple different ways. But if someone had make an adaptation, they'd have to streamline things and make the narrative stronger without sacrificing that mystique.
The original 2001 plot was never fully told in any official media, so I'd just focus on retelling that first and see how well it performs. Even if it fails to bring in a new audience, at least it would finally be told. The Shadow Toa for example are not mentioned at all in 2001, then 2003 retroactively injects them into the 2001 plot in two contradictory scenes. And of these two scenes, the version that got published in a book was later retconned, so most people never read the canon version. It would be nice to have a "definitive" visual account of the Shadow Toa fight.
The thing about Bionicle is that its plans and story bibles were always changing as different writers added their own ideas. The story didn't just expand as it progressed, it also got reinterpreted by writers or by Lego execs. At one point, the 2005 story was gonna be a prequel to Metru Nui, which is why the second movie leaves some things vague, like Lhikan and Nidhiki's connection, Makuta's origin and why the Toa Metru don't have elemental powers in the movie. Then they decided not to make a prequel explaining all these things, and the Hordika arc was created as filler until they mapped out the rest of the story. Meanwhile most of the books were just Greg going off on his own tangents without consulting with the other writers. A hypothetical new adaptation could also fix all these inconsistencies.
