The Last one went well enough.
You writing?
You reading?
>>
anything good out there? I just find tons and tons of goonslop on ao3
Only fanfics i really keep track of is one rwby writer, and only the ones that are interesting/funny
>>
The only fanfiction I ever read not including "official fanfiction" which is 90% of all content these days is the one where Shocker (the Spider-Man villain) becomes a superhero, because /co told me it was amazing. Surprise, it fucking sucked. Garbage characterization and most of it only seems to exist as an excuse to suck off Shocker for some reason. I guess every shitty character needs an obsessed fan.
>>
>>153297977
if you keep finding, as the kids say, ''goonslop'', why don't you just limit the ratings to general?
>>
>>153298095
cuz i like mature themes but i don't want to eat shit?
>>
>>153298095
You can filter the porn by excluding Explicit, but some authors put even mild violence under mature, so you’re really limiting yourself.
>>
>>153298126
i was reading an mha fic a while ago on ao3 that i found via tvtropes that was a realistic take on statuatory rape and it was a pretty good read. but its tags mean its included with all the poorly written goonslop

Same on AO3 and Tumblr except it’s people asking if they can do art of your stuff or if you take commissions. I don’t understand the scam.

That's how these kind of shotgun approaches work. If 5000 people see your AI shitpost and only 1% takes it seriously, that's still 50 people.

>>
>>153298432
Just do it yourself, Trust me when I say you'll learn more if you have to actually go through your own writing instead of leaving it all to a computer. You'll notice oddities in your prose, maybe better words to communicate what you mean, and a greater overall structure to a paragraph or sentence. When your medium is purely one element, small details matter more than you think
>>
>>153298437
Nope. Honestly, I'm hoping you can't guess it, so I'm not gonna make it any easier for you.
>>
>>153297959
The problem is that good stories, if they exist, are impossible to find. With art, you gauge the quality in a matter of seconds. With stories, it takes at least a minute unless it's utter shit, and by the 30th one, you're burned out for the day.

I usually search for smut, and you would think 34 fics would be easy to write, especially with all the lore and characters already established, but the quality to garbage ratio is absolutely grim. I guess because the entry barrier to writing is so low. But then some fandoms that are huge on /co/ barely break a dozen stories. There's actually a far greater amount of fappable original stuff that I find.

If someone can recommend some good 34 writers that write within any of the /co/ fandoms, go ahead. I'm into a lot of stuff, so as long as the core fetish is not some completely fringe crap like vore, gore or scat, I'll check it out. If you know some original writers, you can recommend those too.

You can also ask me if I can recommend you something. I follow a lot of different authors. Although ironically, the more vanilla and popular the fetish, the less recommendations I have, because it's so hard to find in a huge pile of mediocre crap.

>>153298395
My problem with AI is 99% that it's shit and only 1% that it's immoral. It's like you're reading the most generic pulp imaginable written by someone with a bad memory and terrible pacing problems. It can't even rip-off sex scenes in an exciting manner.

>>153298413
No, it usually means that they make AI write something, but then actually go over it and remove the most egregious and confusing errors before they post it. So it's closer human-assisted AI.

>thinking AI will be trained on your writings
I mean, that part is somewhat true. If it's text and it's freely available on the internet, it's free data going into the big AI machine. The thing that people get wrong is thinking this means it's going to copy your shitty Dr Who slash fiction or whatever. Fuck, earlier today I conversed with someone who thought AI literally just copypastes stuff it finds online.

A few things with that I have Asperger's I do not know how to do punctuation correctly as evidenced by a lot of people tell me on this board and I need to use speech to text and the internet program I use that on does not read it back to me. Also over time it's been a lot more me doing it than just leaving it to the computer to do it you can notice it the most with later chapters in my one fanfiction where I started making the actual chapters.

There's one fanfic on Ao3 I keep coming back to, it's a crossover between Metalocalypse and Pilot era Hazbin Hotel called "Life After Dethklok". The author did a wonderful job of keeping it true to both series and meshing them together. It felt like reading a novelization of an actual episode.

In terms of what I'm writing, I'm currently finishing up a new chapter of a crossover between Armored Core 6 and Murder Drones called "Armored Core: Copper Frost".

Previously, I wrote an Emmy the Robot fanfiction entitled, "Bringing Mary Back Redux".

