Issue 4, in which MODOK has some issues with his employee.Previous >>153272365
With MODOK gone, next issue is a team up with... Miles-Man. And the first (but not last) fill-in artist.
>>153285647Man, it truly was an all-new, all-different time
>>153286201I do like the contrast between making her a fan of all the shitty ANAD heroes but also a gun nut who likes shooting things.
>>153285797my boy returns
>>153285634Batroc's training continues. I enjoy showing Batroc taking Gwen under his wing and her skills demonstratively improving. It's good development so they don't come out of nowhere, but also establishes she's got a ways to go. Also just nice seeing Batroc teaching her, they have a sweet mentor/mentee dynamic and teaching her to fight dirty feels on-brand.>>153285647>Through no fault of my ownIm-fucking-plying, Gwen. She has a cute bedroom, I like sharing this pic a lot for Gwen in a more casual setting. Also holy shit Ronnie's costume cost her $500,000?! No wonder it doesn't have pants, it was probably to save money.>>153285672>Batroc knew?>Ah dang itKek, nice Gwen. Also not the best time to be snrt-ing at his claim>>153285686>Gwen explaining her other super-power besides knowing secret identities is situational plot-armorWill be important soon>>153285695Really like how this showdown is set-up and feels like a reasonable performance for Gwen at this stage. She comes prepared, knowing what MODOK is capable of, and given she'd just gotten a paycheck it's believable she'd have the funds to buy things like a one-use personal force-field and using the shooting skills Batroc just taught her to nail MODOK's instakill gem. She's clearly the underdog but it's believable. Also liked the bit about having one of Stark's powers now (money), the fight has good bants>"Fight dirty mademoiselle"Zat's my girl. Not just with the mine but kicking him in the fuckin eye, damn>>153285767>K.kek. There's a lot of individual panels of Gwen I like but this one stands out, that barely together 'I know i'm fucked' lookAlso love the following full page art>>153285797RE-ENTEREven with Batroc's crash course in basic combat, a meager budget, planning ahead and cheap shots, it was still a longshot Gwen besting MODOK alone so I like her bringing Cecil back courtesy of Strange as her aforementioned deus-ex, though given the previous issue it's not even out of left field.
>>153287022It's cool in general to let Cecil return as a ghost, he was very likeable and it's nice to give him more following his demise, especially with taking vengeance on MODOK. Considering the world they're in death is rarely permanent anyhow, and while being dead isn't ideal his power-set/aesthetic at least got a big boost>>153285834Gwen is so excited to see Cecil again, it's adorable. Not exactly mindful of his shock of having died suddenly, but with how relieved she is to have her first/only friend in this world back I can understand her being less than tactful.>>153285847Next arc begins with as Gwen the new de-facto commander of MODOK. Hope it doesn't go to her head It willThanks for keeping up the storytimes. #4 is mostly all action but a really good fight between Gwen and MODOK. A lot of setup went in with Gwen's facade crashing down and pays off nicely with Gwen putting Batroc's lessons to good use, showing she can be resourceful/under-handed without powers and her attempt to bring Cecil back yields rewarding results, the victory feels earned. Lots of good bits in the exchange between Gwen/MODOK in particular, this is pretty much his exit from her story but he serves as a great classic Marvel villain for Gwen to get situated with, served a purpose of reminding Gwen of her place and giving her reason to crawl her way up the ladder, stop believing she's invincible and make her think before she acts. Cecil's return is welcomed, as both Gwen's first friend and the first to suffer the consequences of being Gwen's friend, it's very sweet of her to want to bring him back so much considering she's mostly the reason he died in the first place. Nice to have him back to complete the cast, even if he's not all there.
>>153287051It's an action issue but it works by actually building off of stuff introduced each issue and likewise how the stuff Batroc told her about fighting was used. It's a shame Hastings is stuck doing FNAF tie-in comics instead of being in North's position given that he's a way better writer.
>>153287334I wish Hastings worked on more things I was interested in, but he probably makes more money working on FNAF and Bandy graphic novels than he did at Marvel. Also he has a DnD comic at Dark Horse releasing in a few months. I think it's just a one-shot though.
>>153288156I can't imagine anyone makes more money working on FNAF comics than one would working at Marvel of all companies.I think the reason he hasn't returned is because Marvel doesn't want to pay whatever rates he charges for
>>153285647>that picture with her and Jane ThorHuh, did she get that taken when she'd met her last issue? Can't imagine she'd have gotten another chance
>>153287022>>153285647>Ronnie's costume cost her $500,000what the fuck is it made of?
>>153289793That shade of pink is rare, also I think Ronnie's pretty much scamming her.
>>153288234It depends on whether or not he gets any royalties. If they sell well and he makes royalties from that as the writer then it's probably a decent amount of money.
>>153289950>Royalties from GwenI'd not considered that before. I had assumed being she was made by Marvel first (albeit just as an alt cover) and Hastings only came in later to write her comic they'd own her outright. If they have to pay Hastings in general to use her that might also contribute to why she's not often used
>>153290921He almost certainly gets little to no royalties from Gwenpool stuff since Marvel has always been notoriously shitty with royalties. Remember that Starlin notoriously made more money from KGBeast having a small appearance in Batman vs. Superman than he did from everything Thanos has been used in. Marvel owns the character so he wouldn't make anything from her use and I'm sure the muddled nature of her creation would be used to cheat him (and Bachalo who did the initial cover) out of money.By royalties I meant from writing the FNAF comics. I have no idea what royalties from comic/graphic novels sales he'd make from those books.
>>153285661>I've got enchanted fish lungs for everyone to eat!>So we can breathe underwater?>...for a snack, Tony, don't we have scuba gear?made me chuckle
>>153292622Terrible Eye is the best. Shame she's shown up in nothing at all since the end of the series though.
>>153289793>what's it made ofI know it looks like cheap spandex/pleather but considering how well it holds up against explosions and damage, it's probably made of some genuinely strong material to hold itself together. She was fighting Sentinels in her first issue and the only damage incurred was to the mask, minus the legs it does its job in keeping her protected so I assume it's made of something durable enough to justify the insane cost
