Joe Chill killed only two people, which convinved one to go on to save thousands, and even the entire world a handful of times. Ergo, He's a hero.

I like how the DCAU took the angle of never having Bruce figure out who did it, or why. Was it a jumpy crook just out for a quick buck? A planned hit? A man who just wanted to kill somebody? We will never know, and the story doesn't try to dwell on that question. The end result is what matters: Gotham lost its best, and a young boy had his entire life ripped away from him.
Bruce doesn't remember the man who did it. The face is a shadow, the silhouette indistinct. The only thing he does remember, in absolutely impeccable detail, is the gun. The gun isn't just a weapon, here. It's even more than being the source of Bruce's particular aversion to firearms. It's an impersonal object, representing the entire system of Gotham's corruption and criminality that led to the murder.

Technically, didn't Joe Chill in that one act of savagery inadvertently create far more long-term good for the world than he took away?

Everyone hates this show (it was better than S&L’s third season and Flash s9, be fucking honest) but I thought CW’s Gotham Knights had a brilliant twist on Joe Chill praised as a hero by the people of Gotham for capping two rich folk.

Been tinkering with a Batman comic myself (obviously nothing official) where Bruce isn't interested in personal vengeance because he knows Joe was just after pearls, and that he's more a sign of Gotham's infection than the root of it. Might be a bit too accepting for a man so influenced by the death of his parents, but idunno it fits Bats as far as I can tell.

How could he fucking do this?
I looked it up and damn. In the Chill of the Night straight up adapts Batman issue 47 and just adds Spectre and Phantom Stranger and the supervillains but I never knew Joe Chill is that fucking old as a name and was created by Bill Finger. Based. That guy created virtually everything everyone knows about Batman except for Jerry and the Joker.
