And when they do try to get a bit silly, it's almost never in good faith. It's always parody level or heavily self-aware/self-referential and written more like a full blown comedy.

Modern mainstream humor isn't funny. The writers either are unable to be funny or are not allowed to be otherwise they'd offend someone. Or even worse, can only be "funny" through outdated meme humor that stopped being funny months after the media comes out.
