They knew the /ss/ wincest would be too powerful for the internet to handle

Real answer is that they wanted to be more gynocentric as always to appeal to shitsneys eternal audience of little girls and woman children. It shouldve been about a son learning magic with his hot mom with incest undertones because fuck appealing only to femoids and fuck disney
>>
>>153282069
It’s a very girly plot full of witches, better to make it a relatable girl.
A boy would want an action adventure even with a female mentor. Like in Wizard of Earthsea
>>
>>153282069
What happened? Elio and Strange World flopped.
>>
>>153282108
Holy shit I forgot those movies existed.
>>
>>153282099
>>153282108
how about making boy movies that aren't gay shit
>>
>>153282069
I am so tired of seeing this 3-D animation style that Disney uses in every single one of their movies. Everyone has the exact same face look and stupid facial expressions.
>>
>>153282118
people already thought hexed with a boy was more gay shit
>>
>>153282069
No celebrity VA. They were looking for a black-white mixed race youngish VA. None that’s popular enough exists.
>>
>>153282069
Strange World and Elio did dead numbers.
K-Pop Demon Hunters did great for the competition.
So they made it a girl movie.

>changes your male protagonist to a female one

You know, I could see that. CLEARLY the boy leads were what killed those movies, gotta change the strategy!

I can't even tell which one of these is supposed to be the mom.

This feels like the intended audience are millennial women.

I wouldn't really describe any of the Earthsea books as action-adventure
>>

They already had two extremely gay boys Disney leads already. But this time this one is hot. But we can't have hot teenager boys
>>

>>
>>153284216
The girl is described as "unconventional."
The mom is described as a "type a mom", it's aimed at younger millennial/older gen z women starting parenthood.

You wanna know why a lot of these recent Pixar child/parent movies suck so bad?
The best generational trauma stories typically focus on the parent generation in the middle. Look at King Of the Hill. The parent revisiting the follies of his own past to be on the lookout for what is and isn't a learned behavior.
All these Disney and Pixar movies are moreso like, validation fantasies.

Look at it like this, the shallow teenage boy power fantasy involves an otherwise unremarkable guy being given awesome training/weapons/powers, slugging it out with some equally awesome opposing force and definitively proving just how cool he was deep down as he proves himself in front of the other badasses and the hot chick. Really they all should have brought this out of him sooner

The average shallow teenage girl fantasy, be it romance novels or these family stories, is an inverse. It's the hot guy admitting he prefers her over the "less special" women, it's her parents admitting they were wrong to doubt her and she is beautiful just the way she is, it's everyone who judged or talked down to her either turning heel or getting social comeuppance.

That's how you pander along gendered lines. And in the case of the latter, it's much easier to create illusions of depth like (see: 13 Reasons Why).
>>
>>153284666
I'll even go on the record saying that the weird recent emphasis on "childhood trauma" isn't anything new, but the further you go back, the more those stories are about adults in the present day having to confront those traumas in order to confront the here and now, coming to terms and accepting their pasts.

For example, Stephen King does this a lot. Horror and mystery genre tend to use this to their advantage all the time because said trope fits said genres like a glove.

These Disney/Pixar movies are wish-fulfillment in that they pander not to the confrontation of childhood trauma but the wish to completely undo it.

For instance, Encanto. You hear this whole generational trauma lens to the movie. But ultimately the older generations past goes barely explored and the plot is solved by the simple act of "Abuela was wrong and mirabel is awesome enough to make her see that."

But imagine if the movie was about Bruno, who left the house all those years ago yet has returned hoping to confront that mysterious prophecy. Mirabel moreso functioning as a sidekick representing the future he wants to protect and his reason for confronting these longstanding fears throughout the emotional turmoil.

Now you have something actually leaning to the theme way more, but you also have a movie much harder to market.

The character is probably so sissified that Disney execs realize it was going to bomb with boys anyway, so might as well turn him into a female.
>>
>>153284216

So like 90% of Disney's recent films, got it.

another complete miss from the concept alone. prepubescent and teenage girls don't want to adventure and learn with mom, they want to expore something on their own with cool friends and sexy boy love interest. that's what the witch represents, approachable yet edgy female power. and it's why every magic series is set in a boarding school or they have dead parents

disney once again proves they have no idea what anyone wants

>>153284216
walt disney himself only cared about marketing to women, it's where the money is.
>>
>>153282069
Damn, that might have been interesting. Oh well, got to brainwash more young girls into believing in a smooth transition of power.

