Today it's issue 3 wherein Gwen's having some problems fitting in.Previous >>153260212
The first little hints that things werre not happy for Gwen back in the real world.
Next time, Gwenpool vs. MODOK.
Oh nice. Thanks OP. Love this series.
>>153272365One of my favorite covers from Unbelievable, it's shame the two couldn't come to an agreement>>153272382As I said before I like how Batroc is 100% willing to turn in Gwen for being a fraud, not immediately sympathetic, and Gwen has to convince him to give her a chance with her meta-knowledge. It feels more earned this way. I feel like Batroc still isn't completely convinced she isn't crazy but it's just enough to pique his curiosity and not tattle on her.>>153272421M.O.D.O.K. is a bad person but a good boss, very responsible making sure everything is on record for bookkeeping.>>153272438Love Ronnie looking out for Gwen early on. She's still stern/making Gwen work for her money but I think she gets how Gwen's in over her head and offers help in ways only she can. Also in retrospect I imagine she feels somewhat responsible given, as she herself said, is enabling Gwen since the start by putting her costume on her.>>153272470M.O.D.O.K. severely overestimating Gwen is funny>>153272488Batroc coming around to being the other one to help give Gwen the legs she needs to stand on in this world. I think it's a fair progression where he's intrigued enough by her powers but still wants her to at least be able to handle a gun and combat basics, which Gwen herself will come to appreciate in time. Also like how he is one of the first ones to buy into Gwen's belief she's in a comic book, it makes for some neat dialogue here about his role as the 'villain'. Given Batroc is the only character here (besides MODOK) with real history it makes sense to use him for this, and I like the introspection as to whether Captain America really has it any better as a hero in a never-ending struggle, which even Gwen seems to question>>153272514I like how Strange notes/interacts with Gwen's pink speech-bubbles. As Gwen would note later here her being an interdimensional immigrant it's cool to have the Sorcerer Supreme as a universal customs guy
>>153273615I also like how Strange justifies his world being comic books and movies in Gwen's: considering what he's seen this is not that high up on the bizarre, and thinking his world is the one making impressions on Gwen's, rather than the other way around, is no less probable.>>153272560First snippets of Gwen's parents and her past. It's got a pretty melancholy feel to it reminding Gwen of all she left behind, and especially with Gwen thinking it'd be better if her family just forgot all about her. You go off of her initial attitude that Gwen just came to Marvel for fame and fun, but these pages add a lot of weight to that decision to abandon her previous life, and makes you curious if things were so bad there were other factors for leaving.>>153272590Equally sweet/concerning that Gwen carries Cecil's skull everywhere like that...>>153272619>Make a joke about feet, I dare youkek. I like the dynamic these two already have going>>153272636Gwen's first real test next issue. Thanks for continuing the storytime OP. #3 shows Gwen isn't quite as alone as she initially thought and is a good pick-me-up from her low point in the last issue. I like how she manages to convince Batroc and slowly wins him over with taking her training seriously, and Ronnie comes through with introducing her to Strange to get her fully settled into 616, albeit with drawbacks. Batroc/Gwen's dialogue is fun, I like how he takes interest in Gwen's unique perception of him/the world and the comments about his role as a stereotypical 'le villain'. The highlight is definitely the first look into Gwen's past though, it'll be a while before we see more but it adds a somber layer to Gwen I think she benefits from, showing her choice to leave home may have been based on more complicated issues and making her grasp the ramifications of that choice.
>>153272394>One woman uttering crazed nonsense is plenty for ze teamYou can never have too many crazy bitches, Batroc
>>153272608>>153272470Where does MODOK get his giant-sized prescription glasses?
>>153275350The eye doctor
>>153272365Marshmallow Gwen is best Gwen
So when do we get to the special issue where I marry Gwen and we hold hands for 50 oversized pages along with a 12 page bonus story by Joe Kelly about how I help her with her morning routine
>>153275964I hate that term because I hate that series. It's pretty clear that all Leah really got out of the series was "funny fourth wall meta stuff lol" much like how a lot of people read Kelly's Deadpool and mostly took away the humorous stuff.
>>153277023>much like how a lot of people read Kelly's Deadpool and mostly took away the humorous stuff.I don't really see how that could happen. Kelly's run is basically wall to wall edge with black humor mixed in. I've never heard people say it's a funny run. Just that they think Deadpool is a wacky character, which usually means the closest they've gotten to ever reading any Deadpool was Daniel Way (unless the newer issues are more wacky, I haven't really kept up with the character since Posehn and Duggan parted ways and there was that soulless push of him having like 6 or so books at the time)
>>153277023Fair but "marshmallow" does feel like a fitting adjective to describe best Gwen
>>153277112Because most people didn't actually read the series to see that a lot of it is about a mentally unstable jackass fighting against his nature. They just saw stuff like the Shoryuken page or the ASM flashback issue or an out of context image of him kicking Cap in the nuts.
>>153272503That's a very poignant callout by Batroc, there. It's easier to think of comics via arcs and 'the good guys always win' but there's always another arc. It is a pretty grim fate when you think about it as a whole. In that regard, being a mook ain't all that bad, is it? As long as you don't die and get forgotten.
>>153278132Captain America in particular has had a rough history when you think about it. In just the last 20 years he died during Civil War, was super-aged to Old Man Rogers, then retconned to be a fucking Hydra Agent, the sheer lack of stability for big-name characters is insane. Compared to that at least Batroc probably has time to take a vacation now and then.
>>153278432They don't know what to do with him because they don't really want him around. You can tell on some level that Marvel since Quesada sees Steve as kind of lame. They tried to replace him with Bucky, they've spent 10 years trying to replace him with Falcon. It never works because Steve is very popular with nearly everyone and even normalfags on both sides of the aisle have things about him that they like and admire. But Marvel seems utterly committed to doing everything it can to fuck with and deemphasize him.
