The story is very bland. It feels like a Disney direct to video sequel, but with a higher animation budget because they took from the voice acting budget.

As much as I hate pseudo-anime style, the backgrounds and scene art were very good in most shots, and the action wasn't plagued with modern anime "slopkuga," and actually had decent choreography and set pieces, whilst still keeping animation quality high. This is probably what kept me watching to the end, movie just looks beautiful.

The lore concept that sonam tricked the lion turtles into making her the staff, letting her abuse the spirit world to make people live unnaturally long lives and become op airbenders and established an air bending deva supremacy empire over the skies with a 5000 year long empire with a city of gold that sits on top of a never ending tornado that crushes the dirt walking beasts beneath and then dies in shame and her ghost lives in the shame realm is a neat lore.

In my biased rose tinted lenses it was a 10/10 all it need was more tophBut as from a rational critical view it has a weak plot, it seemed pretty generic, the animation was good for west slop but ATLA was always a peak master class in western animation taking inspiration from literally the best japanese animations.So I give it a 7/10, which averages out to an 8.5.