Fanfiction like everything else is subject to sturgeon's law, 99% of everything is crap, and you need to sadly swim through a lot of shit to find the diamonds, but when you find good ones, it can make the bullshit worth it.
>>
>>153298480
>The problem is that good stories, if they exist, are impossible to find.
I've been on the hunt since I was a young teenager and downloaded all the stories that have even passively interested me. Everything from each author. Within the last few years, I've been going back, ranking them on how they fit my tastes and character accuracy.

At work, I learned how to use MS Access to create databases, and now I'm importing my spreadsheets into Access to create a similar database. Except instead of medical work information, it curates thousands of fanfictions for me.

There's an AI site that tries to do the same but this maps my interests over a decade, so I don't feel too bad about the time i've invested.
>>
>>153298563
NTA and my answer is only tangential to what you just said, but I'm currently working on some AO3 offline library that lets a user track what fanfictions they read, plan to red, lets them build shelves and most importantly scans for updates

would you be able to do what you did with just shelves, or should I implement more cataloging tools?

I could see that working, just off the top of my head I can see some rando inventing something akin to ooze in the Naruto setting or someone on TMNT Earth discovering something akin to jutsus.

>>
>>153298612
If that's all you need, I don't see why you would catalog more.

Just know if you ever want to expand your tracker, it would be a pain to go back and re-catalog everything. I always catalog excessively in case I ever want to add anything new in the future.

>most importantly scans for updates
I want to do something similar but I'm not good enough of a programmer. My basic attempts at site crawling were blocked; things are too advanced now.

>AI literally just copypastes stuff it finds online
People who think that are much closer to the truth than the idiots who think LLMs are something even resembling sci-fi AI that can actually "think". If you ask the AI to write Dr. Who slashfiction, it's pretty much going to regurgitate some median of all Dr. Who fanfiction and all slashfiction it has catalogued. So it could very well rip-off some of your scenes and plot points.

I wasn't aware of the bots. I've been moving away from FFN because everyone else has been doing it.
FFN has slowly and gradually been bleeding users to AO3 for years by now. It's partly because AO3 had superior features to offer, and partly because the migration created self-sustaining momentum at some point. Increasing numbers of people would go for the modern and active website instead of the old stagnant one, which would only speed up FFN's fall to irrelevance.

Tagging/filters/commenting are a lot more useful on AO3. Most of the new fandoms get an active fanbase there yet no content on FFN. Meanwhile, I don't know about others but I've had some major functionality issues with FFN. It feels like both the userbase and the owners of the site have given up on it.

There are still a handful of old-timers who keep sticking around on FFN. I'll occasionally check out some of those guys. But almost everyone else has been migrating to AO3.
>>

I wish Oneiros would finally do something with Four Deadly Secrets, it's been over a decade and last i heard (like a year or so ago) he was doing a re-write that's making progress. But i haven't heard much since.
Suffering is fine so long as it builds character and they actually grow from it. And in the case of Ruby i mean tells her team to fuck off and just runs off to kill Grimm till she dies like she wanted (and get a team that's not a bunch of little shits till she gets to a point where beating salem is actually possible even if it's more in vein of stopping her current plans and forcing her back to her castle)
Awhile back i did a bunch of background work on a potential fic with the premise that Glynda never shows up in Ep 1, Ruby's still fine because unlike canon she remembers like 1 minute earlier when Roman shot at her and she avoided it so the only real change is Ruby being at Signal instead of Beacon, and considering she was likely one of the top first years in beacon based off what we see i assume she's kinda terrifying to everyone else at signal.

The reality is no matter what, the first fic you write is going to be shit regardless of how good you feel about it now, because years later you'll look back and go, "oh god, how did I think this was decent."
On the bright side, the truth is you're going to have other ideas for new stories you'll feel just as strongly about later, if not even more, and one day after you've written and posted enough about those other stories, you can go back and rewrite your first idea to give it the justice you feel it really deserves.
>>
>>153301005
>can’t get a paragraph without it feeling bad

Fuck it feeling bad, just do it. You can always go back over and improve on it. Get some friends to help you write and proofread it. Feeling cringey? Fuck it, it's a natural part of the process. Keep at it and you'll get better.