Anon, this movie isnt for girls. Its for middle aged women. Hopefully mothers.
>>
>>153285638
i know all these films are just a way to entice the parents, but they need to delight the kids too or they won't get a nostalgia payoff when the current batch grows up. nostalgia is legitimately priceless and can be endlessly milked.
>>
>>153285770
I know.
But the current creators actively hate disnry and families.
They are maladjusted wierdos with no one reigning them in.

Look at what they did with live action lilo and stitch. It killed a valuable IP and tarnished the brand permanently.

This is, thankfully, yhe kss generation of disney cultists. Mainly because they push lifestyles and im not talking about just the lgbtqa thing, that are anathema to families and children.

Often fits in. A key difference of a mary sue vs a gary stu narrative, typically speaking, is that the Mary Sue often holds much more talks around how inherently amazing and special he is. This coming within both the context of the adventure and the more slice of life chapters. She'll tell off her bully or those around her will stand up for her. The chapters leading up to her faceoff with a given villain will be a celebration of how strong and brave she is.

The Gary Stu, by contrast, is given far more action, he'll do the badassMcCool thing, creating moments in which the characters sing his praises, he'll physically do battle with his bully to prove his dominance, and the leadup to his final confrontation will definitely have similar celebration of him, but in a more pumping him up "you got this, go kick his fucking ass" kinda way while a love interest takes the role of a more sensual emotional support for him.

There's a social element to power fantasies that will manifest differently between the two.

Okay queermo. Let's put it in economic terms.
Little girls with families have disposable income
Families dont want their daughter indoctrinated by perverts
Children indoctrinated dont grow up to have families who will create more customers

Di you get it fag?
Do you understand?
Its retarded
A business strategy agreed upon by short sighted sociopaths and bankrolled by peopke who want us all sterile sick enslaved and culled.

Fatherless and/or Lesser Father
>>
>>153287250
No he's totally right.
We've all seen that poll recently and while emphasis on friend groups ranked fairly high across both sexes, emphasis on family was 1st place for girls and like, 10th or 15th for boys.
>>153287433
>>153287536
The real problem is that it's a lot harder to sell boys on stuff made for girls than it is to sell girls on stuff made predominantly for boys.

Angst, drama, et cetera are massive turn-aways for the male crowd.
It seemingly relates to their own lack of right to emotions. It's hard to explain but like, a girl ugly-crying over the couch would get her sympathy, a guy doing the same thing will net him both sympathy and pity. Too emotional and men and women alike start assuming him gay a lot of the time. It's an insecurity spot for them.

Romance is a unique one. We've seen plenty of female-written/female-oriented anime get unisex appeal and it's considered a unisex genre over there, but the West seems to constantly fail to replicate that. My own theory is that it's specifically because the guys in those anime are allowed to have their anxious moments, dense moments, stupid moments et cetera while a lot of Western romance media makes acts of service, figuring out gestures, and what have you look effortless. Even stuff like date planning is much more mutual in media over there.
In general, the rule seems to be that the more light-hearted a female oriented piece of media is, the more the male crowd will be willing to show up. Which explains how Disney had such unisex appeal so long despite being so female oriented
>>
>>153288282
You can also see this in romantic subplots in male-oriented media. The flirting is less subtle, the girls take a lot more initiative at the very least in signaling interest.

It deliberately plays into the fantasy of not having to worry about hints or cues as much.
>>
>>153288282
The top male oriented shounen and seinen are highly emotional, have tons of drama, and lots of romance. Yes its clumsy in a few but it's there and we'll liked. Girls LOVE shounen and male aimed seinen.

The problem is that you honestly think that if men dont display emotions like a woman then he doesnt have any.
We do.

Also disney thrived not for lack of emotion. But u derstanding the emotion shown, sincerity, and good child aimed and friendly stories.
Now its just all mean spirited srlfish narcissistic gynocentric wierdos. All portraying unironically evil or strange unlikeable people as heroes and good.

Western medua hates males in general.
