In the movie they have Batman say he only ever learned how to fight and intimidate criminals and never thought he'd ever have to investigate a crime to explain why it takes an entire year for him to figure it out. Comic Batman would just stare at props in his batcave, say "What does it all mean???" to himself and never do any basic investigative work until it was conveniently too late.

He also justified no Batman vs Grundy after Batman chases down Mickey Sullivan (Mickey Chen in the movie) because Grundy had a mental illness and we needed to be more thoughtful on how to approach the mentally ill.