One of the best things about fanfiction is that you can always go back and change it, it's not like a published book. I've gone back and made changes and fixes to my own work ( >>153298525 ), and even put in notes at the end of chapters letting readers know what I did, especially when it comes to adding stuff like pictures and recommendations for music.

Keep on keeping on, don't let yourself get in the way.

I've had an idea or two for fanfic but I always feel like my ideas would work better as like one-off fetish art than a full story. The only issue with that is, I can't draw for shit, and I'm too cheap and too broke to commission stuff, especially with multiple characters. I also don't trust my writing abilities enough to keep consistent and source-accurate characterization for the characters, which is why my attempts at writing thus far have been original characters and settings. All that being said I still have the idea budding to try and write something even if it turns out middling or outright bad.

I feel like "I find it hot" isn't a good idea alone for fanfic, especially anything extended to more than a short story or something

Is that the one Max Landis wrote? I always research a fanfic before read it, the TVTropes page for that one notes that characters like Iron Man and Mr Fantastic fellate Shocker for his amazing technology.
>>
>>153301372
So basically in /mlp/ circa 2014 a random thread was created that was a shitpost about what if an unlikely character gets turned into a Princess and tried to fix the world, anons find it amusing and some start to write comedic greentext of such scenario, and other anons would join and write more scenarios or write follow ups to other anons' greentexts, like a collaborative book in which another person can write the next page based on what the last person did and so on.

At the end of the first thread they had a theme, recurring gags and established character dynamics, so the anons continued with another thread keep writing about this status quo they created. When a thread was over, they continued until it became a general with multiple anons working in what basically became one big story with a huge cast, character arcs and multiple story arcs that would constantly change their status quo. Think of it like the Marvel/DC style of multiple writers working for the same universe only that the editors are fellow writers and readers too.

All this in the span of a decade with over 383 threads of anons contributing to this big story that just last year was finally finished after most of the plot threads were resolved, a grand majority of characters got resolutions to their arcs and there simply was no way to escalate further the kind of conflicts that the final arcs dealt with, so the anons of the thread unanimously agreed to finally end the story with epilogues for their characters. It's long as fuck and autistic, it's like 190k posts long and even lowballing that thing it might be in the 5 million word range, because some threads also had discussions/arguments about their story.

Some of it is just poor tagging. There’s a character that I really like and, through searching it on Twitter, I found an author who had over 100k+ words of stuff on him. Only 60 kudos, 3 total comments across all the works, barely any views.

I check the character tag daily and wondered why I’d never found the stories. This dumbass is tagging like it’s still 2013 and just discovered hashtags. They’re good stories too but good luck on anyone ever finding them.

You got me. I'm impartial to that. Don't really care for it but don't hate it either, which is funny because thats basically 95% of The Loud House's fanbase. They've even got an offchute called The Sin Kids, which is just Lincoln having a child with each sister. I'll admit it's an interesting concept and I do like it considering all the kids have their own fleshed out personalities. I know a Lupafag roams around here. If you're reading this; Hello! Anyways, in general, I stick to the K+ - T stuff. Happy or sad. Down to earth stories are my bread and butter.

There's not enough Diary of a Wimpy Kid, King of the Hill crossovers, or Ed Edd and Eddy crossovers
Also I hate massive crossovers, I wish there was a way to filter them out cause they clutter every time I search for crossovers
>>
>>153303886
more than that when i'm looking for a crossover it's really annoying when they did the same setting as the 'crossover' like Game of thrones and ASOIAF as the 2 crossover series, this is especially bad with series that have Web series/Manga/Anime like Youjo senki where you'll get a crossover that's just those 3 'settings'
>>
>>153303886
Massive crossovers always strike me as just too much. Too much to keep track of, too much to try and get to work together, too easy to get confusing.

I prefer to keep it to two or three settings at most. Keep it simple, stupid.
>>
>>153303886
When I don’t filter out crossovers I just exclude the biggest fandoms i don’t want to see a few times after doing the search and that thins out the megataggers

I'm reading something like a sequel of murder drones. It's honestly pretty well made for fanfic and resolves a lot of the plotholes and reintroduces a lot of the shit the MD used as a one off thing like magnets affecting drones, the clones that Cyn and J mentioned, JCJenson relevance and all sorts of difficult shit
>>
Like I said in the last one of these threads, it's far easier to just ignore and get over a straight up terrible or gross story, but when you come across something that actually has an interesting premise/concept and some interesting ideas to it but then you start reading it and it's plain just shittily written? That's way worse. That kind of thing makes me want to write my own story to fix their wasted premise.

