Sometimes I feel like modern comics are harder to read because they seem to be written in a way that only particular people from of a certain age and culture understand. You see, old comics were written for everybody, with themes anybody could understand:The original Metamorpho run starts with Rex trying to have a normal dinner but taking advantage of his abilities for casual things. Suddenly, a bus with children has an acciddent and he saves them; quickly, after the kids are taken out of the bus, Rex tries to comfort them with silly transformations so that they forget their shock and fear, and start laughing. With this, you quickly undertsand what kind of man Rex is, what does he do and how does he feel. But the latest Metamorpho run is written like it's a sitcom featuring characters that you are supposed to know, making dialogues that feel like a pastiche to some show, who knows which one(s).And the transition from sitcom to mythical-cosmic battle to solaris feels juxtaposed, like, to have some impact.Ironic since the Superman movie was meant to attract new fans, and I have found myself enjoying the old runs, Year One or even the awful Terrifics run rather than this one which some people may have picked up as their first Metamorpho run.Can someone figure out why is this comic written like this? I am out of the loop, as I am not from the USA
So, some comics are meant to be humorous.

>>153271873It’s pretty much just Gen X faggots like Mark Russell and Al Ewing who do this “daw shucks Thats comix xD” faggotry. I hate it. Not that theyre the only ones but two that come to mind. I hate all of their comics.
>>153271873Al Ewing is a bad writer, yes.

>>153271873I think that Ewing (and this is a total guess because I haven't been able to read too much of his comics) is trying to find a new angle for a character with which to flex his continuity knowledge, as he's probably bored and limited working for current-day big two comics. I don't think he's particularly good at being funny, poignant, or moving in any real way. I don't think he has much of a passion for what he's writing. I watched an interview with him and he may be slightly autistic in a way that makes his stories fall kinda flat.

>>153271873Modern comics are written for people who are super into comics since they don't care about getting new readers. Old comics were largely self contained with beginning middle and end and told in a clear straightforward manner.
modern comics are narcissistic teenagerstake themselves too seriously to have any genuine fun but incapable of seeing their own horrific immaturity
