Comics that nobody remembers
>>153260921Only I remember...Eden's Trail.
You can find plenty of forgotten comicsThe REAL interesting stuff is forgotten comics that have actual history behind themPic related was hyped up to be the next big thing
>>153261122Chuck Austen's name in the credits is making me not want to check it out, but I might.
>>153261330>Pic related was hyped up to be the next big thingshill me on it. ive never heard of it
>>153261449I think he was only a co-writer, this was more Steve Uy's project.
>>153261468Bunch of kids get superpowers after a big light in the sky, every time one of them dies the rest get more powerful, turns out telepaths are a bad thing, the government is both right and moral to heavily restrict superhumans, everyone gets superpowers briefly after the superhumans have a war against themselves, world peace is declared, the last surviving superhuman rockets into space to start the process over on another planet.
>>153261536shit man that actually all sounds cool i might check it out
I was big into the Ultraverse. I remember Firearm. I didnt actually read the book but he guested in others. I collected Prime, Mantra, Nightman, Solitaire, Freex, Sludge.
Are the Ultraverse comics worth reading?
>>153262536The writing was particularly edgy. I cant believe I read them when I was 10. But there's some brilliance in the first year. Norm Breyfogle did 14 or so issues of Prime. Aaron Lopresti did great work on Sludge, Kyle Hotz on Night Man, Jeff Johnson on Solitaire. Steve Gerber's Exiles was neat.It was a tightly connected shared universe.
>>153260921You're right! I don't remember this at ALL!
>>153260921I remember it. It's weird because it was so boring and forgettable that I remember it because of that. It's also what made me realize James Robinson is kind of a hack who made one good comic
>>153262536Yeah I'd say so
>>153261330And this series was praised.
>>153266130It was?
>>153262536Well, it's definitely a relic of the 90's. I just find it funny even if Marvel/Disney wanted to used those characters, they can't use anything created by Gerald Jones or Mike Barr.
>>153261330I remember this comic and I enjoyed it for the most part, though the pacing was a bit strange I thought
vidya comicbook adaptations from Wildstorm in DC impring from 2002 to 2011.
>>153267228What did Mike Barr do?
>>153261801>>153263249How was Prototype?
>>153264651I didn't like Starman.
>>153260921Posting almost any indie that isn’t Spawn, Hellboy, Astro City, or Invincible is cheating, so instead I’ll post that one time Kirkman wrote Marvel Team-Up
>>153270373Speaking of Kirkman
>>153268727I didnt actually read that one. The interior art didnt fulfill the promise of the covers. >>153270990>>153270373I own both of these. Kirkman used Marvel Team Up to do a surreptitious crossover with Invincible. The Destroyer mini had great Cory Walker art.
>>153261330I also own the first 3 or so issues of Rising Stars. It shipped poorly so I never finished it but it had a lot of promise. I love JMS.The hype was just for the quality and JNS doing an original book instead of ASM, which was doing very well. I think it was always going to be a limited series.
>>153261330it was a pretty big deal for a whilei don't remember what killed the hype but there was a lot of mystery and suspense associated with that series. and later, more culturally popular things definitely ripped it off, like the show heroes and the boys
>>153266927Yes. It got 24 issues, Rising Stars: Bright (3 issue), Rising Stars: Voices of the Dead (6 issues), Rising Stars: Untouchable (5 issues), 3 novels, planned movie. Rising Stars was Straczynski's start to do comic scripts which where advertised with his name on it.You dont do that if it wasnt praised
>>153271980Bump
>>153268200He sued Malibu Comics over ownership of Mantra. When Marvel bought Malibu, the lawsuit became Barr vs. Marvel. I'm sure what after that since the lawsuit was 20 years ago.
>>153273988not sure
>>153273988Most likely that process blew up some kind of Rosenberg chicanery and Marvel discovered they can't really legally do anything with Ultraverse anymore
>>153270373got his whole spidussy out 'n errythang
>>153276507Please kill yourself.
>>153260921I'm trying to come up with recent forgotten books, but this one is over 10 years ago.
This one was okay, but I'm honestly not sure if it's even cannon considering the stuff that happened in the Squadron Supreme book at the time. That's probably also forgotten, so a spin off of a forgotten book that also might have self erased from continuity.