I'm looking for any DC recommendations, and in return all I have to offer are a Pokemon and Digimon Adventure fic, but they're both some of the best fanfics I've found.
The Pokémon fic is "Traveler". Follows a heavily rewritten Ash who instead of receiving Pikachu from Oak, got a Nidoran M instead. It's sort of a reconstruction deal, everything is thought out and explained how dangerous some of the stuff is, but also how great things can be as well.
Like early on, Ash and his friends from Pallet are nearly killed by a Rocket Exec's Muk. After they're saved, they're back on the road in a day or two thanks to the amazing medicine available due to Pokémon.
The Digimon fic is "Dreaming to Reality". A Multi-part 02 fixfic, bringing in Ryo and Millenniumon and maybe more. Mainly focuses on Hikari and Ken, but not as a ship. Keeps the older kids relevant, even before they're all reunited with their partners, at least one of them is with the younger Chosen when they go to the Digital World. Adds one OC Chosen that's been handled really well so far.

As someone who used to build databases for profit, his idea of being exhaustive is great, but at some point, when you have hard and fast deadlines or don't have the unlimited slave labor (in my case, temp office coders) to help, especially if I have to spend a lot of time re-doing their shit), there's a limit to try to catalog everything.

A plan is a good idea. An ideal of what you should capture is a good idea, and then try to capture as much of that as you can. Doing it as you go along, ONCE you have that plan and outline, is better than trying to go back and recreate something you should have building from day one.

AI actually does this but can also do a half-ass job you then have to re-do.

I'm writing a fanfic about Kpop Demon Hunters about a trio of female hunters (pic related) who most likely lived her young productive years during the Japanese occupation and World War II.

After a brief career cut short by the war, one goes to the United States, another heads north to join the guerrillas, and the last one stays in the capital as a radio announcer working with the imperial government. The fic starts when they reunite one last time shortly after Japan’s surrender to stop a greater threat: an army of ultra-fanatical Japanese who would destroy the peninsula rather than surrender it, and a massive demon that has been lurking in the mountains, preying on the suffering of war. They plan to take care of both in one swing

Since the last thread, I've been working on the last chapter of the fanfic. it's gotten so long that I'm going to split it into another chapter. What I had planned as a three-part fanfic will end up being six.

Unfortunately, what I've noticed about KPDH is that the hype is slowly fading away. I've already moved on to other things myself. I've kept at it because I know I'll feel worse if I don't finish it.

Maybe? I can't for the life of me remember the name of the fic now and I can't seem to find it again, it's been so long since I read it.
The one where she has Aang as her Avatar spirit guide?
I fell off of it during the air temple chapter where Azula has the same Avatar-state reaction as Aang had to finding Gyatso's body, over being called a coward. Because at that point, it just felt like the author was trying to brute force Azula into doing the same things as Aang did.

Every time I try to write a capeshit fic it just feels like it's missing something. Superheroes are a visual genre, I want to mess with paneling and stuff, trying to express super powers with words is doable but also feels wrong. Like imagine having to describe Dr. Doom's latest freeze gun instead of having a Kirby-esque illustration of a washer sized contraption he's strapped to his chest

Too many distinct non-related fandoms [5+] means its going to be such a mess trying to fuse them together they should have made an original work at that point, or it's going to an utter bastardisation of the work.
SI|Reader|Your/Name is too related to self-masturbatory powerwank that I have no interest wading that particular sea of shit any more.
AUs like Modern|Harem|Human|etc. that are going to tell a story I have no interest in reading.

Podfic/chatfic are story formats I dislike. There's only one I liked and that's because I didn't read it on AO3, it was on geocities where the formatting could be taken to the max.
and recently Wiki Warrior and Celestial Forge and Jumpchain. Because I came here to read a story, not someone's dream-diary of how how hard they masturbated last night.

There’s an ASOIAF fic called RABBITKILLER where Arya gets saved at the Sept of Baelor by Barristan Selmy rather than Yoren. This leads to her going east with him rather than north. Really good fic.

