Pretty standard Lincoln and Friends episode with Stella in the lead kind of. I do enjoy when the friends are somewhere outside of school. Simple episode and put Ramirez in a nicer light where she's seemingly doing things to understand her students versus the episode where she froze the school. The other one was fine too, Luan and Luna finally get an episode together. The ending was the best part.

Dude, if I was a little less ill I'd be pretty exuberant right now. Even more than usual after a good couple of episodes. I don't know how to rate these since the season is split up and we haven't gotten the back half, I don't know if this is season 8 or 9 or what, but whatever it is, I'm starting to feel it's the best season since s4 so far. That's been in the back of my mind ever since I saw that Bed episode which impressed me so much. The one that takes place all in the second floor? That's the one that really made me feel like this crew can make true TLH. They get the show and they can do it. Every season since 7 has been better than the last and I think now, I don't know...I want to say it's almost as good as it was in the post-Savino, pre-timeskip era, ie not as good as 1-3 but still pretty good. They've really repaired a lot of the direction. Lori's back, there's less ghosts and magic, the average episode quality is quite decent. I hesitate to call it a renaissance since to have a renaissance I think you need to crater and I don't think the show ever really cratered in the level some other shows have (I have my theory on why TLH has been fairly resistant to seasonal rot and it's that it's because they never character assassinated the cast; most of the damage was sustained by the setting with the supernatural stuff, or in the form of reversible acts like physically distancing Lori from the rest of them, not the cast itself per se, which let it avoid the truly catastrophic problems other long runners end up suffering which usually come as a result of mishandling their casts imo.)

Anyway, as you can see, I was so gassed by these episodes I ended up waxing about the show as a whole and what a wonder I find it to be, how amazing that it can still be this good in season 9. They really got me going. The show's been doing some pretty interesting things lately as far as sister combos go, and they always at least work out, or in cases like this they work out great.

Luna/Luan is a pairing I've always wanted to see explored more since they're in the unique position of both being in showbusiness. I've always thought they should do some kind of sister act even back in s1, thought they should do something like Luan opens for Luna and the Goats or something like that, end up competing for the spotlight. This felt pretty close to that concept so I was really gratified by it as a fan.

Man, I guess I should start with the Luna/Luan episode since I can't stop talking about it and it was such classic Loud House, even the pool episode was a very enjoyable watch and I'll get to it, but I've got to get it straight and do one at a time instead of just gushing about what a good mood they put me in. I LOVE it when both episodes are good by the way. That's such an awesome feeling to just get a good buzz the entire way through and there's nothing to harsh it. It's a shame Wylde Pak didn't air after TLH this week, otherwise, man, then you're REALLY talking about a straight up power hour, that show has only two bad episodes thus far.

Like I said, man, let me start with Stage Combat. Can't even concentrate, hungover again, but these eps were like a bowl of tomato soup. I unironically feel better than I did before I watched them. Let's see. Well, like I said, the protag pairing was really good, Luanna is really underexplored for how much they have in common. I feel like this is the first ep where they were really, really together for all of it and it's almost like fanservice, I enjoy their interactions that much, since they're legit two of my favorites. Speaking of, even better, they incorporated the whole family into the episode, it wasn't just the two of them. Lola for example was hilarious in this. She's awful but so, so loveable too, just perfect.
>>
>>153279692
Oh yeah, and while I love TLH, it's not really the type of show that makes me laugh out loud usually, but there was one of those in this episode: when Luna presses her forehead against Luan's and starts shout-singing 'LALALA' and staring into her eyes while driving, that shit made me laugh. Good one.

Anyway, the episode had a good premise, and I liked the slow escalation of it, the first half was pretty much all really good vibes as they developed their respective acts and entertained their siblings. Very, very comfy and good for the ep too, if you have them at each other's throats from the start I don't think it would work, it only means something because we see the great relationship the two share in the beginning. Oh, and did you notice? I thought FOR SURE they were going to sabotage each other, but that never happened. Like when Luan brought Luna tea, I thought that she'd accidentally put in something Luna was allergic to, and that misunderstanding would lead to Coconuts' legs getting smashed and then Luna's snaredrums cut, you know how that type of plot usually goes, but they didn't do that and I really think that led to a much more unique plot with a much better, brighter vibe. Even when it turned sour they still had them truly just compete on merit and who was better and I think that makes the whole thing a lot more compelling. They never really showed each other malevolence, just competitiveness, and I think that essential good nature really enhances the feel of the episode and truly makes it seem more like they're sisters having a tiff instead of just, like, housemates turned enemies. This is the type of stuff I mean when I say this show doesn't usually screw up the cast's characterization and how that has really been to it's benefit over the long term.

Anyway, very comfy, cozy episode that mostly takes place in or around the house, which I always appreciate. Just a classic style ep that featured pretty much everyone. There was one thing that did bother me which I was ready to complain about in the big dinner scene, and that was the absence of Lori. But then I looked closer and I realized: Lynn wasn't there either. Pretty interesting since Lucy was and she had a speaking role even, and it's the same VA. I guess, like Lori, they couldn't find anything for her to do and wanted to make sure everyone that showed up onscreen got to talk. Speaking of, another thing that I thought was cool was that the parents weren't around. I personally really dig that, gives it that s1 vibe, I love when they get what they need just from the siblings, to me that's the concept at it's purest. Also was surprised at Luna driving, I didn't know she'd gotten her license, and I thought Lori could have had that, but then we wouldn't have gotten the best joke of the episode, plus, after the car crash they have that moment where it's just the two of them, and I thought that was important, the intimacy of it being just them so they can be as frank and honest as possible.