>>153267228There are two things blocking use of Ultraverse characters. The first is that the original contracts between the creators or their estates require that they get real royalties when their characters are used in any kind of media and not the bullshit ones Marvel pays or DC's 'participation' payments. The other reason is that it would require Disney Legal to exhume the old contracts, flesh them out and probably try to re-negotiate but what a lot of people don't understand is that Disney departments still bill each other so Marvel would have to PAY Disney Legal to figure it all out so it's just not worth it because the characters are 90's footnote and nobody is really clamoring for them.
I have no idea where I got this comic.
>>153274855Which explains why Ultraverse has been completely dead just a few years after Marvel bought them out.
>>153260921
This only had 2 storytime threads, and no one bothered to reply to the second one.Don't believe me?#1: https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/109485828/#2: https://desuarchive.org/co/thread/110286763/
>>153262536I had a few issues of Mantra. I recall them being alright.
>>153261330>Top CowIs Top Cow even a thing anymore? I remember when Witchblade and The Darkness were the hot shit in the late-90's and into the 00's, even getting TV shows, anime and video games, but I haven't heard anything about the comics in years.
>>153278542Yeah they have Witchblade and The Darkness series running right now, The Darkness just started a couple months ago with Silvestri writing. For like a decade though they seemed to be going through an identity crisis
>>153278542Top Cow's still a thing but out of the Portuguese Man O'War that is Image, it's kind of the weak link compared to Image Central and Skybound. They're kind of like Dark Horse where they're coasting off of their old stuff and haven't truly had a big original hit (for comic standards)
>>153278617The last really big thing they had was doing the physical collections of Sunstone
>>153278452I can see why. It seems like it tries too hard to be "I hate Candyland".
>>153278542>>153278601>>153278617Ron Marz had a God tier fantastic Witchblade run (with a bunch of solid tie-ins and events) that turned the book from a generic but decent 90s cheesecake book into a X-files like supernatural/sci-fi mystery series with a extremely rich mythology and fantastic digitally painted art.Once Marz left the universe floundered and then the 2017 Witchblade reboot was complete trash with a redesign 100% nothing like the iconic look. The current Witchblade series is a notable improvement over that but still falls short lf the Marz era.
>>153279026Classic Witchblade
>>153279026>>153279051Marz era Witchblade
>>153279026>>153279051>>153279060The 2017 reboot (I actually like it as it's own design but it is NOT Witchblade)
>>153279067Wtf she looks like a gender-swapped Kaine.
>>153279026>>153279051>>153279060>>153279067The current design.
>>153279087
>>153279060>>153279026I'm still so fucking mad the proper Sejic drawn Sara Kills The Darkness mini series got cancelled. Looked like some of his best work.
>>153279026CyberForce is kinda in a similar boat.I think the reboots of it were more intetesting & successful but at this point I really really just want the original versions back.> Need Fat Pale Ginger Speedster Ass!
>>153279188
>>153279196>>153279188What the fuck has Rocafort been doing lately anyway? Was he genuinely purged because of comicsgate?
This was surprisingly good and deserves a new series.https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Shark-Man
>>153279209Kickstarter self-publishing apparently
>>153279209>Was he genuinely purged because of comicsgate? He got to do an incentive variant for that Multiversus comic as well as a TMNT variant after the relaunchI dont think he's burned bridges as much as say EVS because he really wasn't that vocal or active in his participation/support but I think he'd rather focus on his own projects
Cherry Poptart
>>153273629Thanks
>>153277942I stopped reading marvel about that time: 2016Then I dropped DC in 2020-2021Nowdays I just read old stuff, hardcovers, TPB softcover and cheapbooks.
>>153280417nta but you're welcome
Oh yeah, that happened.
>>153278452I actual own one or two issues, and read the first trade at my library. It's fine. Nothing special, but better than it looks. Comes off as someone wanting to pull an IHFL but with super heroes.
>>153283593What is this about?
>>153260921i forgot
>>153286017Bump
>>153267228>>153278004Thats the same thing with Crossgen. Both companies gave their creative teams more rights than your standard Marvel/Disney contracts. So they will never use them, because money.
>>153287778And Crossgen is a forgotten gem too.
>>153283559>Comes off as someone wanting to pull an IHFL but with super heroes. The problem is that makes no sense. Cape comics are already ultra violent, TOO violent for their own good most of the time. There's no real subversion or parody to be found in that concept in a world where The Boys and Invincible are mainstream. Its very existence is redundant and pointless.