There’s also Burn Them All, where Tywin is just a little later and Aerys manages to set off the wildfire beneath King’s Landing.

Just started my Terry x Inque fanfiction I’ve been workshopping. Working on some other fics too. A Ben 10 x MHA one that tries to organically fuse the alien stuff with that world and a Spider-Man one where Miles travels to 616 to spend Spring Break with Peter. That one’s mostly for fun desu

Honestly the worst part of writing on AO3 is the tagging system. Half the time I don’t know what to put so I’m just sitting there like “Fuckin’ uuuuuhhhhh angst I guess”

I actually have some dialogue for the Spider-Man one. Context is that Peter and Felicia are arguing about something (most likely stupid) and Miles is just on his phone

>Peter we are not arguing right now. Miles is right there and I don’t want to upset him
>Miles is not our son!
>I’m adopted?!
>Oh Miles! We were going to tell you (She runs to Miles and hugs him, mad dogging Peter)
>You guys are insane

I thought it would be funny if Felicia decided to play house to mess with Peter (and she’s actually a little into it) and Miles was going along cause he thinks it’s funny. Peter just wants to hang out with his friend and girlfriend and doesn’t have time for their nonsense (he thinks it’s a little funny)

Also a decent bit of reviewers i've noticed on Ao3 now. Say what you will about the annoying stuff on Ao3 it's pretty much strictly better than ff and always getting better while ff is fucking rotting with no admins at all, it's a miracle new categories even get added at all at this point.

This reminds me I went on a binge reading/watching DOAWK fanfics on yt (the voice over were awful i'd legit just pause the vid and seek through pages as the stories are usually posted on reddit page by page and are horrendous to read there).
They were a lot of good ones, and the effort to reuse art assets from the books was a nice touch.

I had been doing outlines for a bit, particularly for longer multichapter fics, but I stopped doing so, mostly cause i'm back to (long) oneshots.
Probably should go back to doing so, not even to really plot out the scenes entirely but more so to preserve certain elements. I've found I forget somethings I had wanted to add during a scene.

>DISCORUNE
>Instead of the Player, Kris gets the 24 Skills from Disco Elysium
Actually pretty good. Very slow, too. I think it took like 25 chapters to get through Card Kingdom, but I don't find that to be a bad thing: the way it spends time on so many of the "skippable" stuff, like eating breakfast with Toriel or having to be in class, is more bearable with the skills but also gives a lot more insight into what a weird little freak Kris is.
There's some alternate stuff, as well, and some Dark World worldbuilding (Dark Worldbuilding?). Being close to the fountain for prolonged periods of time makes you insane, Card Kingdom's other kings are more important, and the Jevil fight isn't actually a fight, but a performance by Jevil. My favourite moment from THAT part was an origami landing on Suzie's hand, then falling over and dying.

Remember around a year ago when we had scholastic squad threads because Amelia got storytimed? And we started discussing a potential fanfic about them, as well as other book/comic characters in a boarding school as a crossover fanfiction, with the final conflict being that they needed to grow up and confront them becoming adults? I still cant get it out of my head, because I read Amelia in a very bad time in my life, and despite me being an adult man, I still saw myself in her. I really want to write such a fic, but I have neither the time nor the skill nor the knowledge to write it.

Read this Psychonauts fanfic with Frazie called Later, Traitor Depths of Denouement. It's supposed to be a continuation of a story someone else wrote where she ran off to Whispering Rock instead of Raz called Later, Traitor which was pretty great so I'd recommend that too as it's kind of required reading for what I read (it added in some extra mental worlds for Dogen, Chloe, Clem, and others along with some extra OCs) but was never finished. So this gave me some closure after like 3 years of waiting for a new chapter for Later, Traitor.
Basically, after his tank is beaten, Oleander hits Frazie with a subliminal message chemical bomb that reveals to her that she's related to Maligula. She doesn't take this well, and Lili and Dogen have to enter her mind to calm her down before out of control newfound hydrrokinesis kills everybody.
Pretty breezy read with a lot of comics and pictures with good art, though the writing style takes a while to get used to since it'll be normal one moment and then suddenly start sounding like a green text when it's describing certain parts of Frazie's mental world.
The ending is also gloriously stupid. Never read anything that entertainingly dumb and elaborate. Poor Frazie.

