So are we just not allowed to have hokey, corny capestuff with sincerity anymore? Everything in mainstream is hyper dramatized with world-threatening stakes or city-wide destructive action sequences. And when they do try to get a bit silly, it's almost never in good faith. It's always parody level or heavily self-aware/self-referential and written more like a full blown comedy.
>>153290669>It's always parody level or heavily self-aware/self-referential and written more like a full blown comedy.FR, it's giving "Eat up your irony poisoned slop like good children!".
>>153290669I blame Batman TAS.
>>153290749>it’s givingplease kys
Modern mainstream humor isn't funny. The writers either are unable to be funny or are not allowed to be otherwise they'd offend someone. Or even worse, can only be "funny" through outdated meme humor that stopped being funny months after the media comes out.
>>153291560Ow, the edge. Go outside for once in your life, you troglodyte.
>>153290669>So are we just not allowed to have hokey, corny capestuff with sincerity anymoresincerity is a buzzword, its performative sincerity that relies on the assumption that you are totally so much holier than everyone else
>>153290669The idealized modernism that allowed for earnest depictions which involved humor where crushed and replaced by post-modern conception that relied on irony and deconstruction. Now we live the meta-modern paradigm where in an attempt to take the best from both the Modern and Post-Modern, modern works instead just move back and forth between the two, which works for the modernist goals of impressing ideas but fails in embracing full sincerity.
>>153290669Adam West Batman is actually hilarious but it couldn't be made today because people would sperg out about it being cringeI hate realism slop
>>153291844And people say irony poisoning isn't real.
>>153290669Batman 66 was a heavily self-aware parody. The genesis of the show as we know it comes from people riffing on the Batman serials.
>>153291207Explain.
>>153290669Irony is the new currency
>>153290669Online blogs created a career funnel that filtered hard for self-selected serious fans, not necessarily serious writers, while the industry fell down the financialization hell funnel that filters for regurgitating dead horses to beat into glue, so the creators don’t have room to stretch their legs. It’ll flip again, the self aware stuff is on its way out.
>>153290669Didn't the MCU popularize never taking anything seriously and constantly winking at the camera going 'capeshit, lmao!' for the past 20 years?
>>153290669I dislike the hokey stuff for the most part, though I despise the parodic shit. Still, the old stuff is still there for you to enjoy.
>>153290669I'd rather have more good comics instead.
>>153296120he wont
>>153297079Nice reading comprehension
>>153297079Adaptations did that in general. The first Superman movies didn't as much, from what I remember, but subsequent superhero movies had some degree of forced humor.
>>153297079>Didn't the MCU popularize never taking anything seriouslythe MCU has a lot of serious moments without much comedy, but you cant have 2 hours of nothing but melodrama which is why the bulk of the rest of the movie is action or comedy> and constantly winking at the camera going 'capeshit, lmao!' for the past 20 years?action movies had already firmly entered metatextual phase 20 years prior
>>153291654make me, you izzat-driven grandma
>>153290669Sincerity is dead, anon.
>>153290669hilarious gif
>>153296922Is it really?
>>153305419GoodThe new sincerity is just people being reactionary to popular thing, people who are too tired of thinking and just want to enjoy their slop without giving any thought to itAnd the worst part is, they arent anymore sincere than the people the seek to replace, its all performativeThey just want to position themselves as having the high ground and paint themselves as honest intellectual rebels without even seeking to understand why post-modernism likes irony (doubly ironic because post-modern thinkers are being wholeheartedly sincere in their beliefs, and "sincere" things like the genre throwback were themselves post-modern)
>>153290669Might I recommend ‘Miraculous Ladybug’?
>>153291675The fuck is that supposed to mean? Sincerity just means it comes from an honest place, not a cynical, self referential one.
>>153308845>>153307072
>>153297079Go watch Last Action Hero
>>153308845>Sincerity just means it comes from an honest placeand most people who claim sincerity arent actually, they are just projecting the image of being sincere in order to create some kind of moral high groundtheir cries ring especially hollow when they make a huge point of blaming things like post-modernism for the death of sincerity without really giving much thought to how stupid such statements are, which only ever underscores that they are no better off than the people they claim to be against>not a cynical, self referential one.this implies being metatextual is an inherently insincere which is just dumb