Lastly, it ends with that musical number, which I really can't say enough about. I think the musical aspect is something that a lot of people really underrate when it comes to this show and I really believe it gives it something more. Heck, the Emmy it won for best writing was for a musical episode, that Luna one, so I think it's hard to argue otherwise. I believe this is one of the only times we've heard Luan sing solo and I'm very high on that. Luna, as always, was awesome in her part. The whole song was brief but I really dug it and it makes the episode feel, to me, extra special. Like I said, it gives it more. Anyway, ultimately, this was a pretty character-based story, which are the type I prefer, and the quality of it was high. Definite thumbs up from me.

On to the pool one. What a charming, sun drenched, cool episode. Some real lemonade for the soul. Everyone looks great in it too; I'd seen the stills from it before and thought "well, even if it isn't good, at least it's got a couple of nice shots for the fanservice crowd", but forget that, it was good. And yeah, a treasure trove for screengrabs for sure, but just as an episode I really enjoyed it. It really has that great summer-y, chilling out with your friends kind of vibe. I know I'm using that word a lot but these were pretty vibey episodes, especially this one. Relatively slow-paced, low concept stuff which, to me, plays to the show's strengths. Bombing a neighbor's pool without permission with your friends is pure teenage suburbia, man. Pure summer. Cool concept.

There's less to discuss about this episode as far implications or reaching back for s1 dynamics go, but there was one thing about I thought was pretty meaningful, and that's that to me this is the episode that truly confirms Kara is a straight up member of the crew now and a regular, which I think is cool. Nice pick-up imo, I like Kara.

Anyway, as for the episode itself, the pacing was really relaxed, which I appreciated, it felt just right for the mood of what it was trying to portray. They didn't try to do too many things, a lot of the meat of the episode was them either just relaxing by or in the pool, the fact a lot of it didn't have a soundtrack besides bird calls or regular ambient noise made it feel even more chill in a certain seense, you only get a little bit of guitars here and there and then the big musical jam at the end where the problem is resolved and the principal is partying with them. kek, speaking of, like I said I hadn't seen any of the episode beforehand, so when Ramirez was like let me join you I was stomping one foot like the wolf in Roger Rabbit, 'let me see it, let me see it!'. The principal in her swimsuit did not disappoint.

Anyway, what can I say? Pretty fun and sexy episode with an excellent atmosphere to it, it's going into my regular rotation for sure. I can't think of anything I didn't like about it- within, of course, the constraints of it being a Lincoln and the gang episode. This is about as good as Linc and friends episodes get imo.

Wait, no, there is one thing I didn't like about it, and that's that it used exaggerated, what I would call 'gumball-ish' faces on two occasions. One is when Stella freaks out and tells everyone to get out of the pool. Now keep in mind it's all relative. When I say exaggerated I mean it's offmodel for TLH, not completely bonkers like Gumball, but still, that's something I really don't like when it happens in Loud House. I think the show gets a lot of juice from it's highly consistent artstyle including how they draw expressions, you get what you need from the characters and the situations, not the funny faces. I prefer when they stick strictly to the style. But anyway, there was that one, and a shot of Stella from the exact side I think when she was yelling also and it kind of looked like she was going to bite Rusty's head off iirc. I didn't like either of those. But the rest of it was nice: good shot framing, the straight POV from above for example of Lincoln and Kara stretching out on floating pool toys was a super sweet shot and probably the one I'll remember most from it, but in general the whole thing looked quite good.

Anyway, the episode was funny, it was chill, it made me feel good watching it, and, you know, ultimately that's really all I ask. It made me feel like I had a good time joining Lincoln and his friends on that day, I could definitely relate to the scenario and how it was portrayed so the whole thing connected with me really well. Perhaps your mileage will vary if you're a sister fundamentalist that demands they always appear, a position I def respect, but I personally really enjoyed it. I think it was a good one.

Personally, I think the ending was kind of ridiculous. How could balancing coffee be worth $5,000?
>>
>>153279883
Oh, without a doubt, the coffee dude's act seemed weak to me but to their credit they did have it be a recurring plot thing that this guy was in the background working on his number while they were spying on each other. It'd make more sense if they sabotaged each other's acts and coffee guy won by default, but that wouldn't have made for as good an episode imo. I did appreciate the fact they mentioned it at the end how 'we threw this together last minute and almost won, imagine if we'd had time to prepare!', I thought that was a cool notion and I liked that it being a spur of the moment thing they put together with a bunch of wrecked instruments and comedic props and stuff from the crash ended up factoring in, the fact it was almost a spontaneous thing by comparison yet still good enough to make it a tight race as the rich guy said, just off combining their talents. I dug that.

This is the POV shot I was talking about earlier. The whole episode looks good I thought, not in the sense of spectacular panorama shots or backgrounds or sequences like sometimes you'll see this show do, more in the nuts and bolts moment to moment stuff, the vibe or atmosphere of it. Really warm and summery without going overboard and making the entire gimmick 'summer' like sometimes happens, kind of a nice subtle overall tone. There's definitely way more to the Luanna episode, more to the story, but there was just something about this one visually that I really enjoyed.

...And, definitely what I was waiting for, her in her bathing suit. The swimskirt style is a bit modest for my tastes, a simple one piece would have been fine, but maybe they were trying to give it more flair. At least we got some sweet armpits. Anyway, she unironically has a pretty good body. Nice calves.

I'd like to see you come up with some of those schemes. Lincoln does pretty good with the resources available to him. Like his plan to help Bobby get Lori back for instance: having the idea to replace a contestant on the Love Boat, then finding a contestant that's close enough physically to Bobby that he can be passed off as him in disguise to unsuspecting producers, then analyzing that guy's internet presence to find out what Bobby might have that he could trade with him for his spot, then coaching him through the seduction of his sister, being his man on the inside to push him over the other contestants, he really did a lot. That whole thing was one plan, and one he came up with and executed under some pretty serious time constraints.