From what I gather, it took to a point where prominent writers used burner emails to coordinate the direction of the big arcs, and other writers could know what to do in case someone bails without telling anyone their plans, which I think did happen a few times and other anons had end story arcs on their own.

I have not told a soul until now but for the last year I've had ideas for a furry cartoon crossover slash fic, not even a quick smut piece either, a romantic story of some decent length rattling around in my head. I'm intimidated by the idea of writing it for several reasons
>get partway in and burn out and have half-written furry crackship slash fan fiction sitting in my writing folder on my computer for years and years and then my family gets my computer after I die of cancer or something and they find it
>the opposite happens and I get it done in such a quick and easy fashion that I take a liking to it and it becomes "the thing" I write from now on, until I eventually pass away and my family finds numerous pieces of fur-slash-crack-fic-shit on my computer, raising even more questions
The biggest reason: I'm not gay myself (I think?!) and I don't read that sort of thing either. In fact I haven't even read much fan fiction of any kind for about fifteen years. I have no clue whether I should be venturing anywhere near that territory. Would it feel authentic at all, or phony? Earnest, or bogus? Can one even write something between two characters like this, which is so out of character for either of them, without compromising those characters so much that they might as well be different characters entirely? Or would it actually be okay, and I'm just making up problems for myself so I don't have to sit my cracker ass down and write this thing? The only thing that I know for a fact is that it's not something which anyone else, anywhere, would write. It's too specific and esoteric. I hate how smug that sounds but it is what it is. Whatever the case, this compulsion has been getting increasingly severe the last two or three months now and I fear that I may have to go through with it...

I sketched out a quaint little AU Chainsaw Man story based on this comic someone made of Denji and Nayuta going all the way to America to go to Disneyworld because they didn't know there was one in Japan where they have to trek across the USA to rendezvous with one of Kishibe's contacts who can smuggle them back to Japan. Along the way, they pick up this kid about Nayuta's age who's on the run from terrorists who is actually the Pestilence/Disease Devil. There'd be several state/city-specific misadventures and Devil encounters while they try to stay ahead of their pursuers (including an FBI agent who was fused with the Giraffe Devil to save her life) and keep the kid from accidentally causing epidemics.
Unfortunately, Part 2 of Chainsaw Man just kept getting worse and worse and it ultimately sapped my will to continue with it. What a shitty ending that manga had.

Do you think women hate male-made porn fiction as much as we hate theirs? It can't be, right? Ours actually has characters and stories and sex in it. Like if you look at the average "romance" novel targeted at females, it's much closer to male-made porn fiction, the only difference is that the story revolves around relationships more than the actual plot and the sex descriptions are corny as fuck (I've read a lot as as a pre-internet kid since the old lady librarian we had out our local library actually thought those were about romance).

Depends on better than what. If we're talking about commercial men-aimed smut vs female-aimed smut, I would probably agree. Commercial men-aimed pornographic fiction is not only extinct, it's also incredibly common denominator, probably due to being almost extinct and trying to get as wide as an audience as possible. Female-oriented smut is much more fun and plentiful as long as you actually pick a good author and not just whatever ultra-slop is popular at the moment, because then you'll end up with the cliche "a dominant superhunk trillionaire decided that my 5/10 ass is perfect for him to forcibly make his sex-slave/wife".

I don't think there's a significant difference between male-written smut and female-written

No shit, because it doesn't fucking exist. You can't have an actual animal of a goddamn man treat you like a princess. You are the fuckmeat. That is all you'll ever be. Holy shit.

This is like if we kept pretending like being nice to a girl will make her choose you in the end.

Well I do actually write most of my AUs like this! I have one where Hilda, instead of going back to her mum, stays in troll country for 10 years, and I do have other where Hiro, instead of participating on his friends and passed brother's graduation, a terrible event happens before that that changes Hiro completely where, soon after, he vanishes for about 2 years before coming back with no memories of said years away.

The Hilda one: /works/42061101

The Big Hero one: /works/74454581

I didn't finish them yet, mostly because I also am making an Avatar one (which is not a Canon Divergence but more like a Future thing (500 years after that Pavi avatar) and a She-ra one that goes similarly (the future thing), but it's more like "what happened after the defeat of Horde Prime.

Hilda is a fun series, the setting itself is decent but you'd think it'd have more crossovers as wel;
