Is it just me or did it not feel like the typical Disney cartoon? It always had a Cartoon Network vibe to me and I've wondered if I'm alone in feeling that. It felt like the most not Disney cartoon that Disney did at the time aside from Gargoyles, especially with how it got quite dark in later seasons.
>>
>>153307574
by at the time, I mean out of all the cartoons Disney had done up to 2004, including even the ones from 2 decades prior. This was before Disney bought out Marvel and Star Wars, so it felt surreal seeing this show as a Disney cartoon. It feels like the type of show that would've aired alongside Teen Titans and Code Lyoko.
>>
>>153307574
I'm quite sure this aired on Jetix or however the channel was called before that.
It is now a Disney property because of the acquisition, just like the Simpsons.
>>
>>153307574
That actually has me wondering, how did Gargoyles become a Disney cartoon? I mean, I love it, but it felt so different from all the other Disney cartoons. While it still had humor and some playfulness, it took itself a lot more seriously compared to all the other Disney cartoons before it and many after. Gargoyles felt more like something Fox Kids would air alongside Batman and X-Men than something Disney would air.
>>
>>153307574
It felt very serious. I really liked the show, but the main character was a faggot.
>>
>>153307574
They had to make it NOT Disney-ish because they had to air it in between Power Rangers, Digimon and reruns of Spider-Man after spending 3 Billion Dollars for one cable network.
>>
Why did this show have so much vore?
>>
>>153307647
I've heard Disney specifically greenlit Gargoyles to compete with Batman.
>>
>>153307574
Most everyone who's already replied already pointed out the obvious, but it's worth asking, does KP feel the part of a Disney cartoon? Alot of turn of the millenium DTVA output seems to fall in two camps. Disney IP (Quack Pack, Mighty Ducks, the various animated series continuations of hit movies) or timely original works. Robot Monkey would fall into the latter just as Gargoyles and KP did before it.
>>153307647
>>153308276
Not to mention TMNT or Xmen TAS. It's easy to forget how genuinely competitive certain creative fields once were. We've been left with gruel for so long we've forgotten how good real food was.

You'd never imagine as much nowadays but DTVA was once incredibly adept at making action cartoons.
>>
>>153308404
Kim Possible always felt like a Disney cartoon to me. There were quite a number of turn of the millennium cartoons that were timely original works like Recess, Pepper Ann, Weekenders, etc.
>>
>>153310331
Pepper Ann, Recess, Lloyd In Space, Teacher's Pet, etc all feel more distinctly disney than KP ever did. Possible felt like the sort of action show Nick or CN would have cooked up IMO.
>>
>>153307574
>disney+ lists this under anime
>>
>>153310881
>disney is retarded
in other news, water is wet
>>
>>153310881
It’s kinda like Teen Titans in that regard
>>
>>153307574
It's just you.
>>
>>153307574
It was more anime-inspired, for one.
>>
>>153307574
It aired on Jetix and Toon Disney, so OF COURSE it wouldn't feel as girly as most Disney Channel cartoons from that era.
>>
>>153310759
What exactly made KP feel more like something Nick or CN would make? Disney made plenty of those type of comical action toons prior like Darkwing, Buzz Lightyear, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, etc. Kim Possible actually gave me kind of a Buzz Lightyear of Star Command vibe, probably only because the creators of KP developed Buzz. Plus, Kim had the slice of life sitcom stuff that the other Disney shows like Proud Family, Even Stevens and Lizzie had.
>>
>>153310881
Honestly, it's closer to an anime than Avatar and Teen Titans ever were. It was animated in Japan and it was even storyboarded in japan. Avatar and Teen Titans meanwhile had their storyboarding done in america.
>>
>>153307574
IIRC, the guy who made it pitched it to CN and Nick, the former of which passed it down due to having PPG, Samurai Jack, and Toonami at the time and the latter expressed interest but passed it down due to 9/11. It was still amazing that Disney picked it up even if it was for a block made of half of the ashes of Fox Kids.

Really fun show, if not shockingly dark. Kind of hope someone at Disney will be smart enough to bring it back for it's deserves conclusion, be it a fifth season or movie.

Come on, why would you say that about Chiro?

Not even 50 posts in and we're already at the:

Don't take this the wrong way, but Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! might be the most 2000s thing I've ever seen in a TV cartoon, right down to the type of anime influence Gen Xers pulled from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcBDQafL8jw

I love how self-indulgent this shit was
>>
>>153320345
It fit in perfectly with the 2000s era of anime-inspired cartoons and I loved how it was inspired by 60s and 70s anime.
>>
>>153318585
I'm not going that far. All I'm saying is that it feels more anime-esque than Avatar and Teen Titans ever were. Avatar doesn't even have a theme song. It just has a narration and nothing else for its intro. Monkey Team also had a more Japanese look to its art style and animation when compared to Teen Titans and Avatar thanks to it being animated and boarded in Japan. Avatar felt more Asian inspired than just japanese-inspired.
>>
>>153310881
Prove it's not.

>Live through Megas XLR all the way upto Motorcity
>Watch the world strip away opportunities for Chris and his peers
>All that's remained since is fucking jiggling keys and fagshit
I almost lament witnessing it all at this point. We were rocketing to higher highs than ever before, and as quickly as it started it ended. Did you end up seeing Agent Elvis? Good god what a heinous waste of potential that was. As an action cartoon it could have been incredible. Unfortunately they tried making it into Archer 1.5.
>>
>>153320771
Avatar and Teen Titans were both visually inspired by FLCL specifically weirdly, which was basically its own unique thing at the time both of those shows premiered (Diebuster didn't even start to release until 2004). SRMTHFG in comparison feels much more inspired by anime in general from the 50s to 70s.
>>
I wonder how the fuck they got Corey Feldman to do this show.

Foolish of you to think an adult cartoon should be anything but a comedy above all else, even though history has shown it's possible to do a sincere action-adventure series with comedic elements sprinkled throughout.

Cropped, unfortunately. Widescreen is at least on Youtube but it's got annoying Disney XD bugs in the corner.
